My fiancé and I saw a movie here on Easter Sunday. We go to the movies only a few times a year, so it was a treat! The theatre itself was very clean. Not only did the seats recline, but I realized in the middle of the movie they were also heated! I've never seen or experienced that before. Staff at the concession stand were friendly. A large popcorn and soda was $24, which is pretty reasonable. The popcorn was yummy; there's just something about movie theatre popcorn. There's a lot of parking available too. Came back over the holidays to see Wicked: For Good with her friend and son! This theater is one of my favs and always has the merch. I didn't get any although it was tempting. They featured the Wicked drinks in the fountain soda machines. The popcorn was popping and we went to see the wizard. We went after all the hype died down, so it was nice to have the theater to ourselves. They offered maybe different showings, but we went with the classic one. All around a good experience and will happily meet people here for a flick! read more

We visited opening night Jurassic World Rebirth. Pre buying tickets is definitely the way to go to reserve seats you're satisfied with. We opted for the regular version (not 3-D). The movie itself was fabulous, the poor movie etiquette of the person sitting next to me I could have lived without. Comments about everything and on his phone, this was an adult like grow up man. The actual facility was mediocre. In that if you're trying to be impressed at this place or going for that exciting vibe, you won't be. It's plain Jane, nothing wrong with that. The atmosphere was tame. There was a bar available and concessions. My friend used the bathroom and said it was dirty. It was around 8 o'clock on a Wednesday night, I feel like they could have done better. Walking into the actual theater (6), it was warm, muggy and dank. I thought maybe because we arrived before the show time the AC would amp up later... it did not. There were also 35 minutes worth of advertisements and previews. Here's the Scoop: My honey & I haven't gone to the movies in a while. So we decided since we were at one of our favorite diners for a late breakfast that we would check out what was playing at the movies that we would like to see. The movie "Sinners" was playing at 12:30 pm. OMGoodness! This movie was well produced and directed. The main actor Michael B Jordan and the cast was awesome! The movie was thought provoking and scary. It was about 2 hrs long. I enjoyed it thoroughly. just being at the movies with my honey, Comfortable seating, clean, the sound effects, vibrating seats and popcorn. A win, win! Heated / cooled seats ? Amazing ! My first time at this theater, I appreciated them not having a cut off to go into the movie because we were running late. Reasonably priced tickets. They have a bar available in addition to the usual concession stand which is a nice touch. The bathrooms need to be serviced more frequently. Gross!!!!! read more

Downgrading my review. I left Stubs because there were just too many times I'd go see a movie here and drunk or loud people absolutely ruined the movie. The Dolby Cinema is still fantastic, just wish they had more conscientious customers or could keep them in check. read more

Was always a regular here every weekend until I had to move back to the city. Tickets are definitely cheaper here than the city. You can get matinee tickets for half the original ticket price for any showing before 12pm. Recliner seats are red and comfortable and can go all the way down. I always pick the seats in the last row so more privacy and nobody behind my back. Concession stand is the best when it comes to chicken tenders and curly fries. Chicken tenders are very moist and crispy! They give a lot of curly fries! So much that you cannot finish it all! I always get a medium soda that can be shared with another person and it is enough to last for a 2 hour movie. Popcorns are somewhat salty and butter is optional. There are bathrooms all around you since the movie theater is very big and spacious. read more

Recently I Princess Mononoke was coming out in imax and this is the only theater in the area with it. So i decided to skip seeing since this theater is pure garbage. It is honestly my least favorite theater I have ever gone to. Almost every time i would go something would go wrong. Last time I went, i was going to see jay and silent bob reboot and they started playing jay and silent bob strike back. People went and complained and they told us they didn't have the movie so they just played that instead. So without trying to tell us this, they just said screw it. Pure bait and switch. Had to wait in a 45 minute line to get my refund because they only bothered to put one person on the returns. Another horrible time was when there was some high schoolers making a bunch of noise and this manager at the time came to me and started yelling at me. I told him off and i could see how red he was getting because i dared talk back to him when i did nothing wrong. A, it wasn't me who was yelling and B, the movie hadn't even started yet and he was threatening to kick me out. Terrible place. Terrible people. I make it a point to not go there. I have gone to theaters over 45 minutes away for certain special screenings rather than going here. I have even gone to NYC, taking the train for the hour and a half ride from ronkonkoma, to go a theater rather than the 10 minute drive to this theater. Don't bother with this theater. You will only be made to feel like a fool and be given a crappy attitude. read more

