Although Mother was in the Independent Living section, she was still cared for by staff - on a few occasions, they noticed changes in Mom's behavior and contacted us. This was life saving. We were so impressed with the staff - they were attentive, patient, helpful and most of all, kind. We had 100% confidence that Mother was in a safe, welcoming environment Most importantly, Mom was so happy there. She enjoyed the food, loved her apartment, and appreciated all of the activities and the many amenities such as the hair salon, exercise room/classes, church services and shuttle. And the wonderful residents were so warm and friendly. Mom developed many cherished friendships over the years. We felt so fortunate to have Mom living in such a fine facility that was actually affordable for the average person. Once my friend began showing beginning stages of dementia and they had just opened their new Alzheimers Unit and hired a new Alzheimers Unit Director There was discussion of moving /transferring my friend to that Unit. An available room (Shared with a roommate) became open and needed filled; the roommate could not have pets, my elderly friend had a beloved cat, she has had this cat for years, the cat was her life, her companion and friend she had to give her beloved pet up - transfer day was hideous and the emotional effect it had on me and her is still lasting. They did not prepare her for the transfer...just moved her suddenly and very abrupt, began moving her things (the Director and the Manger) physically moving her items (her paintings) ect which was a shock to the system of my friend, once they took her to her new unit and while she is sitting there in tears they told her she could not have her cat, at this point I am trying to comfort by friend who has always been strong and independent in her decisions, the way they told her was rude and callous "you cannot have your cat anymore honey, you know the cat is over weight and you have not done a good job of taking care of her " I was enraged!!! and yes I began to step in and voice my opinion on the harshness of their words and their lack of comfort at a transistion time which was crucial to the well being of my friend. Because I was enraged and very unhappy with this transistion they called my friends family member who has not seen nor visited my friend in nearly 2 years, the family member asked them to ask me to leave but also wanted me to take the cat because she did not want anything to do with it. The director's and myself upon returning to elderly friends old room had a few words , I will never forget them telling me "You don't know her" and questioning my knowledge of my dear friend- I told them more about her than anyone knew and knew what needed to be moved to her room, I knew what made her comfortable and what she loved the most, 1 of which was the cat!! I have a huge thumbs down for this Assisted Living Facility and would not recommend it. The transfer was hasty, messy and uncareing, inconsiderate and pushy.

My husband had several medical issues which caused him to spend time in all four currently open…read morerehabilitation facilities in C-U and i have to say this one is the worst of the four. The rooms are very small and need improvement as my husband's room had red stains on a wall, a hand-crank hospital bed with no side rail to help him get up, nothing on the walls, no chairs (we borrowed one from the dining room, but that's not good for someone with balance issues, and their brochure said you could bring one from home or rent one if you want one), a beat-up dresser and nightstand, a small TV, and a low toilet (which was replaced during his stay). The facility has one common room which is primarily a dining room. There was no comfortable place outside of patient rooms for patients to gather. They appeared to have very few rehab patients and most of the patients I saw were capable of limited communication and movement are were there for the long-term. It makes for a depressing atmosphere for those who are there for the short term. The only organized activity I saw in the month he was there was a Valentine's Day pizza party. I saw no posted activities or menus, things their literature said one should look for when evaluating a nursing home. While some of the staff were very nice and helpful, some of the CNA's were not. For example, my husband had arthritis in his hands and a CNA refused to open a milk carton for him because she declared he could do it himself and should do so since he was a rehab patient. He couldn't open it so he couldn't drink the milk. The staff never told him their daily expectations for him or told him he had to do anything, but instead just asked him if he wanted to. For example, when asked if he wanted to do his therapy now and he said he was tired and wanted to do it later he was written up for being non-compliant with his therapy. For the first two weeks he was there he was never told there were consequences of not doing what he was asked or that it was a problem for the therapists that he wanted a delay because they only got paid for the time they actually did therapy. He'd assumed, incorrectly, that they would just do therapy with another patient first. The end result was that they reported to Medicare that he was non-compliant with his therapy and wasn't making fast enough progress toward his goals so Medicare cut him off after two weeks. It didn't matter that he needed a knee replacement (I took him to a doctor to arrange the surgery after he left the facility) which made it difficult and painful for him to walk and make the progress they wanted. We decided to appeal Medicare's decision and they promised to back me on that now that he knew a request was an order, it was still unsafe for him to be at home, and he was finally more mobile (he was bedridden with a back injury from a fall when he arrived). They still claimed that can't tell anyone in long-term care that they have to do anything and wouldn't differentiate rules between short-term and long-term care in interpreting the rules. Medicare turned down our appeal, so I have to question how good their backing was. I requested a copy of his medical records for a final appeal on April 28 and have yet to receive them. By comparison, I requested his medical and ambulance records the same week and received them within a few days. Their delay meant I didn't have their records before the deadline for our final Medicare appeal. The bottom line--be forewarned about requests being requirements if you end up here, bring stuff to make the room less dreary, and don't expect them to back you if you need to make an appeal to Medicare. I know this is very long, but I wish we had been forewarned or want to pass it forward. This place is on the local approved rehab facilities list and the hospital staff aren't allowed to give opinions of any of the places on their list. We had only the positive review you can see on the page for reference. I wish we had known more before my husband came here.

