The bar is in the basement, and there is a strong damp smell as you walk in, which is soon forgotten once you're inside, until the next morning when you smell your hair and clothes. It's not a 5 star place, but then again I don't think it's trying to be. It's just a super relaxed pool bar.

Unfortunately the way to who approached me then belittled me into my lack of German language skills and then had a conversation in German (I can read, right, understand German but I cannot speak German) with the occupants of a table directly opposite my table. During that conversation he said that he 'refused to speak English to someone who doesn't speak German'. He then made remarks about My being 'a foreigner and that this is Germany and you must speak German in Germany' He then came back to my table and wiped it down and spoke to me in English and when I pointed out to him that he spoke English he then said to me "only if I like the people I'm speaking to". The racist remarks he made and the belittling of me in a conversation with complete strangers about my language skills is entirely inappropriate and to my understanding (I have my PhD in European tax law and my PhD in German human rights law) completely unlawful. The food was okay but nothing to write home about however even of the food was magnificent the service was absolutely appalling!!!!!! The young man should not be working in service; unfortunately for the owner of this establishment I am a senior officer at TripAdvisor and as a result of my experience here I will be speaking with our staff about how we promote this restaurant. I don't think we want anyone subjected to this kind of racist abuse!!!

I know I looked terrible but they welcomed me in, explained any menu item I was unsure of and stayed patient as I weighed my options. Since I wasn't terribly hungry, I only ordered the sweet potato fries but the restaurant smelled delightful so I'm sure the rest of their food had to be the cause of that. There were several jars of bottle caps throughout the dining room. One gentleman was explaining a game that could be played with them and allowed me to bring a few home for a friends collection. Honestly, a pleasant experience and I didn't feel out of place as a sweaty American. Luckily, the smell of food in the restaurant outweighed my gym stench!

I had a burger (which was completely made with products you can by from any random supermarket... dry bun, frozen pattys etc...) and my friend had a mixed bbq plate with a variation of steaks that were grilled pretty impressively on an open fireplace in the restaurant but all were dry as God knows what and did not taste either. The service was nice and friendly but I'm afraid to say that the food and decoration as well as atmosphere of the place were awful. :-(
