The greatest bar in all of Brooklyn. If you landed here by accident, you're incredibly lucky and will be welcomed into a new and wonderful world of people. If you're a local, you already know. No bar will ever compare to American Cheez. There will never be a bar that can come close to how incredible this bar is. The games are fun and the pizza is obviously amazing but what you come here for is family. Keep coming back and you'll become a part of it. It will change your life. I miss you guys. read more

Laid back friendly atmosphere with a great bartender and decent beer selection on tap.

The best, great staff, friendly spot, so glad they made it through the other side of COVID

What a perfect dive bar!! They have fun table games to play with while you just hang around. It has such an old school comfy vibe, you can spend a few hours here with friends. They also give personal pizza with your drinks which was such a great treat! The night we went they even had trivia going on which was fun. Most of the bar was involved & everyone is just playing, drinking & having a chill time. Wish I lived closer because it would definitely be my go to spot for nightly hang outs. read more

Came here last night as part of my Brooklyn bar crawl! Their draft selection is pretty dismal compared to alligator lounge but I was curious to try their free pizza deal as well. Unlike the alligator lounge this place gets a bonus point simply for not having a card minimum so it's truly a deal to buy a beverage and get a free pizza unlike the alligator lounge which if you don't have cash you will be forced to spend at least $12 to use your card which defeats the purpose a drink and a personal pie for dirt cheap .I got a pint of Stella and just a plain cheese instead of the pepperoni pie so that I could truly fairly compare this pie to the alligator lounge free pie and it was pretty good ! Is it the best pizza ever had like another yelper said ? No of course not. Is it a pretty decent free personal pizza? Hell yeah !!! This place actually has a better pie compared to their alligator lounge As they use better ingredients for the Dough the sauce and the cheese! The dough actually does taste like something whereas the alligator lounge taste like paper. Alligator lounge's pizza cheese kind a reminded me of the fake or really low-quality cheese you used to get in public school lunches . I'd recommend eating this pie ASAP as this isn't a pie that taste good cold which I never thought was a possibility for pizza but I stand corrected. Also feel free to hook it up with as much grated Parmesan and red chili flakes and oregano ! They also have an assortment of free hot sauces behind the bar for those who need a little extra spice in their life! read more

Not sure how to judge this place. Maybe it was an off night, maybe it was because it was New Year's Day and no one wanted to be there, but I didn't walk away from this establishment with a warm fuzzy feeling. When we walked in, my friend asked if there were any specials. We were told it was just the free pizza special with any drink. Ok, fine. Apparently this was the wrong question to ask though; because every thing after this moment was negative. For example: -We were never asked if we wanted the pizza special after we ordered our drinks (I asked my friend, not the bartender, how much the breakout of the cost went--just wanted to know how much each item was for the future. Bartender overheard and seemed to disapprove of me asking my friend that directly. Kelso Pilsner was $7, Bud cans are $5, fwiw). I don't know if it was assumed since we asked about it earlier we weren't interested (which makes no sense--even if we were viewed as being cheap, the pizza is inclusive of ordering a drink and has nothing to do with price), but I distinctly overheard the bartender ask two other groups if they wanted the special after they ordered drinks. Thought that was a bit odd. Did they forget? -After never being asked about said pizza, and the two bartenders on duty talking among themselves at the other end of the bar from where we were (although there were very few people at the bar at this time, we kept looking over to request the pizza and got nowhere), I politely and calmly went over to ask for the special. "NO F'N WAY!", hilarious male bartender (who incredibly may be the owner) remarked. He was joking (I guess), but again, didn't really seem necessary to respond in that manner, especially considering the previous events that transpired. I can take a joke with the best of them, but this one seemed questionable at best. They eventually got us the pizza (seemed to take way too long for something that takes about five seconds at Crocodile Lounge, who hosts a similar special and just give you a pizza ticket when you order a beer, which seems more practical), but my patience had worn thin at this point. Pizza was a small personal pan thing, but certainly not worth the wait. $1 upcharge for toppings. -Other bartender asked me if I was done with my pizza even though I was clearly still eating it, just taking a break and catching up with my friend after not seeing him for a few months (I was visiting from the West Coast). WTF? Do they want me to never come back? What's the rush? Are there only two of those silver platter serving things in stock and they need to re-use mine? -At the end of the night, bartender #1 (non-expletive speaking jokester bartender) seemed to do a 180, asking if we wanted a refill and refilling my water glass without being asked to do so. Also strange, since it was actual normal bartender behavior. Not enough to regain my patronage, though. Again, I don't know if it was due to the variables outlined above, or if I was rude in discussing pricing privately, promotions, and flat out just showing up to the bar, but behavior like that certainly seems unwarranted and out of line, and I felt it was important to note that in my review. Maybe that's all part of the kitsch and show at this establishment, but in all my previous years living in NYC, I never remember leaving somewhere with as much frustration than here. read more

A little slice of heaven for those of us in the hood. Neighborhood/dive/sports bar all rolled into one. Incredible staff, great patrons, chill vibe, and damn good pizza. read more