Place looks totally different. I haven't been in years. Totally revamped the lobby, ticket 'booth' & seating in the theaters. Honestly it looks good. Seats were comfortable and reclining which is nice. Only reason I took a star off is the price for concessions is absolutely absurd.. Better off bringing your own food and drinks. read more

This place has come a LONG way in the last few years. For the first chunk to fine this location has been opened it's been mired by being outdated, dirty and with lackluster staffing. Now the renovations have really made some major improvements first the place has got a modern and cleaner facelift inside; from the bar that serves some pretty decent albeit pricey drinks and the all new concessions area which has been moved to the back wall facing the entrance making it not as awkward to order. Then there's the rooms themselves from the IMAX to Dolby theatres with all rooms having reclining and well padded seats with a table. Some rooms even have heated and cooled seats (which I wish every theatre room would get. Staff in my recent visits have been a bit more friendly and place is generally much cleaner than in years past, glad to say they've one upper Regal for me which I find is starting to fall behind AMC now. read more

This movie theater is very large and it has a decent amount of different theaters which is good. The snack bar is a little expensive though.

Saw a 9:15pm showing of heretic (R rated horror movie) last night and there was a baby no more than 6 months old cooing through out the whole movie. I think amc policy is no children under 6 after 6pm for R rated movies, even with adults accompanying them. Ruined the entire movie and there's no management to be found afterwards. Sadly there's always an issue when coming here, but this will be our last time making the mistake of visiting. read more

Been going here for years. The renovations are nice and make the lobby a LOT less cluttered than it was. The old concessions stand was a joke and it felt very cramped. Despite this I miss the late 90s aesthetics and the arcade machines that have since been removed. So... after years of delay, they finally updated the seats in every theater. If you're seeing a regular movie, then you will not be disappointed because they recline nearly all the way and have heated seat features. HOWEVER, if you are seeing an IMAX movie, the reclining seats are much inferior. It's like a tease. They barely recline and are much less comfortable; if you are seeing a 3 hour movie like Oppenheimer then good luck because you will probably be uncomfortable. The dolby cinema seats are somewhat better but they both share the same reclining issue. Honestly, I will go to island 16 for IMAX films from now on. read more

10 years ago I wrote a review for AMC, after this weekend I knew I had to write an update. This is our hometown AMC. My sons? Now have girlfriends and don't want to hang out with me. Wifee? She doesn't like the movies, so I'm the lone wolf with a bucket of popcorn. Josh G wrote a two star review and made me aware of the theatre. I took my kids here Thanksgiving Day to see Toy Story, now I'm looking at this jacked up theatre with no reclined seat or surround sound, this place suckkks... I start going on Friday afternoons to Garden City AMC, they have an escalator? Awesomeness. Until now. I booked a Sunday 7am movie to see the Avengers in Dolby sound. Me personally, the 3D thing is starting to get on my nerves. I thought Dolby was the regular vanilla showing. Or so it seems. Walking it, I smell fresh carpeting? I turn the corner and see reclining seating? What movie magic is happening in Stony Brook? Now the movie starts. It seems the Dolby theatre is lit for Dolby Surround Sound! I mean, even the seats are vibrating! I am *loving* both the movie and the Dolby sound. Each seat has a tray which is a little much. The seat controls have 4 settings, I had to use my phone flashlight to figure it all out. I dialed in the seat settings and starting watching the movie in total surround sound. Heaven. Think about it, Garden City & Lake Grove both have Shake Shack but who has better pizza close by? Garden City **SUCKS** for pizza so after the movie it's AMC Lake Grove for the win! And don't tell me about Ronkonkoma or Island 16 where I grew up. I mean, they don't have a 5 Guys on the south shore! AMC in Stony Brook Seawolves with Dolby surround sound for the total win. The theater is making a come back since they are finally renovating it. The renovations are still ongoing, but some things are complete. All the seats now recline and are heated. The sinks in the bathroom were redone. But there are still a lot of things that need to be remodeled. The manager here is very rude as well as the workers at the concessions. Back again after a few months away. Appearance continues to improve. Lobby renovations look to be 99% complete. And every theater we've been inside has been renovated. Concessions area was included in the remodel but still only offers the basics, not the full menu like at the Huntington Dine-In location. Highly recommend subscribing to A List and visiting both locations often. read more

