I am a longtime blood donor. I have been giving on a regular basis for roughly 8 years and have…read moregiven over 2 gallons of blood over that time. I take pride in it. I see it as a duty, something that is required of me as a citizen of the world. If I don't give blood, someone out there could die. A single donation of whole blood (when they take a full pint of blood) saves up to 3 lives! Currently, only 3 out of 100 people in the USA give blood. When the American Red Cross calls me up to try and get my blood (almost like a Twilight novel) they will ask about 3 or 4 blood drives coming up in my area and see if I can visit them. Often, those drives fall on days I am unavailable or where it would be unsafe for me to donate (like before a night when you plan on having multiple alcoholic beverages because the effects of alcohol are compounded after blood donation). That is where this place comes in to the picture. This is a blood donation facility. They are open 3 days a week with the hours listed. Open Monday 1-7pm Thursday 1-7pm Saturday 8am-1pm This means that you have a higher chance of being available to donate at this center than at one of the blood drives. It really is a great opportunity. As for the donation experience itself? Very much the same as a blood drive. No difference for me except that they didn't have a line and my blood donation took roughly half the time of other donations. If you are curious about donating blood you can go to www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS Please know that I am not employed by the Red Cross, I am simply a donor.

Each class you will do a variety of blood draws, finger sticks, and injections, not on an orange or rubber arm.. nope on each other or the instructors (fully under their supervision at all times!!). You will be confident walking out of there that you can properly locate and draw blood the proper way without hurting anyone or digging for the vein (we've all had those). David instructs in detail the fundamentals of a medical office, client care, the process of lab blood work, the tubes, HIPAA,CPR,EKG,.. and so much more. I never thought at my age of late 30s I could wrap my head around new material or even pronunciation of medical words. David really helps break those barriers down, he has many concepts of ways to help you remember things like how the blood flows through the heart, veins, what their functions are and why, lab concepts of procedures and additives for each tube. I looked at many options when I knew, as an Esthetician, I wanted to cross over to the medical side. I'm so glad I made the drive to this establishment, I live in Cincy so every weekend I drove 1.5 hrs both ways, some times I stayed sometimes I drove back, so dedication is an understatement. It was my home for 10 weeks on Sat/Sun. I made the drive because I wanted hands on and let's be honest Quick turn around so I could move forward... The doctor had her re-do all her tests that she already did at another hospital. The previous hospital was only going to give her a lumpectomy, but the doctor at the James saw a higher risk of the cancer returning so he recommended a mastectomy. Whether or not it was an overkill, we're not sure, but we feel much more at ease. On the day of the surgery all the nurses and doctors were very patient and friendly, despite that it was 6 in the morning. The doctors and nurses looked into my mom's eyes and held her hand every time they spoke to her. Her English isn't very good, so they spoke very slowly and clearly to her (I couldn't be the translator because I'm a family member). They had one of those machines with a remote translated which helped a lot. My biggest fear was my mom feeling lots of pain after leaving the hospital. To my surprised, she did not feel any pain or discomfort in the days following the procedure! It's such a relief. I have gained much respect for the doctors at this hospital and highly recommend them.
