The complete antithesis to the pink-themed champagne bars, thankfully. The technicians themselves work wonders with their varnishes and adhesive flowers although I decided to go for a plain manicure. They've even been kind enough to devote two people to filing and applying my nails so that I can squeeze an in-fill appointment into my lunch break I feel like a princess! They shape the nails themselves and are also very talented at a variety of hand-applied nail art. Their prices are reasonable and I never feel it's too much of a chore to go, which is saying something seeing as I have the attention span of a flea and get bored easily. I usually book appointments and then chicken out at the last minute. I have been back to this place twice now, so that's saying something! The girl who did my wax was chirpy, competent and above all QUICK! Her name is Rene and she is definitely the best waxer I've ever been to. Whats even more incredibly Eighties is the image of a woman with bleach blond bouffant hair in the window! I am usually sort of a fan of this outdated tacky stuff, but this is just too much. Brighton Nails (such imagination!) is only slightly less outdated on the inside. It doesn't really matter as it doesn't affect the service they offer- they are the friendliest ladies and they know how to do a good manicure. What is lost in atmosphere and attractive decor is certainly made-up for in reasonable prices! All the usual treats are on offer: manicures, pedicures, silks and acrylic extensions. Like the other nail salons in the area, they offer an extensive array of air brush nail designs- not my cup of tea, but if it's yours Brighton Nails looks like as good a place as any! Although this place looks less than appealing from the outside, you'll get much better value for money than at one of the poncy beauty salons in town.

Booking online was straight forward and easy. At the time of the appointment, I was warmly greeted by staff upon arrival and was offered a refreshment and slippers. Within 10 minutes, I was then taken up to my room and my treatment schedule was explained. I went into the infrared sauna which was a bit challenging but so refreshing once finished. My massage was two words: simply amazing. My masseur was great with the amount of pressure towards my stress points and really made me feel like it wasn't a rushed session. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, with just the right level of chat. I chose my colour from the selection of Opi polishes and the lady set to work on my hands first. I was pleased with the shape and the painting of my nails, something that can sometimes be a little hit and miss. For the pedicure I was placed in the most amazing massage chair. Not the type I have experienced before that just gently vibrates. This was was like receiving a proper massage, I almost fell asleep! Again, the pedicure was great, the dry skin scraped away from my feet by a cheese grater-like instrument! My only complaint would be that the cuticle removal was quite painful on both my fingers and toes. I was offered drinks while I waited and there were plenty of magazines to peruse. This is the place to go for all manner of nail extension, embellishment and design. My experience is limited to a plain old understated manicure, but some of the women around me were acquiring full on talons! The woman who did my nails was very fast and efficient...possibly a little too speedy actually, I like to languish in the rare treat of having someone faff about with my nails and make them look pretty! But its a serious operation they've got going down there...it gets busy and you can be in and out of your chair before you know it! Obviously if you're having a full set of silks or acrylics the process will be more lengthy. They do refills too, naturally. Like all respectable nail salons, there are endless intricate design possibilities- mostly achieved using airbrush and stencils...whether you fancy flowers, lettering or a simple pattern, they'll cater to your every artistic whim. It's a good idea to know exactly what you want, as I'm pretty terrible at making decisions at the best of times and change my nail varnish every few days! So it was a little awkward, being handed an array of colours to choose from and not having a clue where to begin! The lady was a little impatient and really wanted to get on with the manicure. She did try to help narrow the choices for me, but you could tell that she wasn't impressed. We finally went for a light nudey pink with a little shimmer to it. The lady having her nails done next to me was so warm and lovely, and clearly a regular. Apparently, the glitters and shimmery ones last longer on the nails. Nothing was explained, but I followed the minimal instructions given. I think this was mainly due to the limited English. The lady certainly knew what she was doing and rigorously attacked my cuticles with precision and skill. This was painless and the end result was fantastic, this being the part that I am a bit rubbish at and nervous to do myself! Having my nails done is a bit of a treat for me and not something I treat myself to very often. If you're looking for a pampering, girly experience out of Legally Blonde, I'd suggest going elsewhere. However, if you're looking for a speedy service with a great end result, don't fancy making painful chit chat and can put up with that overpowering acrylic nail smell, then give this place a go! You'll need to pop to a cash machine beforehand as they don't except cards, but there is a machine conveniently placed just a few doors down if you were to find yourself without.
