After months of regular visits, I found out certain services weren't covered by my insurance -- something no one ever told me upfront. I only found out because the billing person casually mentioned it one day. There was no heads-up that I'd be back-billed for past visits, which came as a complete surprise. Even after I asked to stick with adjustments only, I was still charged for those uncovered services -- and when I questioned it, I was told to "call your insurance and maybe they'll reimburse you." That's not the kind of response you expect from a professional healthcare office. I really wanted to keep coming here, but the lack of transparency around billing makes it hard to trust the process. If you're thinking about giving them a try, make sure to ask exactly what's covered and keep a close eye on your statements.

Dr. Mieczkowski is one of the most arrogant doctors I have ever dealt with. After my elderly…read more mother had a hospital stay, where her maintenance medication was changed. His response was to berate my parents (both in their 80s), disparage the hospital and doctors who worked there and put her back on the medications that contributed to her being rushed to the hospital. When my mother ask for a referral to get a second opinion, a very common request, he refused to give her one unless she left his practice. After I independently set up an appointment for my mother to see another physician to get a second opinion, and personally talked with Dr. Mieczkowski about my concerns, he dismissed my mother from his practice the same day. My advice to anyone looking to go to this doctor is to do your research on the Internet. It's amazing what is now public data that you can find.

I also like how South Dayton Family Physicians have doctors on call, in case you have an emergency question during the night. They were able to get us an appointment the next day if we were sick. I'm only putting 4 stars because we haven't gotten dreadfully sick yet, so we don't know how they perform in more tenuous circumstances. However, I like how they are trying to improve themselves by switching to an electronic documentation system.

This place on one hand does a good job of specialty care, but the other hand (treatment of…read morepatients....) sucks. I was in there for a work related accident. If it wasn't for my wife being at my bedside 24 / 7 more then half of the calls for (needed help) would have left me in dire pain. Three times the food service took my food without asking if I was done, I ALWAYS had to rely on my wife to assist me to the rest room. Half the time when I pressed the call button, it took over 15 minutes before a nurse came in and helped. (even in the middle of the damn night). My doctor was awesome, and some of the residents were ok, but one thing I found sad is - the doctor order 'leaches' to help try to save my crushed finger and a dietitian had to come in and put them on my finger - NONE of the nurses would do it. As for the birthing center (and this was 18 years ago), they did good, but who knows now how they are. If it wasn't for my doctor, they would get one less star....
