First application (of 3) of bleach when they ignored me when I said I wanted to cut my hair first to make the bleaching process easier.

I've been going to this Beauty School for years, since 2014. I would get my hair dyed, my hair blow dried and flattened, sometimes I would get a trim or a cut. I've also gotten a buzzcut from them as well. From 2014-2017 this beauty school was top notch. They taught stylists about different hair textures and I always left satisfied. Since 2017 management has changed twice or thrice I believe and it has been terrible with every switch so I would only go maybe once to twice a year and be okay with the service (I'd have to go home and re-straighten my hair usually). This visit (April 2023) was the worst one. I went in to bleach and cut my hair but both Ms. Q, Ms Karen would not listen to me every single time tried to explain what I wanted. When I mentioned I wanted to cut my shoulder-length hair to a short afro they would interject and tell me not to. I couldn't even get through my sentence of asking for the hairstyle I would like. When I repeatedly tried to tell them that I've dyed my hair before and chopping my hair and then bleaching would be easier, they again ignored me and continued to try and bleach my hair leaving my ends dry and pink from the ginger dye I had from a few years back. I grew increasingly Frustrated because they ignored me (even though I know my hair best) and kept damaging my hair by doing several applications of bleach. It took me raising my voice to get them to pause and listen to me. And when I explained again that it would be easier to give me a haircut instead of trying to lighten my ends Ms. Q grabbed the scissors and without warning or asking at what length I would like my hair began chopping at my hair. When I exclaimed that she didn't ask what length I wanted, she then turned me to and asked "well what length do you want", I had to tell her to never mind because she already chopped off my hair on side of my head. I left and a month later went to a different salon to fix this school's mistakes. I understand this is a beauty school but if even the head hairstylist (who already should have their degree/ certificate and years of experience) can't properly do hair then it clearly indicates how terrible this place has become. honestly hope with all of my heart that they go out of business, the prices have gone up, the service has gone down, the head stylists are clearly in the wrong profession as well. I'm very sad to see a neighborhood staple go, but go it must.

Burns through my scalp.

I came in for a cut and blow dry. I paid $30 and my hair cut was amazing! I was there for less than two hours.

I had a wonderful experience at the Westchester Beauty school. The day I came to tour the school I…read morewas really looking for a change, Ms Jessica waited for me after I got out of work to let me look around the school and really explain everything. What stood out to me that night was how she said going to that school it was like becoming a member of their family, and for me that was very true. Like most girls I planned to go, learn my skills and get out. But I made life long friends, found true passion and was given the opportunity to explore to my hearts content, which really allowed me to fall in love with the beauty world. The teachers are great, and so are most of the clients. You get what you put in though. I passed my state board (both tests) on the first go around, and I felt very prepared. No one will set you up for your practical like Ms. Patty and you will see that on the day of your exam for sure. You have to plan to work hard. With great sacrifice comes great reward! Good luck!

I came to this location to get a deep conditioning treatment followed by a wash & set... I have…read morevery long and thick hair so I figured it would be good practice for the students as I've been to school salons before... I had visited the week before to get the info and prices... I returned the following week as I was told I'd need about 2-2.5 hours there... There was a heavy set man who assisted me and inquired about the pricing from an older brunette lady who told him the price... I actually was given a higher price than what I pay in my nor al salon for a wash & set which was surprising for a beauty school ($60) I entered and first impression is hiw old and deteriorated it looked... I almost wanted to walk out as the seats were in horrible condition and everything was either broken, falling apart or just looked so old as of it should be thrown out... this place needs a huge face-lift especially with the tuition that they are charging for such shambles... The students were just sitting around and talking... I was directed towards a very sweet woman but she barely spoke English so she didn't understand me... She proceeded to do my shampoo and she was great and then they used a basic salon conditioner as a "deep condition" as it smelled like cherries which is a dead giveaway and I had been informed that the conditioner was of a higher quality but it was not... she then placed me under the dryer for 15 mins and then removed the leave in and took me to her work area to do my rollers... she was about to put the rollers in without putting anything at all in my hair until I asked her about it and she went and got someone bc she didn't understand me... finally after her struggling to put one roller, another student came and helped her... she seemed to know what she was doing but the rollers were not tight and they were spritzing the hair with lottabody setting spray but the hair wasn't soaked which it needs to be when applying rollers... finally she finishes and puts the net and they try to fit me under a dryer that fits the rollers... 1.5 hours later ... im told they're done ans they take them out... the hair is not set at all and looks crazy when all the rollers are taken out... I tell them that I'm not at all happy about this and I finally settle for a blow dry by the one student who did my rollers... she seemed to know how to do a blow dry but then there was another student working on the other side of my head who was only blowing out mid shaft to the tips and never at the root so all of my hair was lumpy on the while right side when they tried to say okay you're done... not until I was like ummm, my whole right side of my head is all lumps and kinks so the girl blew it out... 4 HOURS LATER and there was not one teacher or professional helping these girls out or knew what to do... the older lady just kept saying well shee doesn't want to stay or there is nothing we can do about it... mot an apology, nothing... just a shoulder shrug, like oh well... Wow! Horrible experience and location... these girls are getting robbed because that's not a school where they're not leaning anything... The older folks need to have a better bedside manner to thise coming and spending their money here l, especially of you're charging $60 for no one knowing what they're doing. Do better by your students...

