I asked for an early check in and they said my room was ready, gave me the room keys. Unfortunately, I opened the door and noticed one of the beds wasn't made, empty soda bottle, and pee still in the toilet. It obviously wasn't cleaned. I walked down to the front desk and asked them to please clean it. I didn't make a big deal about it, but missed details like that is why I gave it two stars. Booked the Hotel due to pictures and website saying they had a waterpark. We arrive a staff were friendly; however, when we walked into the park, we quickly noticed that the big red and blue water slides in the photos are non-existent. They were removed!! We stayed here for a night bc all the other hotels in the area were booked. It was dark and damp and smelly in the halls. The door mats at every entrance were really dirty. It had a bunch of run down yard games out back including a toilet seat horseshoe game and decrepit wooden disc checker game, so it looked like the redneck riviera out back. I was expecting Cousin Eddie to show up. The siding at the bottom of the building was disintegrating in places. The room was dreary and dark and carpet not clean. The bathroom was ok but I cleaned it with Lysol. The sheets looked clean- but the blankets were sort of scary. In other words- I wouldn't recommend staying here if you don't have to. I have to say, the pictures did a little more justice. Called to make reservation and was greeted by the sweetest, nicest most helpful lady. If I recall her name was Denise. Reservations were easy and this place was dog friendly so this was the reason we chose this hotel. $25 non refundable pet fee which seemed fair. When we arrived there was nobody at check in so waited 15 min. Not a biggie. Rooms: Two full size beds? They didn't feel like Queens. Microwave Flatscreen Small Fridge Cleanliness- well...... It didn't feel that clean at all. The desks etc all felt sticky. I brought my own Clorox wipes. Bathroom had bugs and something disgusting in the door frame. TP was almost out. Both rolls were just about empty with no spares. No Kleenex Towels- not all of them were taken and replaced even though they were dirty. Carpet was dirty and was coming up by the outside door. Nice outdoor access if you have a pet, but there was a lot of garbage laying around, cigarette butts, dog poo, etc. The pool area was unbearably hot and not the cleanest. The sign says "with a resort like feel" not the ones I have been to. It was okay for the stay, but for the price it was a little overpriced compared to where we have stayed for less. The views are great. Beach area is not well kept. My son could not get enough of the hammocks, even though they were quite dirty, but he loved it. read more

Wow. I am so sorry to see so many poor reviews. This place is a good value. I am sad to hear we could no longer pay for wristbands bands to have our friends join us at the pool. We used to come here with our son when we lived locally for some much needed R&R. Part of the reason we came here was hoping to spend time with friends at the pool. I guess they've shut this down since COVID. You would think with how little snowmobile traffic is coming through, that this place might welcome some extra dollars coming in. I am also surprised they had limited hours on the big tube slides. Thank goodness we were here on a day when lifeguards were available. They came in 4 pm to 9 pm. It would've be a real disappointment if our kid didn't get to use them. I would be upset if I drove up there just to find out it was closed (I guess this happened to other families the day before). Some families I spoke to stayed an extra night just for this amenity. There is no way to know when making the registration, either. I guess that means travelers beware! read more

Front desk staff were nice, but .. we were never informed that they would not be cleaning the rooms, so on returning from a day in Bayfield and Madeline Island, we were greeted with the wonderful aroma of last night's pizza box, not to mention wet towels on the floor.. (this would not have been a problem if we were made aware). They did have a minimal breakfast, in these Covid days, that you could bag and additional coffee packets but on our second morning, a Sunday, these were all wiped out by 9 am, including the coffee. Combine this with an uncomfortable mattress and a price tag over $200 a night.. nah.. will never stay here again.. better off with the little private motels down the road for that matter... read more

