A salesman came and told us that we could pay off our 25 year solar loan in 8 years if we put all incentives back into the loan. This was the first untruth. We have to put all incentives (federal, state, etc.) plus make an additional $100 monthly payment, to pay off the loan in 11 years. Also, the biggest issue is that the salesman said that we would only have a BGE bill a few times per year (during the colder months) of about $50 per bill based on the usage that he saw on our BGE bills. This was HORRIBLY inaccurate. We have had 2 bills of $9.43, but to date (since April of 2024), we have paid more than $1300 to BGE, plus the monthly loan payment. It should be noted that we have lowered our thermostat, and for two weeks at the end of October/early November, no one was home during the day. When we pointed out that the bills were not what we were told, a man at the company said that he would look at adding four additional panels free of charge, but he wanted us to wait a year. In the mean time, the high bills continued. He came to our house and performed an energy assessment and changed a setting in our hot water heater; everything else was fine. I insisted on the panels but two were defective; they replaced them. Even with the two additional panels, our most recent BGE bill is almost $500. I have repeatedly reached out to them for help to try to get what was promised, but they have refused to make any of this right. read more

We called American Design and Build to see if they could provide an estimate to repair it. They came out and took care of it without charging us. I would use them again. read more

Stay away from this company!! Stay far, far away. Joe Tunney is sarcastic and useless- and he is the owner! This company ruined my impatiens, broke a bush in half and ruined all the hastas. Also, the rep, Tom, and the PM, Sal, were completely MIA after contract was signed and money changed hands. Sal refused to find out why the job was taking so long and when they'd be finished until I escalated it. Turns out they took 2 people off our TH job to go to a larger home. 12 hours to do this roof! All other neighbors who replaced their roof recently took half a day. Chris, who works there- not sure what he does- said that on page 2 of the contract it says to REMOVE bushes before work starts!! The sales process leaves a lot to be desired. Lois J below gets it right - like buying a used car from a shady dealer. We finally got to a reasonable (if a tad high) price but it shouldn't be a struggle to get there. They need to re-evaluate their tactics. The installation was very professional. The clean up was very unprofessional. Nails and materials all over the place. Damage to shrubs. A month later and I'm still finding stuff. American Design and Build asks for feedback through a third party. The problem is that they can't accept any feedback that suggests they have room for improvement. Overpriced offer at 35k for solar installation for my house, which their sales person presented to me as and extremely competitive price that was too good to be true and high pressure to sign the contract. I did, fortunately there is a legal period to cancel..Because i did research and not only was ASS/ADB unable to answer my questions to my satisfaction, but two other companies in my area gave me quotes at 22k for the same size system but with better panels and better warranties. This is a two-star review for American Sentry Solar's customer assistance and in-person sales consultation only. We did not choose this solar company and here is why: Cons -- *Cost -- we are still in the process of vetting several solar companies and American Sentry has been by far the most expensive quote for us. Almost double what we've been quoted by others (and this is with at least one other company quoting with More panels). If price is important to you, Shop Around. *Pushy sales pt. 1 -- our rep was an old-school salesman who used various techniques to try and lock us in to a contract That Day. Also prior to our meeting they contacted me by phone, text, and email to verify the appointment. If you like this kind of attention, by all means. If you like a more relaxed approach, Shop Around. *Long Meeting (Pushy sales pt. 2) -- the salesman took 2 hours for his pitch b/cs I believe he wanted a notch in his belt that day, even after we said we weren't signing anything our first meeting and were still doing research. *Gendered language -- when making my appointment the rep asked if "my husband" were to join us, and during the consultation the rep mentioned several times "their men/their guys" doing the work. 1.) Some may think this is frivolous, but gendered language tells so much about a company's views. What if I were a single, divorced, or unmarried woman? What if I were a lesbian? Asking for "my husband" to be there was off-putting and should have been a red flag at the start. At least three other companies did not ask about my status or partner, and one other asked about "any other names on the deed" -- a much better way to inquire about a partner. & 2.) One of the Am. Sentry reps I spoke with was a woman, so why the salesman wanted to only credit "their men" was weird. Pros -- *US made panels. Salesman will show you a video of how durable they are to hail, getting run over by vehicles, etc. *Maryland-based business. You'd be supporting a local business vs. a nationwide dealer. *They install roofs, too, if you need that. *Quick appointment made for consultation; not long wait. * Salesman was punctual. If you are looking into solar, Consumer Reports stated that shopping around will save you $$. I believe it, plus you will get a lot of product information from the different reps. The way they answer will tell volumes of how they operate. It is a time investment, but worth the information. Good luck! read more

