This character came off immediately as a wiseguy who refused to answer even the simplest questions I had regarding his polygraph practice. When pressed for information, he gave only broad, non-specific answers that were of no help whatsoever. I thought I'd hire this quack to perform a polygraph test, so I asked him what kind of machine he uses. He said "The old fashioned pen and needle". So I asked him how old is the machine is, and he replied "Why does it matter how old it is?" I explained that polygraph machines have progressively improved dramatically over the years since the "old fashioned pen and needle" models, to which he replied "What's the big deal?". I should have followed my instincts when I first spoke to Dan McBride. At our first conversation I felt like I was given the bums rush but thought he just might be really busy. In any case, after several brief phone conversations with him I met him at his office, with my significant other, for a lie detector test, that my man agreed to take. Well, when we got there Mr. McBride didn't even know our names, which I thought was very unprofessional. He asked me to bring my most relevant questions with me to go over and I did. However, he choose to use his own time frame and his own broad questions that I didn't even have on my sheet of paper. Furthermore, to add insult to injury he went over all my questions that I had on my sheet that were just for him, with my significant other and he went over the procedure of the test with my fiancee' as planned but not only did he go over it but he went over it again and again and again, until my financee was completely at ease and knew every questions and every answer, in the exact order, the test would be administered. He coached him to pass, I feel, out of fear. I felt Dan was very unethical and was too accommodating towards my man. I felt betrayed. What Mr. McBride didn't know is that I recorded my man at home so I know he has had interaction with another female but I didn't want to expose this fact. I had expected to be validated and relieved but instead, again, I felt betrayed. He also wouldn't take a debit card. He wanted just cash. My advice to anyone who needs a lie detector test, would be, to go somewhere else. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY for that purpose. read more

When you think of a family business, private investigations is not one of those that springs to mind... at all. Dan, the owner of American Eagle Investigations is a second generation private investigator. I found that fact, and Dan himself, to be fascinating. (I had called Dan about another issue but the memories started flowing.) Many years ago, I held a private investigator's license in another state. Those engaged in that occupation were former law enforcement officers or ex-military. But not one of them had a father in the business to "show them the ropes". Of course, one learns a lot from being with NYPD. Dan did, too... and his father before him. Which means that Dan has his own NYPD and PI experience as well as the years his father was with NYPD and his father's years of PI experience, too. Over 75 years of experience total. (Dan even has the same office in Manhattan that his father had.) As I talked with Dan, it was obvious he has the old values that you find in established family businesses. You work directly with the owner who cares very much about you, your case and the outcome. Also, it is his name on the line... not some corporation or franchise. He really takes pride in that, too. It is not just a paycheck but rather a mindset. Dan even gives his clients his personal cell phone number! Dan is very happy to have you check his references. (Would you have thought to do this if you were hiring a PI? You should have.) And, unlike other businesses (say like dry cleaners) that give you a "done by date", the investigation process takes what it takes. There are PIs who will give a set time period, but unless they are holding a spiffy crystal ball In their non-dominant hand, this is a good sign to keep on looking for the PI you want working for you... not just telling you what they think you want to hear. Another telltale sign is any investigator who guarantees anything... other than their very best efforts. Promises to gain business are not the mark of the successful professional. As a matter of fact, if you have unrealistic expectations, Dan would prefer not to work with you. As Dan explained it to me, he does have two generations of experience, two generations of contacts/connections and two generations of reputation. However, unrealistic expectations can only lead to disappointment. Disappointment is a reality in the PI business. However, Dan wants to prevent it where possible by being realistic and upfront. He wants you to be satisfied. You and your case are very important to Dan. That is why he does what he does and why he is available 24 hours. (I didn't do that when I was a private investigator! Who does that?!?) It has been many years since I was a PI. But I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty. If I need "someone in my corner" when I am in the tri-state area, I am calling Dan. I needed to do a background check on someone (who shall remain nameless, since I don't want him to know!), and a good friend of mine recommended American Eagle Investigations. I was a bit hesitant to call at first since they're in NY and I'm in Los Angeles, but my friend gave them such a high recommendation, I decided to give them a try. I am an attorney in New York and at various occasions in the course of my practice, I need the skills of someone capable of performing investigatory services. I have used at least half a dozen private investigation companies in the tri-State area so my comments are based on an assessment relative to the industry at-large. Daniel is the most unprofessional PI I have dealt with. My misfortune of having chosen him. He is incompetent, unprofessional and dishonest. As a PI he didn't provide me with information which I could benefit from , which other PI provide. When one wants to hire a PI , you want to leverage on their experience to help and guide you, he never rold me PI have access to database to get target's or his lovers complete details date of birth , address phone number etc ).The day of the surveillance 22nd June he couldn't help me at all it was shocking he was on hire for a 13hr surveillance but we concluded within 3-5 hrs as he was unable to locate the target. Had he told me it was the targets girlfriend's birthday through the report I would have known this is a day we can't miss, it was sheer coincidence that I had chosen a date for surveillance while he wasn't there .I had also told him target will be coming home to get his office bag ,he should have used his experience to come to my house back , as target did come home to get his office bag but Daniel was too far away to reach target. It was collosal waste of $2200 paid to him to conduct surveillance on 2 days while on 1st day we concluded surveillance after 3-5 hrs. Thereafter ,He didn't even confirm once on email or text on any date which I was asking for to conduct surveillance and this continued for a month, and then I decided to call him and ask for a refund, first he told me there is only 4-5 hrs worth of refund due , then afterwards he calls me up to say there is nothing due as I had cancelled 4 appointments and I asked him to provide me proof of which dates were ever agreed by him for surveillance ? He obviously couldn't provide any evidence and till date hasn't provided me any refund . read more

I really don't know how this company got these good reviews. For my own experience I have only disappointments. Before I signed the contract and made the transfer, Daniel said he would inform me when and what time to start and finish on each surveillance with pictures and videos, with time marks. I requested a surveillance in the evening from an office to a home where the 2 locations are just a few min walk away from each other. I waited for 2 weeks and had to asked and chased a few times to get him to finally to agree to start instead of him keeping me informed of his plan/schedule. I was hooked in the air wondering if he actually had any plans. Then on the date he told me he would start, he never informed me his starting time and when he was there. Until after 10pm I texted him that the person I wanted him to follow is still in office, so the surveillance window was narrowed and if he was really there he should not leave but wait for an hour or a bit more. He then replied me "ok". Of course he got nothing in that evening. I asked him how I know he was there to do the job, he then sent me 2~3 pictures of the building - that's really convenient LOL! Then the next day I asked him if he would be able to deliver a result for this mission, he replied he already did two surveillance and my payment is used up (btw he charged 2 full day surveillance for 2 evenings!)