Today i went in for a color touch-up, something I had done about 6 times before. A dumpy, stocky, barrel of a woman in red lipstick started screaming me out for not know color codes. And not having a photograph of what was done in the past. What a nsaty attitude and a scream down in the middle of the salon. Reprimanding me about not knowing these are students and I SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO ASK FOR. Excuse me? I am paying $72 dollars for a service. Even if its student, I expect a bare minimum of service for my money. You are not doing clients a favor. Clients are doing you a favor to sit there for 5 hours so your students can make an absolute mess of their hair and then pay $72. Onto the students. The quality of students they have have zero competence. Again a bare minimum is expected when you charge $72. The students are so incompetent that they have no busienss even being students in any area. The school is doing a very poor job recruiting students. Most of the times you leave the insititute worse than you came in. The students dont give a rat's tail what they do. They are too much in a rush to sit and play with their iphones Lastly, they downright destroy your hair. During my blowdry she yanked so much of the hair out. I came out with a splitting headache. And after all this more of a surprise: A service that I expected to pay 50$ for came up to $62 plus 10$ tip. I could' ve gone to a professionals salon for this price. What a horrible experience. (you should've seen what they did to the client sitting next to me.)

They will consult and try to do their best with you. I'd recommend coming here for a simple service nothing complicated. They've since moved to a Brooklyn location much brighter and spacious than their previous SoHo space.

The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and approachable, which makes the learning environment very comfortable. Sobia is very knowledgeable and patient, and she takes the time to explain each procedure step-by-step so students can really understand both the theory and hands-on practice. I really appreciate how supportive they are -- they encourage questions and make sure everyone gets individual attention during practice. The school is clean, organized, and professional, and you can tell they genuinely care about their students' success. I feel much more confident in my skills because of the quality training I've received here. I would highly recommend this esthetic school to anyone who is interested in starting a career in skincare or wants strong practical experience with great instructors.

She scheduled me for classes starting Monday. However, on my very first day, I was told I could not attend class and could not take the English exam for the price I paid. She stated the $1,880 was only for the Chinese exam, and the English version would cost $3,500. This was never mentioned during enrollment after | clearly stated my needs. How could I possibly take a Chinese exam when I can't read the language? It's either a severe administrative failure or a deliberate trick to get people in the door. I have never seen a school treat a potential student with such disregard. Fortunately, received a refund, but the entire ordeal was a huge waste of time and energy. Be very careful and get everything in writing.

I truly can't think of anything that could have gone better. This is a school and if you have never…read morebeen to a beauty school please know that services can take longer than a traditional salon and it can be a hectic busy environment. That being said I know these things and the longer time for service is just more "me" time. This was my first visit to this specific location and I went in for a root touch up. DANIELLAAG was friendly and did a great job. Asking for help if needed and taking guidance when given. I felt comfortable in her chair. Added bonus is the valet service they provide. Very friendly and had my car waiting as I walked out which was top notch service in my opinion. I had a tip already out but now wish I would have tipped them more. Will definitely return when back in the area. Can't beat the prices for salon quality service!!

Overall I understand the students here are still learning, but based on my experience they had no…read moreidea what they were doing. They repeatedly told me they had not been trained in most things yet. I got a color and cut here. The color was not good, I got a simple black but they didn't dye the bottom of my head so the top is black and the bottom is dark brown. I asked them to put dye there and they said they didn't need to, which was incorrect. They also got some color on my ear which I had to wash off myself. Example of them not being trained enough: The stylist initially tried cutting 4 inches off my hair when I asked for a 1/2 inch trim. She also kept teasing my hair and then trying to comb it out, then making comments about how tangly it is. But teasing hair is what makes it tangled! When she tried brushing it out my hair broke due to the force. I literally had to tell her to stop or else I would leave. She hadn't even started cutting, but a lot of my hair was on the ground from it being broken off by her brushing. On a side note...their receptionist was also very difficult to work with. She said my handwriting was too small and made me write down my info 3 times. I am not sure what the issue is but she had a lot of difficulties reading even when I wrote in large caps. I had to call another receptionist over. The second receptionist apologized telling me the other receptionist lost her glasses and that's why she had trouble reading it. That's fine! But had the original receptionist said that, instead of blaming me for it, we could've handled it better.