I truly love cinema. Watching and talking about movies is a dangerous thing to do with me because I might not shut up. Luckily, during a movie I'll be pretty quiet, even if the establishment I'm watching said film isn't anything special (at all). Enter AMC Loews Stony Brook 17. This isn't one of my usual movie-going spots (I'm a Nassau boy), but my girlfriend has SB17 in her rolodex of possible locations for a viewing. Honestly, our real reason for going was to use a gift card she had had for quite a while. It was my second time here and gift card or not, it left me wanting so much more. Maybe I've gotten spoiled by reclining seats and improved sound, but SB17 is still living in the 90's (but like a bad 90's). Nothing has really been updated inside or out and it shows. Sure, I like the classic movie posters on the walls, but the way they're presented almost adds to the outdated feel of the place instead of giving it any prestigiousness. I have a carbon copy theater by me (AMC Loews Raceway) which basically looks and feels the same...and it's rarely a spot I choose. Like I said, we only chose SB17 because of the GF's gift card, and of course the day we go, there's a sign on the door saying the systems are down and they can't accept any gift cards at this time. So my lady goes on to her phone and tries to buy them online, but her gift card is a little older and so it can only be redeemed at the theater...really? Luckily, she also had a few free movie tickets so we were actually able to use those without any dilemmas. Once inside with tix, the third member of our party went to purchase some pretzel bites before going into the theater. You would've thought they were hand rolling them in the back! 10-15 minutes passed by and it was about movie time and still no pretzel bites and no one to ask. It wasn't a busy afternoon either so what was this employee doing back there? Just then, he emerged with the bites and we finally rushed over to our theater. Now I don't have to have a recliner or any kind of surround sound, but the theater just screams makeover. As I already mentioned, it's outdatedness is more sad than vintage. Luckily the movie went along without any screen problems and such, but I'm good. Overall, I know this spot is a frequenter for many of my Yelp clan, but I can't say I'd want to come back. With other theaters near my girlfriend, I'd greatly prefer a film at Ronkonkoma or Island 16. I could be back though, because I'm a man of movie times and if it works, I'll go. Otherwise? That's a wrap for me at SB17. read more

I have been to many movie theaters but this one is the land of No... everything was no from our first interaction... we had just bought Starbucks (which in other theaters is not a problem) Not allowed. Can I use Apple Pay? No.. Can I protect my credit card information with Chip? ... No. then I was made to wait for my receipt while they struggled with the printer. Just a curt handing of the tickets and we were on our way.... to a theater that smelled old and looked older. A short 25 minutes (sarcastic) of previews and we were finally on our way towards enjoying the movie. Seats were uncomfortable. When we were leaving we were told we couldn't leave by the exit we wanted to leave until we explained we were simply trying to exit the theater. Image shows the stock price history... which after this experience makes perfect sense. Needless to say we will actively look to stay with the other theater options to frequent. read more