What's not to love about a free pizza with every drink? The pizza has fairly generous amounts of sauce and cheese also, which isn't always the case at free-pizza-with-beer-purchase joints. Good selection of beers on tap and some cheap ones in bottles. Decor is kitschy and fun, although I could have done without Isaac Hanson's dead eyes staring at me from behind the top shelf of liquor. I appreciated the fantastic 90s picture of Michael Bolton, however, because I think with his resurgence people have forgotten about the fantastic head of hair he used to have. They could use some reminding. Also? Super friendly staff. And they've got a ski that has magnetic shot glasses on it. If the prospect of having a shotski doesn't entice you, then I can't help you. It should. Note: I did not have a shot from the shotski, it just looks cool. Maybe next time. read more

who doesn't love free pizza, good service and full house puzzles? The decor is kitschy and kind of amazing in a very retro pop culture way. The crowd was a good mix of young and old and there was plenty of breathing room for a Saturday night. Drinks weren't expensive and no one batted an eye when I ordered a margarita because it was national margarita day. Honestly i can't say enough good things- I even got to leave with some gaga glasses. read more

I live in Park Slope, but I usually do my drinking with friends in the Village, since they all are too lazy to take the train into Brooklyn. So unfortunately, I never get the chance to bring friends to American Cheez, which is quickly becoming my favorite bar in the Park Slope area. I usually drunkenly stumble in all by my lonesome for a quick nightcap, and I always end up staying longer than I planned. The owner, I wish I could remember his name, is one of the most down-to-earth, coolest guys ever. He usually tends bar, and he's the fucking man. And of course the free pizza is a great perk. read more

Absolutely loooove this place, not only is the owner an amazing person but this place is def as good as it gets! Who doesn't love free pizza with every drink?? Whenever I have friends in town, I have to bring them here. It's a one of a kind experience that always sticks out in people's mind. Overall, great duvet bar atmosphere. One of the few good places around to watch a game. Every bar tender Uber interacted with has been incredibly friendly. Lots of board games, jenga, connect four if you're on a date or with some pals. And of course the review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the free personal pizza with EVERY drink. For a free pizza it's actually quite good. Nice crisp, decent flavor, and a little secret, you can ask for toppings for just a $1. Love this place. read more

Beer, pizza, karaoke, and popsicles!! Went to this bar on a Wednesday night with coworkers. So many aspects of this bar won me over. Everyone was having a great time and very chill atmosphere. And when you purchase a beer you get a free pizza. The pizza is actually fresh and made on the spot. I had one and then wanted another. The people participating in karaoke seemed to be having a GREAT time. The bartender was pretty chill and laid back and started passing out Popsicles while we were there. I am assuming because is it super hot inside even though the AC Units were on. This is the type of bar that isn't a dive but definitely a spot where I would you just come for the drinks. I enjoyed it read more

This place is right up the block from my old art in South Slope. If it had only been here before we moved, I may have never left. It's the perfect cheesy dive bar. It's everything I want in a bar. I was looking for the perfect bar in Park Slope to celebrate my milestone 30th birthday, and I couldn't have found a better place! The owner Brad and bartender Joe were SO accommodating and nice to our entire group. No matter how many free pizza orders we put in (you can get one with every single drink), they just kept on coming at a very reasonable pace. It was a great place to watch some March Madness, with a big projector screen and three additional corner TVs. We were there for well over 7 hours, and never once felt like we were expected to leave. Also, they were totally fine with us bringing in a cake, and getting the whole bar to sing Happy Birthday. And I can't forget to mention the hilarious interior wall and ceiling decorations. So much to look and laugh at. Highly recommended as a birthday party venue, or just a casual spot to grab a few brews and eat some free pizza. All in all, I was extremely pleased with the Cheez. read more

Walked in and asked if the kitchen was open. Bartender said "we don't have a kitchen, we have an oven". At that moment you might think she'd assume or ask if it was our first time. But no, the game continues. Then I ask for a menu. She says there is no menu just pizza. Eventually I finally learned that you get a free personal pizza with a drink and only 2 toppings choices. That's cool and I've never heard that before. But seriously, the back and forth convo took forever and it felt like she was being more of a smartass than anything else. Aesthetically the place is cool as shit! From the bathroom to the board games there was so much nostalgia and novelty. We enjoyed ourselves greatly. Pizza was fine. I didn't expect much so I was just glad it wasn't bad. The games are falling apart and missing pieces, so hopefully they update. On the way out our server thought to mention that a guy just gave her a huge tip and left his card, so she would probably be texting him. So...yeah thanks for letting us know. Was that a hint that if I beat his tip you might take me behind the bar? Needless to say I did not find her antics very charming. Great atmosphere and free food holds up the 3rd star on this one. read more

