Or if I needed to come home. Since I was not able to jump on a plane and come home easily, it was a comfort to know when it was necessary to do so and when it wasn't. Having Egis on our side was like having reliable family members to be there with my Mother, when I couldn't. I truly felt she was getting the best professional home care possible from truly caring humans and not just another institution. Our family was so happy with Sierra Vista's care for our Mother. We brought Mom to Sierra Vista in…read moreearly Feb 2019 and she passed away in Dec 2020 just before Christmas. Since I live in Santa Fe, I was able to visit Mom on a regular basis. The staff was always so accommodating. I learned the routine for best time blocks to visit - but would always call 1st. And they would always cheerfully welcome my visit. Sometimes I would linger in the hallway just to watch my Mother with the staff person who was assisting her - always my Mother and the Staff person would be eyeball to eyeball, smiling at each other. I know my Mother responded to that loving energy she felt from ALL the staff. They were very kind to our family and I always felt welcomed and reassured that my Mother was receiving the very highest level of care. Because the kitchen prep area was visible from the dining area and my visits were in the afternoon as the kitchen staff was preparing the evening meal - I could see the fresh vegetables and how the meal was being made from scratch - and the aromas were so delicious. We got to know the other residents and their families and join in various celebrations. We celebrated my Mother's 96th BD! Very Fun! It was always like a big family get together. I know my Mother enjoyed it. In her last year Covi d emerged. For a long while, the staff wasn't having family visits but when I would call they would give me daily reports and put a phone to Mom's ear so she could hear my voice. They then afterwards described to me my Mother's expressions as we were on the phone together. The staff was so generous and gracious with Mom and our family at that time. Midway in that 1st Covid year my Mother's energy level began to wane. In the late Fall for several weeks they offered to allow me in, had me dress in PPS gowns, mask & gloves so I could see Mom and sit with her as she had become non-communicative. She liked having me rub lotion on her arms and I could see in her eyes she was responding. As concern about Covid elevated, in-person visits had to end. Later as our Mother was approaching her time for passing, the staff would daily update me/us on her condition. On what turned out to be Mom's last day, I had scheduled a phone call, but she passed before then. The staff told me my 1st Cousin had called in earlier while Mom was still with us, so I was able to speak with him later and was comforted by what he had said to our Mother that must have been very comforting to her. I want this very long piece to demonstrate the abundance of sensitivity and competence the entire staff showed to our Mother and to the other residents I observed when I would be visiting there. BTW, "Their Love Energy" was the only language that mattered to my English-only speaking Mother.

3 years later I still grieve the way Sierra Vista handled my mother's death. When she was clearly…read moresick they still insisted that we leave by the end of visiting hours at 5, which when you work full-time is extremely restrictive. The director insisted that Mom was not dying, and that "she is never wrong." Finally the night Mom passed, the director admitted that she is going into transition and said a few of us at a time could stay with her! Minutes after my 3 sisters left, Mom went into high fever and erratic pulse. There was no medial staff to assist. Moments later she died. Mom had been gurgling with her breathing due to fluid in the lungs. The staff insisted that she was better off staying there and the hospital wouldn't be able to do much about the fluid (which isn't true!) Clearly it was causing Mom distress. I deeply regret that I listened to their urging and didn't take Mom to the hospital, where she would have been made comfortable and we could have had unlimited visitation. St. Vincent hospital now has beautiful private rooms, I so wish we had taken her there! Also, they really skimped on the Hospice team. Instead of getting the full treatment of doctor, nurse, and several other support staff, we had ONE nurse, who could barely walk and was hardly available. I missed the last week with my mom, and she missed a chance for a peaceful, comfortable passing. Other issues: for the price you pay, the food is HORRIBLE! It is a lot like a school cafeteria, even worse, with things like chicken nuggets and canned corn. The Montecito has gourmet food made by a Europe-trained chef. As there are so few pleasures left to these elders with dementia, how can you shortchange them on food? It should be healthy and tasty! Not full of inflammatory ingredients (Alzheimer's is an inflammation disease and the recommended diet is anti-inflammatory food). In addition, most of the year and a half my mom was there there was NO ACTIVITY person. People were hired every few months and then soon left. One really good person who the residents loved was fired because he challenged the management's attitude of warehousing unto death. The place is pretty, the animals are nice (though abused!), and the aides very nice. However, most didn't speak English, so the confused elders had even more confusion and loneliness. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE if you want to have a quality life for your loved one and all the time with them you need.

Not once have we felt the care was anything but superb. The stress relief provided by Anvoi makes the process a bit more tolerable. We have only praise for the Anvoi staff for their professional dedication, training, caring, and empathy not only for the patient but for the family care givers as well. Their compassion and understanding is evident in each visit. The dedicated nursing assistant, nurse, social worker,and chaplin constantly offer words of encouragement, offer progress analysis with each three times a week bath, carry on a conversation with the patient, get an occasional laugh from her, ordering her medications, provide supplies even before we may need them. The service goes well beyond our expectations. Our nursing assistant assigned to our mother 0 far exceeds what we expected. She is exceptional. Our nurse is outstanding. I cared for an elderly friend of mine who needed 24/7 assistance. I hired Nurses with Heart to…read morecare for her, so I knew she would have someone constantly with her to feed, bathe, clothe, and take care of all her needs. She was in her 90's, and had dementia. Not only was Nurses with Heart there to make sure she lived her best life during her final years, they were there until the end, and I do mean end. I got the call at 3am in the morning that my friend had passed. Not only did the owner of Nurses with Heart meet me there, she let her caregiver go home, and stayed with me until the funeral home assistants arrived. Carolyn Moore the owner, myself, and the two funeral assistants carried my friend down to the stretcher because the elevator to her apartment in the assisted living facility was too small to accomodate the stretcher. No one at the assisted living facility could be found to help. It was quite a journey, believe me from beginning to end, and Carolyn was there all the way. If you are looking for a company that truly cares, has compassion, great caregivers, and does exactly what they say they will do, you will want Nurses with Heart to care for your loved ones. Carolyn and co-owner Alise are fantastic! Santa Fe and Los Alamos are fortunate to have them in their communities.

The company did not address our needs as a client and has sent whoever they found. We had to apply a lot of extra effort to find care takers within the company that would make a good fit for our needs. The management and the owner are difficult to communicate with, and what's worse -- has inappropriately laughed on the phone during a serious conversation over serious matters and urgent concerns. The company has not been helpful in a time of crisis when services were needed most. This has caused an immense level of stress for our family and loved one. That being said, I gave this company two stars because some of the care takers are actually good at their job and attentive to their client. I hope they continue to work in the field of senior care. Overall, however, I would not recommend this company for the price they charge for their services. I highly recommend doing a thorough research when looking for care for your dear loved one.

Since the initial phone call I made to start services for my dad I have been treated with utmost respect and have made me feel cared for. They have been very flexible and patient with my dad who can be stubborn and needs constant care. I have no experience with senior care and Comfort Keepers has helped me to learn how to get the best care for my dad who is suffering from dementia. All of the caregivers that have been caring for my dad have been very professional, they were competent and kind.
