First Smiles Children's Dentistry

I love their detailed descriptions of their dental plans for my son, I love how quick and easy they work, I love how kind and patient they've been with my son. They're amazing!

In order to avoid him having to take antibiotics until then, I frantically called around trying to find a dentist that could see him ASAP to get it pulled. After speaking to a few different places, I decided to take my son here since they were accommodating enough to see him the quickest. They informed me he would first need an exam by the dentist to see what work needed to be done, which was fine by me. While there he talked about a lot more extensive work that needed to be done including another tooth pulled, baby root canal, and a crown (all of which was never mentioned by his regular dentist). They said he could come in the next morning to get the infected tooth pulled for which I was so grateful to get it taken care of. Signed off on the treatment plan which again stated that the infected tooth was going to be pulled first and the rest of the dental work (extra tooth pulled, baby root canal) would be done at a later date. My husband had to work the day of my son's extraction and since I had a baby I couldn't go back there with my son. But he assured me he was fine to go back by himself. Tooth pulled and we headed home, only for my husband to mention later that day "I thought the infected tooth was on the other side?"....... Yes, yes it was..... The infected tooth was still in his mouth... After finally getting a hold of the receptionist I asked her for some clarification as to why they did not pull my sons infected tooth, the one they said they would, the one I specifically came there for in the first place, the one they had listed on the treatment plan. She spoke to the dentist and this is where the gaslighting began... she said it was not a mistake that he made a judgement call based upon his expertise, and that he decided to pull the other tooth (which just had a larger cavity mind you) because he wanted to get that root canal taken care of before it became infected. And that if it became infected he would've had to have had 3 teeth pulled.... So you're telling me that they're over here just pulling teeth willy nilly when they get infected instead of the first line of defense which would be a baby root canal, which spoiler alert is what you were going to be doing regardless? Imagine taking your child to the doctor for an infected cut on his leg, only for him to come into the waiting room with a bandage on his arm instead. The doctor tells you he noticed the infected cut on his leg but wanted to take care of the cut on his arm first because of the "potential" of it becoming infected, and to come back in a few weeks and he will take care of the infected cut on the leg. That is essentially what happened in this case, literally absurd right? So now my neurodivergent son had to take antibiotics which again isn't easy for him and I wanted to avoid. It required a doctors visit just to get the script changed to chewables because he can't take liquid form. All of this could've been avoided had this dentist just PULLED THE INFECTED TOOTH!

They have always been friendly and always compliment how well behaved my girls are. My girls enjoy the books and bean bags chairs, to the fish tank and movie going on in the waiting room. They enjoy wearing the cute sunglasses and watching movie while they get their teeth cleaned or worked on. They also love getting stickers after there cleaning. They never get upset about having to go to the dentist. We enjoy going to both Lenser sisters and it's so convenient to have them next door to each other.

She is very mindful of my kids' special needs. I have one on the spectrum and one who is extremely scared of any kind of pain. Today, we had to get teeth pulled, and my daughter had no idea that she even received a numbing shot! Dr. Lenser gets right down to the kids' understanding and calms them down. My children go home and make sure to brush every day because they want to please Dr. Lenser! She's amazing. The staff up front is always very professional, and soft spoken to as to preserve others privacy.

Unlike most welfare dentists, they didnt over diagnose anything, insisting on more work than necessary. It was what happened with my daughter's 6th month follow up that pissed me off. They originally said she needed 1 root canal and gave me a referral to find a dentist. My daughter has anxiety and is on the spectrum so I wanted to have her sedated. Salida Surgery refused to sedate a child for a root canal and I could not find an Endodontist in the county that would see a child under 12 for an adult root canal, so I was left going to the east bay and bay area and paying out of pocket for everything, about $2550 for everything. i happily did it, its for my child. 6months later, I took her back to Childrens Choice and was told she'd need 2 more root canals!!! WTAF?! they couldnt find 2 more teeth 6 months earlier that needed root canals? 2 more teeth that disnt even need fillings apparently because they didnt even offer to fill them prior. How TF did 2 perfectly good teeth go from not needing work to needing a root canal in 6 months? My daughter was brushing daily. Her Endodontist did a full X-ray and didnt say she needed anything extra either but she could only do what she was referred for anyways. I no longer have Medi-Cal so the only choice to fix these teeth would to be paying probably close to another $5k out of pocket for her teeth. My daughter is 11... I guess welfare dentists think parents can just go do these things for free, no problem. Sorry, I don't have that kinda time or money. I have an actual job and dont live off everyone's tax money. This aint even an option. Ill be sending my grils to my dentist for now on (Dr. Garcia at Dr. Filbrun's office). If you dont have welfare, dont use welfare dentists. Just saying.
