I have to say, the pictures did a little more justice. Called to make reservation and was greeted by the sweetest, nicest most helpful lady. If I recall her name was Denise. Reservations were easy and this place was dog friendly so this was the reason we chose this hotel. $25 non refundable pet fee which seemed fair. When we arrived there was nobody at check in so waited 15 min. Not a biggie. Rooms: Two full size beds? They didn't feel like Queens. Microwave Flatscreen Small Fridge Cleanliness- well...... It didn't feel that clean at all. The desks etc all felt sticky. I brought my own Clorox wipes. Bathroom had bugs and something disgusting in the door frame. TP was almost out. Both rolls were just about empty with no spares. No Kleenex Towels- not all of them were taken and replaced even though they were dirty. Carpet was dirty and was coming up by the outside door. Nice outdoor access if you have a pet, but there was a lot of garbage laying around, cigarette butts, dog poo, etc. The pool area was unbearably hot and not the cleanest. The sign says "with a resort like feel" not the ones I have been to. It was okay for the stay, but for the price it was a little overpriced compared to where we have stayed for less. The views are great. Beach area is not well kept. My son could not get enough of the hammocks, even though they were quite dirty, but he loved it.

Pretty noisy and many of the rooms are wonky and deficient and poorly renovated. Some (only some) of the staff couldnt care less

I saw the most beautiful sunset over Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands from the patio.

Slice of wedding heaven…read more My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at Chippewa Retreat Resort this June. The title of this post came from many of our guests declaring Chippewa Retreat Resort "a little slice of heaven." Every expectation we had going into our wedding weekend was blown away by how fabulous the entire experience was. The staff at Chippewa Retreat redefined accommodating. The owner was present throughout the weekend and was clearly committed to making everyone's experience a positive one. The resort staff was extremely friendly. They were always ready and willing to help with even the smallest detail. Franny, the events coordinator was a good as it gets. She made almost every request we had a reality. She helped brainstorm fun ideas, communicated regularly and promptly, always maintained a professional yet happy demeanor and was extremely fair through the entire process. The location of the resort cannot be beat. The cabins are beautifully decorated, comfortable and come with amazing views of the lake. The resort itself is centered around a beautiful pool, which served as a perfect meeting ground for all of our friends and family. The resort grounds are meticulously maintained with flowers everywhere. The day of the wedding was a truly a dream come true. Franny and the rest of the Chippewa Resort staff helped decorate the reception hall and ceremony area exactly the way I had imagined it. They provided all the necessary sound equipment for the ceremony, set up the chairs and helped make sure everything was set to go. Everything went off smoothly and I was able to take the entire day in and enjoy every moment knowing the staff had everything under control. The reception was held in the resort's newly built restaurant. We didn't have to do much decorating because the restaurant area is gorgeous as is. Our guests raved about the dinner, saying it was the best wedding food they had ever had, some said it was the best FOOD they had ever had. We stayed on Sunday and ate at the restaurant because we loved it so much. Putting all the pieces of the wedding puzzle together can be a lot of work, however I truly enjoyed the entire process working with Franny and the rest of the Chippewa Resort crew. They were dedicated to making our experience one we would cherish for a long time to come. I must agree with our guests, we found our slice of wedding heaven at Chippewa Retreat Resort.

"Hello, Heartwood? I would like to make reservations for your Mother's Day Brunch for 9:00 a.m."…read more "How many will be in your party?" "Just me. My husband passed away in January." We went on, the two of us, talking pleasantries a bit more, stranger to stranger. I promised I would be there at 9:00 and hung up. The next morning, I was there on time and was greeted by the young woman who recognized my name. "We talked last night. You are our guest today. No charge." Stephanie said. I was dumbfounded and realized that she saw within me something I didn't realize I had revealed--that I needed to be pampered, that I was vulnerable, that I was tired, that I was worried, that I hurt. I had never alluded to any of that over the phone, but she knew. The staff regularly checked on me, the owner especially making certain I was fine, and I was. The brunch was amazing, filled with luscious entrees, a far cry from the normal Northwoods pizza-hamburger venues. I was also able to enjoy watching the young parents with their children, lining up for their eggs and shrimp and everything delightful. I am home now and soon I will be watching a movie--probably a western--that my husband would have liked. I will remember him telling me all about the lives of the actors, how this movie compared to another, how the plots developed. I will remember my folks and wish they were again enjoying the rustic comforts of the cabin. I will remember my caring son and daughter who will call later to see what mischief I have been into. And I will remember the "strangers" who crossed my path today to help point me forward into a journey of hope.

That said the event hosted around 176 people for dinner and the Duces Wild music show. First, the place is beautiful and vert well maintained. The meal we had was terrific (Walleye). The other choices were Rib eye steak and a chicken dish. We didn't hear one negative comment about the food. The service was great, food was hot and served quickly. A real accomplishment in today's market where no one wants to work. We will go back!
