    Fresh textures from Kelly ‍‍
    Tricia T.

I know I say this every time, but today I definitely got my favorite cut so far! I had to book with Kelly about 4 weeks in advance but it's so worth the wait. She is a wizard with curls and textures. If you need someone to take your wavy-ish curls and make them shine to their full glory, Kelly is the stylist you need in your life. I love coming here. I moved to a different neighborhood and now it's a 35 minute walk -- past, I am sure, tons of other stylists -- but it's so worth it.

Teased by Brent into a soft 70s shag. BRB going to the roller disco now

I got a curly 70s/80s shag haircut with Brent last week and I love it! I was pretty nervous because I was always told that I couldn't have bangs or short layers because of my curls. Brent reassured me that my hair was perfect for this cut, and he was right! He first dry cut my curly hair (if you're curly, I recommend coming to the salon already washed and styled so they can see it in its natural shape and dry cut it), then he softened the layers near my face with a brush so that I could see what it would look like in a softer 70s style. He explained that if I wanted to go with an 80s shag, all I had to do was wear my hair natural and curly. It was a combination hair 'n' history lesson! Anyway, I'm so grateful to Brent--the cut he gave me is extremely low maintenance. It looks great, even after I first wake up (wearing my silk bonnet helps though)! I thought bangs would be a pain in the butt, but his cut made them effortless. If you have curly hair or want a shag style, I highly recommend Brent! He also has curly hair, though it's short now, so he really understands how it works. I used to only get Deva cuts, and those (mostly straight-haired) stylists would always spout off the same tired advice from their trainings that I already knew. In contrast, Brent gave me new, unique styling tips and took his time to show me different ways I could wear the style. He's also super nice and fun to talk to, so it was just an all around groovy experience!

Scarlett is incredible! I went in nervously for a color correction- I will add the before and after photos. I hadn't gotten my hair professionally cut or colored in years and was very nervous, she eased all of my anxieties with gentle technique and comfortable conversation. She is amazing at what she does, I highly recommend. 10000000/10. Thank you Scarlett!!!!

    Back to blonde!

Brooke was my go to girl for my new do and I couldn't be happier! She told me from dark and limp, to light and voluminous! My hair has never looked better! Highly recommend!

First off, the place feels big. Has nice calming music playing in the background so it's a pleasant experience visiting and even sitting in the chair for some time. The wash was about the same length of time as a wash from other places here in Chinatown, but somehow it was significantly more enjoyable. The people here know what they're doing, and my scalp feels much better than it did before, and I didn't even know if was feeling anything before. Cut was ~30 minutes, and $28 + tip. Overall, it's on the pricier end of what I've experienced so far in Chinatown, although not by much. However, the quality of the cut was much better than others. In other places, it feels a bit more rushed or cursory, but I felt like I was getting focused attention on my cut. He spent a lot of it actually in touch up and layering, which was good attention to detail. Honestly one of the best cuts I've gotten in Chinatown. Definitely beats out in quality over other mainstays like Kevin's, but at a slightly higher price point.

Also, since it's a small salon, it's not expensive (although I gave a big tip because of COVID--and to support a female small business owner of color during pandemic!). If you are on the fence, I'd go (call first). Alyssa also does much fancier coloring jobs, and I might try one in the future. She seems like the right person to take a risk with. I went to this hair salon in university city for a trim, and I felt that the stylist was knowledgeable about curly/wavy coarse hair. I was a little worried about going to a salon in China town because often the hair type that they see often is smoother / softer which I don't have. But my hair is looking a lot healthier, and they didn't take off too much of my length! The only issue I had was that it took a little longer than I would have liked and I was being switched between two people repeatedly. I've experienced having a different person the was my hair, another to cut my hair, and another to style my hair but I had 2 different people style my hair, probably because it started to get crowded. I wish the entire visit was only an hour but it was closer to 2.5 hours, and other people in the salon were beginning to complain about the wait. My friend also got his hair cut and said he liked the cut, but he was done in about 45 minutes, where usually his cuts take about 30 minutes, then he had to wait for me to be done as well. I will definitely be going back here but I'll be sure to go on a day that I know I have more time. My hair feels super healthy and nicely cut.

She smiled and agreed, and started cutting. In no time at all, she had cut the hair on one side of my head above my ear, which was the opposite of what I asked for, as I have a deformed right ear from decades of combat sports competition, and I wanted it concealed. As she had already ruined my hair on one side, I bit my tongue as she made the other side match it. I was absolutely furious, but what can a stylist do once they've taken too much off? Absolutely nothing. Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" [Edit, I called the place and she offered me a refund, but this doesn't undo the damage she did to my personal appearance. I'll take the refund, but this review stands.] I grew the sides of my hair longer specifically to hide that ear, and the stylist decided that she knew better than me where my haircut was concerned, and forced her personal preferences onto my head. That stylist is very fortunate that I have superior control over my temper, because she has left me feeling disfigured with the haircut she gave me, and now that I'm home and trying to style this mess, I see that she couldn't even manage to trim my bangs straight, and the hair on one side is not symmetrical with the hair on the other side. With the mess she left me with, with my deformed ear exposed, I might just shave my head instead of putting up with this terrible thing she did to my head. I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. Attached to this review, you'll see two photos detailing how she couldn't even manage to cut my hair evenly. I could have gotten a better cut from a landscaper with a weed-whacker. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.

I came in on a Monday around lunch time and they weren't busy at all. Since it was our first time there, we didn't have a stylist in mind. They sat us down quickly and David was the one that helped my husband with his haircut. He is very knowledgeable about Asian hair types as he trained in Tokyo for 6 years. If you show him a photo, he will be sure to match the style you requested through the photo. He will constantly show you what the back looks like through a mirror to ensure that you're satisfied with the results. David is really a perfectionist and he even told me that he's always open to criticism, so if you're unhappy with something, just communicate with him and he will be sure to make it right. There might be a language barrier if you don't speak Chinese but I think a translation app would work just fine. My husband got a Korean style two block haircut and I have to admit it's one of the best haircuts that he has ever gotten! The longer layers in the back blended seamlessly with the shorter portion on the back of his head. My husband is traumatized from getting haircuts because oftentimes you pay a lot for a haircut that you don't even end up liking, but he's glad that he finally found a spot that he will be returning to. For wash and haircut, the price is $28, but they were running a promotion at the time so it ended up costing $23.
