I actually believe my first time to the Center was for the Yelp 500 two or three years ago and since then I've been for art shows, film screenings, meetings or just to marvel at their tremendous parking lot gardens and chickens. There's something so raw and edgy that makes Big Car a perfect fit for its surroundings. Nestled between all of my favorite ethnic eateries and stores, the building and staff is very in tune with what is going on in Lafayette and tapping in to the diverse audience of the area. I would have to say my favorite part about the Service Center is the simple fact that it once served as a car repair shop but is now filled with Sun King beer, a screening room, and a calendar packed with classes and events for all ages. Can't wait to see what comes next for this creative powerhouse.

(The last time I visited, it was a tire center, lol) I was pleasantly surprised by what Big Car had done with the place. I had the opportunity to participate in the Digital Disconnect event where you surrender your mobile devices for an evening of good old fashioned fun. Think board games, letter writing, and live music. Of course, I panicked when I realized that I wanted to tweet about the event and my cell phone was nowhere to be found. But, wow. How refreshing to remember life before being connected to EVERYONE 24 hours a day. Kudos to Big Car on a great event and on re-purposing an unused building on the NW side. I'm looking forward to returning soon and often.

The portions are decently sized that you realistically could have two meals from one dinner. Adult beverages are also affordable. A 12 oz beer and spirit (Johnny Walker Red) only cost me $7.95. A jukebox is available to play all of the latest hits as well as some hits from the early 2000s down to the 60s. The crowd is usually mid-40 and up but you will find some younger members there too. In the summer, you can even hang out back and socialize as well as eat/drink and listen to music. Security is present to keep away riff raff and causing problems will surely have you more embarrassed.

There's no question here and the bartenders are the key there are many great and wonderful bartenders in the American Legion but it's like anything anywhere at any time you're gonna have some bad eggs so don't look at one person or one bartender and think that that is post 64 because they have a lot of great people and a lot of great things to offer and again it's the American Legion the support all of us fighting veterans in the past present and definitely for the future. It was scary ( way out of my comfort zone ) and fun taking to people about cemeteries and symbols used on memorials.

Originally known as the Post Theatre, this building was originally built in 1929. It's actually the…read moreonly original Fort Benjamin Harrison building still being used for its original purpose - as a venue for movies and entertainment. While previously it served the military here, the fort itself is long gone and the building now falls under the non-profit umbrella of Arts for Lawrence. Arts for Lawrence acquired the building in 2016 and began some pretty significant renovations including new technologies, film capabilities, cosmetic upgrades, and a building addition. The building can be used for both movies and stage performances and is actively used for both. Indy-based Heartland Film recently moved into the Fort Ben area (in the Sterrett Center) and often utilizes this theater including for its current holiday movie series. Accessibility has greatly improved under Arts for Lawrence (fantastic non-profit), though there are obviously limits given the age of the building. As a general rule, attending events here should be no problem for those, like myself, with mobility issues. There's parking right across from the building. I'm not sure about the seating capacity here, though it's a relatively intimate setting with probably no more than a couple hundred seats. The theatre itself is close to several nearby restaurants and it's easy to make attending an event here a date night. Fort Harrison State Park is also less than five minutes away!

The seats would be my only complaint, but if we had been here before we would have known to bring a cushion or something because these wooden bleachers are killing my ass. The food and drinks, pizza, burgers, hotdogs, pretzels, nachos, snow cones, and of course lots of alcohol. Their are people smoking in the stands, cigarettes and other things, couple of times the smoke was a little overwhelming, maybe would've had to change seat if we had brought the kids. The parking is free, and not too long of a walk to the entrance, and I was parked all the way at the rear of the lot. Definitely would recommend.