This was a pretty solid hotel. We had started at another hotel first and then came here. It was a definite upgrade. Located right on the lake, all the rooms on one side have a lake view that are great. I recommend it! We had a king suite. We were right at the end of the whole building and it was completely quiet. The room was a good size with a living room type space, bedroom and bathroom. There living room had a couch (not super comfy but fine), chair (comfy), TV stand with fridge, a desk and office chair. It served it's need nicely. The bathroom vanity is in the living room as a transition to the bedroom. It is a nice big vanity. The bathroom with toilet and shower are opposite it. It's not big but does the job. Shower head not too low, good water pressure. The bedroom has French doors separating it. The bed was comfortable enough. There is another TV in there which is nice. The AC worked well which is always a must. The hotel has a small indoor water park we didn't use but would be good for the kids. There is a breakfast area that is a slight trek from the far end we were at, but that's not a complaint, just a statement. The breakfast options were pretty standard decent complimentary breakfast fare. The biggest part of this place was location and relation to it. You are a stone's throw away from the water. There is a small beach area with chairs and fire pits (wood provided). There is a path along the water and various sitting areas along it. There was even a hammock to use. There was also a patio area. They make good use of the location. My one complaint about this is that a lot of people take advantage and some walk through the yard areas right behind the building, which puts them right outside other people's rooms. It's not really the hotel's fault people are kind of inconsiderate but maybe figure out a way to encourage good behavior? The price seems a little high, but from what I saw, that is kind of just par for the course during tourist season in Ashland. We had paid a little less at the first hotel but I was more than willing to pay for this hotel instead... All in all, would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Stayed here for 4 nights last month. Had a good experience with most things. Employees were friendly and helpful, indoor water park area was excellent (the pools weren't freezing cold like most places) and they even have the Jurassic World arcade game in the hotel arcade area. We also enjoyed the yard games out in the back. Minus one star for the facility not being maintained 100% - ex: much of the outdoor activities, benches, etc are super old and starting to rot; we kept finding pieces of broken glass on the beach. The beds are also super uncomfortable, but that seems par for the course with hotels in the 2020s. However it's a nice place to stay with a super beautiful view and great breakfast! read more

Prime real estate on the lake, but they dont keep the beach area clean. They have old cinder blocks and such piled up there. Because of COVID19 we cleaned the room ourselves, so no complaints there, however, the refrigerator was not on and we lost all of our food and the front desk blamed it on me. Not a bad place,older, no a real friendly staff and it is advertised as pet friendly...imagine my shock when I found it that it was an additional $50 night charge since I did not tell them at check in (I booked on the web and no where did it say there was an additional charge). The check in person seemed like she felt she was doing me a favor not once asking about a pet or telling me about breakfast, etc. I was able to get the fee down to $25. The breakfast area was filthy. I told the front desk and she told me to tell the manager. I went back for a new key which is when I was informed of the $50 fee for our dog. We were there on a Monday night in May, so it was mostly business folk. The staff were very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, just a stone's throw from the lake. The free breakfast was the usual fare served in a nice clean room with lots of waffle makers! Remember to leave reviews if you use yelp. That is how this great tool works. read more

Took my boys for a pool day because it was raining. The main pool was closed on a Friday in the summer. Life guard was hard to find. Had to ask the front desk to turn on sprinklers in kiddie pool. Pro: great jungle gym area for kids. Awesome view of Lake Superior Con: not clean. Very dirty. A pool should have above standard sanitation and this was less than par. Bathrooms were gross. This place was filthy. We stayed specifically for the water park, which looked like it hadn't Ben cleaned in years. Band-aids, hair, and general debris covered the wet floors. The hot tub was lined with sand, presumably from the beach. Also, the sauna did not work. We tried the pool area again the next day, and they had not done any cleaning from the previous night. So let me get this straight. I pay AmericInn $179 (yup...you read that right...that's how much I paid for this place after taxes) and they supply me with worse than Motel accommodations and service? NEVER AGAIN. I was in town for a wedding and there weren't a ton of options. Something tells me they know this because the rooms were dingy, pillows filled with some weird feathers that my entire group seemed to be "allergic" to (and they don't have any replacement pillows either), a "breakfast" that came with orange and apple juice that seriously tasted like they had added bleach into, and a shower that was perfectly fine...UNTIL YOU LOOK CLOSER AND NOTICE LITTLE BUGS IN THE CREVICES OF THE TILE. My family and i stayed for two nights with a view room. When I checked in, I was very surprised to see the whole front desk wrapped in plastic. Not plexiglass, more like kitchen plastic wrap. The view is certainly beautiful, however the rooms are not. The bed sheets smelt very stale and old, there was no mattress cover on the pull out sofa bed and the bed itself was not flat. It was high on one end and low on the other, very uncomfortable. All the mattress were very old and lumpy. The rooms smelt stale as well and old, and were not very clean. Housekeeping did not come either. During covid, the breakfast was a packet of oatmeal, yogurt, 3 small muffins, chewy bar and bottle of water; one day there was an orange added. For the cost, definitely think they could've splurged a tad more and added more options. But I'm not sure if this is just how hotels are during covid or not. When I checked out, the lady asked me repeatedly if I was sure I was in room 143. Personally I wouldn't stay here again, when I pay nearly $600 for two nights for a "luxury room" minimally I expect it to be clean, smell good and fresh clean sheets. read more

There's so much to do outside at this hotel. There's a game of giant checkers, giant ladder golf, giant bean bag toss, all next to Lake Superior. We stayed for two nights and it never got old. The slides at the pool were so much fun!! 11/10, would recommend. read more