We set up an appointment for a quote 2 weeks ago. Was really looking forward to seeing them to compare to the first quote we got and make a decision quickly. The appointment was confirmed two days ago. Got a call 2 hours before the appointment that they weren't coming, we aren't in their service area. The guy that set up the appointment knew exactly where we were-he went to school in the area. Note: We are well inside the service area according to the map on their Yelp page. Smacks of unprofessionalism, if not outright bias because we are 1/2 block inside the city line. Disappointing, to say the least. Very disappointed in the scheduling process. When appointment for estimate to replace three windows was made the rep tried topressure me into committing my husband be there as well. I explained that he could not, that he didn't want to be, and that I was making all the decisions on home repairs. The rep finally agreed to set up the appointment for a Tuesday, 2:00 pm. Between the appointment setting and the day of the appointment American Design&Build made four more calls under the pretense of "making sure they had the correct information" but ended up each time trying to pressure me into commiting my husband be present. I insisted he would not be and each time they still said they'd be here for the scheduled estimate. The day of the appointment, Kevin from AD&B called me to "confirm" the information only to end up pressuring me again to have my husband there. When I again said he could not and would not EVER be there to hear about windows, he confirmed that he'd be here at two. At 1:10 I received a text from Kevin cancelling the appointment because my husband would not be there. Unacceptable, deceitful and inconsiderate does not even begin to describe my experience with this company. read more

We had custom doors installed for our front door and deck door. Our salesman Tom Arno listened to our needs and helped us select a custom French door with a built-in doggy door that replaced an aged and poorly functioning slide door. When installing the new front door, the installation crew found rotting under the existing frame that they showed me and insisted they could and would remedy before putting the new door in. They got the needed supplies and stayed late to get it ready for the door. They did not charge me for these additional supplies. The new doors are very attractive and much higher quality than those available at local hardware stores. And the kitchen feels much warmer with the new French doors. We are very happy with our purchase and will use them again in the future. read more

We needed a new roof and were thinking about getting a new roof. We mentioned that, and they sent someone out to give us an estimate. When they got here, we were told they don't do metal roofs (bait and switch). We let him measure for a shingle roof. He talked some numbers, which we thought were high but we didn't know what a new roof would cost. He seemed like he really wanted us to schedule the installation of the new roof but we wanted time to think about it. high pressure 2 hour appointment and extremely high price. variable pricing based on when contract signed. one price if we signed immediatley, another price within 30 days and another if signed within a year. when we said we had to think about it, salesman said if he reduced the price to sign immediatley by $4000 + dollars would we sign immediatley. the answer was no and never. how much padding in the price if he could knock over $4,000 of $24,000+ price? it was like buying a used car from a shadey dealer. read more

American Design and Build has installed a new roof, replacement windows, new exterior doors and insulated vinyl siding on my house. All these products installed in my home are designed to last a long time so the item does not need to be replaced as frequently as lower cost alternatives. For example, I had insulated steel exterior doors installed over ten years ago and the doors still look brand new. I found they also provide an exceptional warranty service for every product they install. For example, after ten years, they promptly replaced the worn rubber gaskets on my doors at no charge to me. In the end you get exactly what you paid for. A low cost product with a very limited or no service contract means you purchased a low quality product that the company that installed the product will not stand behind. Any warranty on an item installed on the exterior of your home without free service is worthless. read more