I visited this AMC theater twice last weekend. Once for a premium event and the other for a opening night movie. Customer Service at this location is abysmal. No expensive renovation will cover up management's ignorance. For the event: I complained to management that the live video feed was shut off during the main event. We missed the ending, and all of the aftermath. The manager blamed us for not alerting him earlier. Forgive the entire theater for not realizing it was management incompetence and not a technical error. I guess that's our fault? For the movie: We walked into a fist fight in the lobby. Management seemed clueless about how to handle it. During the movie drunk idiots were acting out of control. Maybe your bar staff should learn went to cut people off. Regal or Showcase can't take over this location fast enough. read more

So busy having fun that I messed up and didn't check the reviews for this place. It's very old school retro designs and in need of some TLC. The people here are nice and they have a security guard on deck. The IMAX room smells a little funky like they keep puppies here and they've been pissing on the carpet...and it's been cleaned but you still smell a little puppy urine. The seats are the standard old school seats, not uncomfortable but they look run down. The design and the seats don't bother me too much but the smell...I could do with out. This is a tough one. I want to give it more stars because I love being an A-List member... however, it's just not one of their nicest theaters, or even the nicest theater in the area. It could use an update. And to be cleaned better. Overall, the screens are okay and the sound is decent, though I have noticed some bleed-through in some of the smaller auditoriums. We like to go when it's less busy, but even then it's not always the cleanest place. My biggest complaint is really the seats. Because they haven't been updated to anything resembling a recliner, they're a little crowded feeling and just uncomfortable. Especially when it's a popular movie in one of the smaller theaters. Leg room is sparse, and I'm not a tall person by any means. The staff is friendly and mostly helpful, and like I said, we enjoy being members... I just wish we had more AMC theaters in this area and that this one specifically would get an update. read more

If I could give this place a negative I so would this place is horrible the service is bad and the workers are very disrespectful me and my kids went to go see inside out 2 and we payed extra for the "special" theater and it was the same and we went to go get the special light up inside up cup and they said it was sold out but I saw at least 5 on the shelve the workers are very snotty and have a very big attitude. I've been coming to this location for the better part of 10 years, mostly because of the convenience of the location, but due to a most recent visit, I think I may be considering skipping this place until they upgrade. It's time folks. So on this particular visit, I came to the morning movies with my kids. The kids had to use the bathroom, so we went in there first. The floor was wet, there was a leak coming from the ceiling, and moldy ceiling tiles show that this is not an uncommon problem. The same urinal appears to be out of commission since the Bush presidency. The stalls are gross and there's a general stickiness to the surface of the Formica surfaces. Ok, so I'm with my kids and they want to get some stuff from the ultra expensive concession stand. So we get some popcorn and drink cups, because this location has the self service fountain soda machines where you can choose your flavors....cool...or so I thought. So there's approximately 6 of these soda machines....on this visit there were two of them barely working. On one side, the entire bank was out. You couldn't use them. On the other side, two out of the three machines were working. However, when we used one of them, it went on the fritz mid soda fill. Really? So now that there's only one working soda machine, a line has formed. Why? There should be six working soda machines, but there aren't. Ok, so after we waited and got our sodas, we make our way into the theater. Now I'm starting to look for things that are wrong...and sure enough, there's a flickering light in the walkway into the theater....yes, I'm nitpicking now, but you got me looking for things now folks. So we sit down in a row of four old and tired seats..and the lights dim and the projector starts...movie time was 930am. So we see an advertisement for AMC Theaters where they show a theater with a bar and power reclining seats...my son says he wants to sit in a reclining seat...I tell him good luck, they don't exist at this location. Then we proceed to watch SEVEN PREVIEWS.....the kids are growing restless..."when is the movie going to start, dad??" Good question. It's ridiculous that a 930am movie actually doesn't start until 955am due to all the nonsense were forced to watch beforehand. That doesn't really speak to the state of the theater, but it does speak to the experience. There are far more advanced theaters in the area that "get it" and provide the movie goer with a decent experience. In this day and age when it's easy to "find" a movie on the internet, you need to do whatever it takes to get the movie-goers into the theaters. However, this location has hit rock bottom and it's time for a total renovation to bring it up to par. Until then, I'll be skipping coming here in favor of the more modern theaters in the area. read more