The facilities are spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The staff is outgoing, attentive and friendly. The quality of care is outstanding. There are numerous community lounging spaces to read, watch television or chat with neighbors. In the days we were visiting Champaign, we were truly amazed by the number of fun social activities (Super Bowl party, Mardi Gras, Chines New Year, Valentine's party, and more). The dining room is bright and inviting with appealing food. It's the friendliness, though, that really defines Carriage Crossing.

Our dad was a resident at Bridlebrook assisted-living for over 10 years. During that time,…read moreBridlebrook went through a number of owners and that directly impacted nearly every component of care for the residence, including staffing, cleaning, quality of food, and dining services. Maintenance was overworked and had limited budgets - our dad's apartment needed repairs for years, and they were finally accomplished only in the last several months of his life. When we were first evaluating the facility, the sales staff showed us a room with the hot tub and told us that it was a favorite spot for residents. After Dad moved in, we learned that the hot tub was never used except by employees, and during the entire time dad lived there that room was locked. (They eventually removed the hot tub, and I always felt that bit of salesmanship was incredibly dishonest.) There have been some wonderful staff members (including the current Director and several of them are very dear to us including most of the CNAs and health aids and dining room staff) at Bridlebrook who have felt like a part of our family. They've provided genuine, compassionate care, even in light of the fact that Bridlebrook has often been woefully understaffed or utilizing contract service providers who were paid more than the regular staff. this had to be hard for morale and also difficult for the earnest, caring on site management. We have NOT been impressed with their director of nursing. She prefers to sit in her office and make unreasonable demands of her staff and it seems that good employees have left because of her "management." personally, I would rather see her leave and some of the quality staff stay in place. For example, when employees call after a fall or concerned about a resident, instead of looking at a wound, she will ask the staff to take a photograph of it and send it to her. She also often usurped the authority of the Director of the building, usually when the Director was not on site. At one point, she called me and told me my temperate father was drinking too much because she had seen a bottle of rum in his refrigerator! I advised her that my father was an adult and that the bottle of Rum (welcome home gift when he moved in ) had been in his refrigerator since he moved into the facility. My dad has since passed and I still have that bottle and it is still half full. Dad has since passed and I only wrote this after he was gone because I did not want him to face repercussions and I did not trust the director of nursing.

Update. Well it's been 5 weeks in a row now that my parents can't get their laundry done. They…read moretake it away in the morning and by 8pm it's still missing. Seems the manager lets the girls go home without completing their jobs. Found the missing laundry wadded up wet in a washer. Been laying there all day. Finally by 10 pm they got their pjs back and could finally go to bed. They are both 92 years old. I think that is pretty bad.