Craft beer reasonably priced with a complimentary pizza upon your order? Yes! Also, American Cheez is a super geeky bar that harbors a love from horrible amazing movies starring Pauly Shore, The Almighty Arnold Schwarzenegger and probably Nicholas Cage, to Wonder Woman and other comic book heroes, to Garbage Pail Kids cards, to Troll dolls, to the NYC Rangers. Its cheezy. Don't mind the lava lamps and disco ball. I came here a few months ago and am sorry I have not managed to drag any of my friends back because its fairly close to my apartment. I like it though the service is a bit slow. It took about 45 minutes for them to come out with the pizza. I can't cry because its free and there was Sriracha sauce on the table which sealed the deal. Pizza quality? Not bad and I don't think they even charged us for getting one with pepperoni on it. It's on the Croc Lounge level of cheap cheesy pizza goodness. They also have board games like Jenga, Connect Four, Apples to Apples, and Trivia Pursuit and that's a major win! Only downside, they are a Notre Dame bar. BOO! read more

I've always wanted to go to a bar where the owner said to themselves "Look I just want to own a bar where I can hang out and have a good time. On top of that I want everyone else to have a fun time with me." American Cheez is the fulfillment of that vision. This place is plain fun. The staff and the owner certainly make the experience. I was a tourist that day but by the end of our time there we felt like regulars that lived around the corner. It's a dive but not really. It's a sports bar but not really. Hell it's probably a bunch of things every night but that's the beauty of it. I only wished that I lived upstairs and could be a regular. I wish I had a place in the bay area that made me feel this comfortable. On top of the fact the place was fun, the drinks were strong, and the people were amazing they give you free personal pizzas. Yeah you heard me right. Free complimentary pizza in NYC just for drinking there. If that doesn't keep you coming back all the kitschy knick knacks from the 80's-90's adorning the walls will keep you staring and playing find this or that all night long. I pray that one day they open an American Cheez 2 in Oakland. you know since we are the next Brooklyn anyway... if you guys read this feel free to make this happen. I'll even become a Notre Dame fan for the rest of my life. read more

Walked in on a Saturday in August after a nice walk in Prospect park. We were looking for a quick place to eat and drink so we found some seats at the bar. It's a bit dive-y but who cares when pizza comes with a beer. I did have to ask for the free pizza and they didn't have the "system" down yet. My favorite bar in Park Slope. A drink with a pizza for free?! Don't know another place where I can find that. Its the perfect place to go at anytime. The bartenders are friendly, beers and drinks are good, and the pizza is the icing on top. We used to love going just to have a quick drink, to play connect 4 and enjoy the pizza. This is a Bar(TM)-brand bar. It's such a Bar(TM)-brand bar that I didn't even realize it had a name other than Bar before coming on Yelp to write a review of it. I had to type "bar" into the search function and figure it out based on the location. Now all those posters in the bathroom about American Cheez Trivia Night make more sense. Don't get me wrong: a Bar(TM)-brand bar is not always a bad thing. Sometimes you don't want artisanal cocktails or a wine list engraved on wood reclaimed from old railroad ties. Sometimes you just want a two-ingredient well-drink cocktail or a pint of the kind of beer your dad would drink. Sometimes you want to enjoy your drink without having to listen to a three-piece washboard band in vests playing ragtime versions of Lady Gaga songs or watch Dr. Who-themed burlesque. Sometimes you don't want a bunch of creepy taxidermy staring at you from the walls. Don't worry: the bar at American Cheez is a bar. It has stools and serves drinks. The walls are decorated in posters of guilty-pleasure movies like Sharknado and, like, Weekend at Bernie's. I saw someone drinking a martini: that looked fancy and out of place. The playlist sounds like what you'd hear at a second wedding. There's some TVs showing sports and movies on TBS and stuff. Last night I had to switch seats cause I kept getting distracted by Batman. The crowd is as generic-looking as you can find in NYC. This bar could be picked up in a hurricane, swirled through space, and plunked down in Minnesota, and it would still feel right at home. It's a bar, okay? It's just a bar. I was going to give it three stars because it's as average as they come, but then I found out that the pizza is free and you can't NOT tack on a star for that. read more

Cute dive bar with decent drink specials, pizza, and karaoke. However, service can be slow and confusing with the pizzas.

The owner (waffle) is the first and last interaction I encounter every time. Nice little dive-y bar for late night karaoke, drinks and free pizza with your drinks. Tons of kitschy 70s-90s things floating around here from the toys and board games scattered around to all the wall decorations. Definitely a lot of fun! There is a great group of bartenders and people who work here who do a great job keeping up the friendly vibe of the place itself. The beer - the draft beer is a bit tapped out, but not too bad where it takes it away from the experience. It is great to have a free mini pizza with every drink you get, especially when the munchies hit. I've been here a few times for karaoke nights which is always tons of fun. I really, really love this place! Ricardo is the best bartender in Park Slope - he's personable, observant, and he will treat you the same whether he's busy or not. dive bar for the 30 year old and over crowd who cannot handle their alcohol. Likely former frat boys and sorority girls. People getting wasted and talking way too loud. Yes free pizza.
