I have a few friends at nursing homes in the region. A request many times is for a shoulder rub. For older folks who have almost no visitors this is heavenly. Any group(s) that have a heart for elderly and could provide a discounted service?

We do offer discount massages for Seniors at $25 for a 1-hour appointment. On-site is difficult as nursing home residents have special needs medically and we would not want to… Read more

The students are here to learn how to give an excellent massage, pass the state board exam and become licensed straight out of school. I found out the owner is a past State Board member and keeps up with research and information so we aren't learning needless information. I would suggest everyone do their homework prior to enrolling into other schools and come to New School for Massage if you want a true career. Make sure you aren't pushed into enrolling in other schools, ask for the school MBLEx pass rate, and make sure you know what you are paying for. Compare everything to this school. New School for Massage is the BEST school for massage.

Received a massage (not your typical one!) as one of my birthday gifts from my boyfriend. Emmanuel was the instructor (owner of the institute)for the class teaching my boyfriend a crash course on massage therapy (2 hours long!) on me! The class was very intimate. There was only one other couple in the room and Emmanuel and his client for instructional purposes. The place is very clean, calm, and soothing. Emmanuel is attentive, patient, and knowledgeable (I believe he mentioned he's been doing this for 30+ years). He made the class very comfortable and engaging. I am so happy with my experience! It was a very unique idea and was fun and relaxing at the same time.

Looks like many yelpers have covered this already, but here's the deal with this place... $33 for an hour long massage. They give you a student and you can't specify which massage therapist you want (including male vs female). My massage therapist was a perky little thing named Rachel. She'll soon be graduating from the school and she definitely knows her stuff. Rachel was very professional and applied just the right amount of pressure. I'm extremely tight so sometimes massages can be painful for me, but Rachel is pretty small so she could do jumping jacks on my back and it probably wouldn't hurt. It's amazing how relaxed I felt after an hour with Rachel. And the price gets better than $33 because if you come back within 30 days it's $28. 30 days? They can count on me to come back within a week! Is this the best massage I've ever had? Nope, but definitely the best massage for the price!

While meditating MASSAGE came to me like a bolt of lightning, I didn't pause I ran with it. Searching a school that I could do at my own pace (I had to stay at my current job until completed) AND affordable I found SOHMAR. I met with Mike and instantly knew this was my place. BEST DECISION I MADE. From the first class to the last it was like being part of a family. We learned from each other, exchanged techniques and ideas (I miss that part a lot). As for the instructors, Mike (the owner) and Steve (a former student of SOHMAR). I can't express enough how valuable the knowledge and techniques they've passed on to us are. I graduated last August and passed MBLEX in September. I am currently employed and working on starting my own practice. My current clients constantly comment on my skills. I have Mike, Steve and my classmates to thank for that and am forever grateful. I was given the tools I need and more importantly the confidence to succeed. Even after graduation I keep in touch with some of my, now colleagues, and know I can always call on Steve or Mike for advice. I also got my reflexology certification through SOHMAR. They truly want us to succeed. If you are looking for a school look no further. THANK YOU MIKE, STEVE AND EVERYONE I ATTENDED WITH. Sincerely Amy M

They went to 1 hour phone class three times a week. I have made a complaint to the BBB and the Illinois Board of Higher Education. You are better off looking for a school that has teachers that want to teach. You owe it to yourself to find a school that will not violate the the enrollment agreement of 600 credit hours in aprox 44 weeks. Also, I'm saving you from a business stand point, SOHMAR withheld money. I paid $7500 up front. I attended 5 weeks of classes, some of which were over the phone, and I only received $4900.

As I looked as if I was about to leave she convinced me to try it out... and I got an excellent STRONG swedish massage from Meghan (?). So relaxing that the hour went by like lightning. Second visit... while knowing I prefer stronger massages... Colleen B. assigns me the smallest of the students who shakes my hand limply with paws the size of my palm... while giving the tiny older lady in the room a 6'6" guy. Really genius? So am I suffering through an oily petting for about 15 min... trying to ask for more pressure. This student is bad... no pressure level check, no wrapping or sheet draping, have to ask for bolsters and pillow... strokes are uneven... And then the astute Colleen B. comes by to say she's doing a great job and that I need to manage my expectations... this isn't a spa and this student is doing everything correctly. Uhhm yeah Colleen... that's why you got the bolster when I asked where it was... Not worth the the small savings you get coming here... it's a gamble and a waste of an hour... next time I'll just hit my normal reflexology place.

Also not a great choice for very modest people -- although there are curtain-style dividers, (picture the emergency room, only much shorter curtains), and there may be people coming in and out of your massage (to supervise the student). However, you're professionally draped, etc. etc. That said, it's $25 and very relaxing, so who cares? :) Recommended.

This really is a great school. I was skeptical at first because of how small it was, but trust me,…read morethat actually works to your benefit. I think a lot of the people on other sites who had negative things to say just expected to be able to graduate and waltz on out into the workforce and command their pay, schedule, length of commute, and everything else. It doesn't work that way for ANYONE, in any area. Heck, there's people that go to universities for their bachelors, masters, and PhD's, and still can't find the job they want or feel they deserve. Unfortunately, that's the way it is now - you have to start from the bottom and work your way up. This school gives you the tools to do so. Classes are really interesting and informative, you get hands-on experience in the classroom on the equipment, the teachers actually know what they're talking about, all of them either currently work in the area in which they teach, or did so for many, many years. They don't accept student loans, but they do have payment plans, and in the long run, you are saving yourself a LOT of money. By this time net year you could have a completely different career, like their ads say, haha! But it's true. You might have to get your foot in the door somewhere as a medical receptionist or something like that, but this school gives you the education you need to advance, and make good money doing something fun and interesting. And the teachers not only teach you the material, but they can tell you all about what the job really involves, how and where to look for jobs. Ask them, they know what they're talking about! Oh, and one more thing - the certification for the Cardiology and Echo/Vascular classes is through CCI, and I've heard from a lot of doctors that CCI is actually better than ARDMS, which is the other accrediting agency for those areas. And their classes allow you to sit for the exam, so when you pass the test (which you can, and will, if you study!) you can go get a job anywhere in the WORLD! How cool is that??
