I've always loved shopping at this Aldi, but my experience at checkout today left me feeling more…read moreuncomfortable than I ever have in a grocery store line. On a busy Saturday afternoon, there was only one checkout lane open, and the cashier seemed flustered as the line grew. I was patient, kind, and even reassured him when a mistake required calling a manager--I told him it was okay, because I could see he was stressed. Despite that, he never acknowledged me, wouldn't make eye contact, and was cursing under his breath while working. The entire interaction felt tense and unpleasant, and it left me not wanting to run into him again. Even the woman behind me in line stopped me in the parking lot to say she was baffled by his behavior. I hate to say this, because I truly do love this store, but it may be a while before I come back. The checkout experience matters, and this one was very strange and disappointing.

I stopped here today to get some ice cream. I had never been to Kline's and was anxious to try it…read more I was a bit surprised that they only offered five different kinds of ice cream. The girl working there was very friendly and let me try the Dubai chocolate, which to me just tasted like plain chocolate. I ended up getting a cup of the vanilla ice cream based on her recommendation. Their ice cream is more like frozen custard and it's made daily. I found the consistency to be a little runny and thin and not as creamy as other frozen custards I've had before, but the vanilla flavor was really good. Although this wasn't my favorite ice cream, it's still a good option if you're in the area.

While my food is being prepared with the magic and love, I got to converse with both of the beautiful souls that own the shop. They sell a large bag of Jack fruit that is really good for quick vegan meals. I ran out and will be back for another bag because it's something unique that cannot be obtained at the local supermarkets. At the Powhatan Festival of the Grapes I got to try a couple of dishes from Barham Seafood. We had their crabcake sandwich and fried oysters with a side of fries. The crabcake was amazing!!! It was fried with a soft crisp like I like and the inside was a crabcake lovers dream. I could taste crab in every bit with the right amount of seasoning. The fried oysters where chefs kiss. They where crispy on the outside and cooked just right on the inside. All I can say is that I will be finding my way to their location for a second try.

Admission is definitely on the expensive side--especially if you go on a Thursday like we did--since about 85% of the activities older kids want to enjoy weren't operating. The food stations were closed. (We scored a great rate on Groupon for tickets) We did get to enjoy the beautiful pumpkin patch and sunflower field, but my oldest was disappointed that the bounce house and corn cannon weren't available. Overall, it was a lovely first-time experience for my mom and youngest child, but my oldest and I left feeling a bit let down.

Don't be fooled by your GPS, you will drive an additional 3-5 minutes to get to the strawberry picking portion. We timed it so we would arrive right when it opened. It was easy to find a place to park. They give you cute red buckets to put your strawberries in (you get to keep the bucket). We spent about 30 minutes picking strawberries. The berries they have here are HUGE! There were also a lot to choose from when we went. You are charged by how heavy your basket is. I'd highly recommend checking this farm out. It's a great place to bring little ones too.
