The technician who performed the scans was great. Very patient and tolerant. Great bedside manner. However, the problems occurred after. The psychiatrist referred to me by the wrong name in the post visit notes (this happened to me before with a non-Amen clinic provider to which I was told that the information was inadvertently sent to me instead of the intended patient. I understand mistakes happen and granted with two different providers but given that it happened to ME twice still a bit disconcerting)I contacted the assistant just to make sure at least the information provided was pertinent to me. The assistant contacted the psychiatrist who corrected the paperwork and resent it back to me... Next, I had to correct the same office multiple times regarding my home address. I told them initially that I might be moving/changing my address before the first appointment and during the transition told them to send any correspondence to a temporary address. However, it wasn't necessary to do that so I contacted that office to proceed with sending anything to my new address. Twice the kits were sent to the wrong address and then a third time however this last time the clinic said that they had no knowledge it. After doing some tracking apparently the testing company voluntarily sent another kit out without the Clinics knowledge. Um? Had a good appt with a functional medicine doctor (great personality) until I would not get a response back regarding follow up questions... after having sent multiple emails. The provider has two assistants and the one who usually responded would address only part of the question or not at all. Annoyed with this, I decided to reach out to the other to let her know. She followed up promptly with an apology and then SHE also went MIA! I got the impression that assistants and the doctor were no longer interested in helping me for whatever reason. I received an apology (but no explanation) from the clinical director and then the doctor. Either way, I was fed up. I have a history of conventional and now a growing list of holistic providers who have been a disappointment. I informed that clinic that unless I received the help I came to them for I would be seeking a refund. The clinic secretary suggested that I switch to a different doctor/clinic. I had reservations about continuing with Amen clinic overall as the entire process has been questionable but agreed to have a visit with a different functional medicine doctor at another clinic. The visit went well as far as I was concerned. The assistant was more helpful in terms of answering most questions however, I was not informed that the laboratory I was going to do was not able to do testing requested by this doctor. During the visit, the doctor had actually mentioned this particular lab by name and after checking with my insurance, I had no reason to believe that they did not do this particular testing. The assistant had already provided me a list of places to go to for other testing but not so with this one. I took time off of work. In the email response the oversight was not acknowledged but instead an offer to help me find another lab. Why didn't you inform me of the correct lab in the first place?? I really was taken aback by with the lack of organization, communication and seemingly uncaring nature of most involved but I still needed/wanted a functional medicine practitioner . I reached out to the secretary and asked if the doctor would mind writing a brief statement regarding a vaccination at my workplace in light of my autoimmune condition and the secretary just stated that he would not do with no explanation.... When I first started this process I told the psychiatrist (mentioned previously) that if this did not work out, I will not be seeking additional help elsewhere as I have been on a search for help, understanding, competent and compassionate guidance for almost 20 years.Amen Clinics provided lots of information based on their assessments but that is all I have...information and no trusted provider to help guide me through it and provide treatment. I read some negative reviews but did not want that to affect my experience and wanted to give the highly esteemed Amen Clinics a chance. My mistake...a big expensive, time consuming one. My experience with Amen Clinic in Chicago has been life changing. I had been struggling for several years. In 2021 I was in a bad motorcycle accident and then started into perimenopause. My anxiety, lack of motivation and depression increased to a level that was often completely paralyzing. I have always been adamant that I would never go on prescription medication. Amen was recommended to me by a couple of different family members. I was skeptical but finally got to the point where I admitted to myself that I needed some outside help. What helped make the final decision was a video that I saw of Dr. Amen explaining that it was odd that we test and track all the other organs in our body in an effort to improve our health: heart, lungs, liver, kidney, etc. but we never focus on or test the most important part of us - our brain. I must admit I was a bit nervous about this place and like many others I did research and of course came across negative reviews that made me more nervous I still decided to go ahead with our scheduled appointments and I am glad we did. First of all we do live in the Chicago land area so it was not a hard search to find Amen clinics, talked to a few friends got a referral to see Dr. Julie McLaughlin in Lake Bluff Il and she referred us over to Amen Clinics. I know that the cost is a bit on the high side for folks who don't have that extra $$ lying around but when I think about it the cost is nothing compared to the care and attention my son received my family really appreciated the non invasive approach to his wellness and recovery nothing compared to when we saw a regular Dr. who sent us over to the ER then therapy who then wanted to start medicating him immediately I mean how can you treat something you can't see?? that's why our kids and our generations end up with more problems than they started with in the beginning. for anyone out their considering this last approach I say last because Insurance does not cover the expenses so its sort of a leap of faith I say to You ...DO IT...JUMP IN...TRY IT...what have you got to lose? your wellness/happiness/peace of mind is worth more than anything, everyone deserves to have peace at least in their Brain life is hard enough to be dragging extra baggage. I seldom ever leave reviews, but I feel strongly about leaving one for this business. I wanted to go so badly for well over a year, and finally my mom made my wish become a reality. I am a data person; I feel VERY strongly about looking at the brain to identify what is really malfunctioning. This is truly necessary before trying to prescribe the countless amount of medications that may be helpful or harmful depending on the psychiatrist's choice, which is based solely on the patients' described symptoms. This is what Amen Clinics does that is SO GREAT. They perform brain testing, and they do that SPECT scan (two of them, actually) that look at brain function. The staff is incredibly caring, organized, helpful, and truly invested in the outcomes of their patients. The summary of your visit and the treatment possibilities / recommendations are all laid out on paper before you leave. My doctor, Dr. Easton, answered every single one of my questions. If you are considering this very efficient, diagnostic process, I highly recommend you go through with it. Over the course of the last two years I have had to add many different providers to my care team. It has been a very stressful time, just to mention a few; two eye surgeries on left eye. many, many falls, spills, etc, including head injuries repeatedly. therefore, my balance is horrible, and I suffered with vertigo, chronic fatigue, memory loss, depression, and the list goes on. I have been with the Amen Clinic for 2 years. It took so much for me to reach out to them but I'm so thankful I did and, I had the resources to do so. I truly wish everyone could experience this type of care. There would be a lot less devastation, grief and suffering and a lot more understanding, care and hope. As an RN for the past 42 years, I give the highest marks for everyone at the Amen Clinic. The location is convenient and beautiful, and they have gone out of their way to provide a relaxing, soothing environment. The entire SPECT scan process is easy and painless. It does make you wonder how other MD's treat a brain without actually seeing it. The entire staff is caring, patient centered and very professional. Definitely not worth the $6k. Nothing my assigned doctor told me was anything different that what you wan easily hear on YouTube listen to Dr Amen speak. It did not feel customized as all. As a doctor myself who works very hard to make sure we error on the side of extra customer service - this clinic and it's policies are the opposite. For example. I had a call set upi with the dcotore - you get so many included - I called the number given to me only to get a recording that said the office was closed. Then they couldn't accept that the wrong number may have been given to my assistant so they wanted to charge me another $300 to even schedule the next makeup appointment. Then I referred my mother there and after I expressed my discontent with the doctor assigned me - they assigned the same doctor to my mother against my request. I am a Health Coach and specialize in working with kids with ADD/ADHD. My husband played in the NFL and went into the Amen Clinics to do a SPECT scan and go through the study. I decided to have my son's brain scanned and also go through the program because he has had ADD ever since we can remember. It was FASCINATING! Having the ability to see the brain and WHY they both did things and acted in certain ways was such a relief. After collecting all the data (brain scans, background, review of any prior reports, testing results,etc)...the Amen Clinic staff (led by Dr Creado) created a three phase program to deal with a traumatic brain injury I suffered 4 years ago.