The water park was decent, best part is the water was warm in the pools. The slides were fun and the rooms were nice. The bummer was it was grimy. The hotel in general needed a good scrub. Especially the hot tub. Sand in the bottom, and candy wrappers tossed to the side. They might want to incentivize the house keeping to do a better job. The room was clean, but the hotel wasn't. For $150 I'd prefer not feeling crawly. They do allow dogs for $25, and the view of Lake Superior from our room was nice. read more

We are in the Ashland area A LOT. My wife's family is from Ashland, as well as Ironwood, so we visit at least every couple of years if not more. We love the area and have stayed everywhere, from camping at Prentice Park to staying in cheap motels to staying at the Hotel Chequamegon to staying at some very pricey private cabins in Bayfield, and honestly this place blew them all out of the water. We took advantage of some special off season pricing, and while we were expecting just the normal hotel experience, we got so much more. What you see in the pictures is what you get. The location is great, it's at the east end of town right on Highway 2 so it's very easy to get anywhere. It's also right on Lake Superior, make sure to get a room facing the lake, it's worth the extra money just to watch the sun rise. The rooms are very clean and while they could certainly be updated a little more, they're still updated more than most in the area. The service is second to none. I was almost always asked if I needed help and I was always greeted in passing. On Saturday night, the manager on duty (I believe his name is Jody) came up and talked to us for about ten minutes, making sure we had everything and we were enjoying our stay. When I told him he has nothing to worry about and they blow away most of the hotels/motels in the area he was very excited. He told us of their plans to update certain areas (areas like the breakfast room, which I had no problems with). By the end of the weekend we stayed, most of the staff knew my name, as well as my wife and my daughters. You don't get that often. The amenities is the best part of this place. When they say it's like a resort in a motel, it's true. Since it's right on the lake, it has a patio as well as a beach. They provide fishing poles and night crawlers if you like to fish. They tell me in the summer, they have paddle boats and a campfire fire at night, complete with s'mores. There is a packed game room on site, which is a plus for an old arcade gamer like myself. Ice is free and stocked. Vending machines are full of cheap soda and snacks. The pool area is much bigger than it looks in the pictures, especially the Waterslides, which are fast and fun. The whole area is clean and well staffed. There is a very small restaurant near the pool area that serves pizza and sandwiches. There is also a small workout room on the second floor which is clean and very well maintained. There is always fresh coffee by the front desk, which is really important since I drink a lot of coffee on these trips. The best amenity is the free continental breakfast. At most hotels/motels, this means coffee, donuts and bagels. They pull out all the stops here. Eggs, sausage, bagels, pastries, English muffins, juice, waffles, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, tea and I'm sure I'm missing a lot more. That actually saved us a little money on the trip, since we left in the morning filled up. I don't think I will ever stay anyplace else in Ashland (outside of camping outside). This is an absolute must stay at place in the Ashland area, especially if you have kids. read more

This Hotel is a Complete Fail! We had a reservation with a confirmation number that they refused to honor because they were "full". Okay, so what are reservations and confirmation numbers for, then?!!! The front desk staff was not helpful. They pointed us to other, also full, hotels, which we had to call. They were not apologetic. They really couldn't have cared less that their reservation system was broken, and here's the kicker -- they told us we were the 6th "reservation" they had to turn away that day!! I had one a free nights stay in a King suite so I've only had the pleasure of staying one night, but it was definitely enjoyable. The room was very clean and spacious. Wow - what's not to like about this place! The "splashland" indoor water park is perfect for kids both young and old; I was able to purchase a drink at the pool bar and slip into the hot tub and enjoy the scenic views of Lake Superior out the window. Outside, they had a fire-pit going with free s'mores for the guests. I saw the most beautiful sunset over Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands from the patio. There is an cool little beach on the shores of the lake and a I got real sense of "warm and fuzzy" from the hotel staff and other guests, everyone here seemed to be happy, cheerful, and friendly. My room had no privacy and was in a location that was very loud. I could make out conversations. I was on the first floor and windows directly in front of patio area. Noisy in the evening and people could see directly into my room if the shades were not pulled. Not restful. Asked to be switched rooms and hotel was full. Paid 200$ + a night for this location. I stayed here as a second choice because the beautiful Best Western in town was fully booked. This hotel was subpar. It needs a major facelift both in the common spaces and in the rooms. Putting granite countertops in a bathroom does not automatically make it updated- finish the project. I could tell the second I walked into the rooms that the beds were junk. Unacceptable. The main reason people stay in hotels is to sleep. My room was on ground level with a walkout but a iron gate prevented me from enjoying the shoreline from my room. The complimentary breakfast the next day was soggy bacon and a big ol' bite of cold scrambled eggs. Also, I'm fully aware that Wisconsin loves their precious football team, but is it really necessary to broadcast the Packer game throughout hallway speakers of the hotel? read more

