I enjoyed my visit to tea room, located in the Alvear Palace Hotel. We were seated just outside…read morethe garden sun room because of my elderly guest who lacked mobility and needed more light. We ordered two regular tea menus and also ordered a couple side items. Everyone enjoyed the food. The scones were served warm. The tea sandwiches were cute as tasty (though ham heavy which is typical in Argentina). The final cakes were rich and tasty. I enjoyed the apple tart, which came with raisins. The chocolate cake was tasty and had strong coffee flavors. The tea selection was limited to traditional teas, not so much fruity flavors. I like that. The service was exceptional. That's a rarity in Argentina. I'll likely try going back to restaurants in this hotel because the caliber of service is likely to remain. Ooh and keep in mind that Tuesday reservations will be easier to make and el include the glass of bubbly for the same price as the regular tea.

It had been many years since my initial visit to L'Orangerie. I had great memories of the art deco…read moreroom, with high ceilings and iron work. We arrived for a 2p lunch and the room was lovely. The menu consisted of a cold buffet and menu items of the day. My friends ordered the buffet and 2 of us ordered the 'Loma de Pesca'. Our fish order showed up 20 minutes later as sliced filets of Lomo de Res. The waiter was profusely apologetic and stated his mind confused the meat with the fish. 35 minutes later, still no fish, but complimentary glasses of champagne for the delay. At the 45 minute mark, the fish arrived. More apologies and we noted the sauce on the fish had already congealed, so it had been sitting awhile. Coffee with some complimentary dessert bites. Sadly, the elegance and service I remembered was very much lacking. As a 'bonus', 20 minutes after leaving L'Orangerie, someone charged $1200 USD on plane tickets to Chile on the CC I had just used at the restaurant.