We went on a Saturday at 2pm in September and they told us they couldn't sell us any swim passes because they had a full house. I didn't think they were allowed to deny us because we didn't have a room. But thankfully we had our kid and he got a sad look and she said she would sell us the bands. We rented the hall for a wedding. The management assured us the outside would be clear of construction debris and dumpsters as part of the hotel was under construction. On the day of decorating we couldn't start until after 11am because the continental breakfast was being held in part of the reception hall which costs $1000.00 for just the hall. Their mission statement says they will do all the work for the setup you just put up your decor and they will handle the rest stress free..BS we went there to decorate. The tables were lined up all over the hall with 100 extra chairs. When we asked for them to be removed" Kristen" the manger said" ppl will have their eyes on the bride not the tables" the linens were still in the bags wrinkled like crazy. And no linens for the raised head table.. so you could see all their legs? Manager brought us a plastic runner from Walmart.. WOW good thing we had experience in food service so we duct taped table clothes together to cover the front of the head table. We had 4 hours to complete the decorating because then we had rehearsal and dinner. The manger kept making excuses that they were under construction and that the dumpsters right out front couldn't be moved and the extra tables and chairs had no place to go due to construction... she said that same excuse 100 times for everything. She was lazy rude and not helpful at all. For $1000.00 rental we should have had the hall for free. We had sweat running down out backs from cleaning and rearranging all the extra crap they had laying around from the construction and inconvenience of having to steam every table cloth and fold all our own napkins... they had NOTHING DONE in the hall. 2 of the wedding party had their weddings there and had non of these issues they both only had to put their decor on the tables and the rest was done when they arrived . What a joke... when Kristen was talked to about it all she kept saying was" there is nothing I can do" or what do you want from me? The bride and groom were so disappointed but didn't want to ruin their day with arguing with management... we had beautiful live balsam and cedar garland and 200 roses to do too besides having to move all the tables and chairs out of the way clean and steam linens. My husband and I wanted our babies wedding perfect and paid nearly $6000.00 for food and beer for this reception. Kristen was talked to by several people about this and she completely ignored us. I will never use this venue or recommend it to anyone. I have a large family and word traveled fast about our disappointment and how bad we were treated. The food service was amazing done by breakwater! They were very professional and helpful!!!has we not paid in ADVANCE for the hall rental I would have never EVER paid the bill. Stayed here 2/23/18. WHO ON EARTH WOULD MAKE THE DECISION TO RE-CARPET A HOTEL LOBBY ON A FRIDAY EVENING WHEN YOUR FACILITY IS COMPLETELY BOOKED??? The unsafe and dangerous environment I witnessed/experienced was UNBELIEVABLE! Multiple 5 gallon buckets of carpet glue left uncovered and unattended all over the lobby, carpet cutting razor blades left unattended in the lobby, loose carpet rolls in high traffic areas, and general unbelievable disorganization. No warning this would be happening when booking our room. Not a single warning/caution sign, or blocking off of an area that was being worked on. The fact that the staff and management allowed this to happen MAKES ME QUESTION EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS FACILITY. I will be making a personal phone call to the head manager and also to the owner. The first hotel my family visited on our trip. Generally, it was ok. We were at the end of the hall on the west end of the building facing the parking lot so it was quiet and we did not have the noise issues others have mentioned. My biggest personal issue was security. Every few hours over my four day stay, I would have to remove duct tape placed on the outside door lock (second to last door from west end of hotel near vending) that someone had put there so they could take a smoke break without a key. Anybody could get into the hotel if they wanted to. This seemed like it had been happening for a while. The hotel needs a camera there or a staff member more closely monitoring the situation. Room was fine but nothing special. My wife's side of the bed had a poky spring that kept her awake most of the time during the night. AC worked great with the hot weather but could be noisy at times. Outdoor area was very nice, particularly the beach with firepits and the inner tubes you could take out on the lake. Nice water slides and inside snack bar if the kids got hungry later in the evening. This is a hotel with a lot of amenities for kids. We ran into some friends who were staying at the Chequamegon Best Western and didn't think it had as many options for kids as the AmericInn. Unfortunately, this hotel had the worst breakfast on my trip. The first two mornings had no hot items at all. Overall, fine hotel but not worth the $180 price. read more
