This single star rating is specific to the store's prepared food area on September 12, 2019…read more I've eaten in many brands of grocery stores around the country There is absolutely no signage as to how much most things cost. Many things are mislabeled like calling fried fish,... meat loaf. I made a plate of fried fish, broccoli and mashed potatoes having no idea how much $ the plate would cost. In looking where to pay, again no signage. Is it my weight or item count?? Also no drinks in sight. Yet they have a nice area to eat. Finally I find someone to ask Where do I pay? She says at the main registers up front. I am not walking up to registers to wait in line to walk back to the in store dining area. So, I sat at dining area and ate my lunch. I'll figure it out on my way out of the store. Damn, Pick n Save,.. make it easy for people to spend their money!!

$5. Boss. Sandwich…read more If it wouldn't look weird, I'd just end the review there. I do want to talk about the store itself, as well though. I've been to the breezy north several times and it has yet to disappoint. It's good prices, great atmosphere, and ultra convenient location. The majority of my visits have been right before or after heading into the great maze known as Maxwell Street Days. I tend to get the Boss sandwich (I mean a 1+ foot long giant sub for $5...can't be beat), and I always love it. I also know the locals love it, I've got some peoples in the area, so I have that inside scoop. If you're driving through, fresh food in the deli is a better option than the McD's next door, and if you're just out to pick up your groceries, this is the place to go.

I realized that the zipper on my…read morepants was half down, there were other patrons in the store, so trying not to bring attention to myself I walked around to the next aisle. Quickly as possible, I took care of the situation and everything was fine until the owner standing in front of me asked me if I just pissed on his floor. I looked at him and said what and he said it again did you just piss on my floor I said no my zipper was down and I secured it and he then walked away, adding to the embarrassment of walking into a public establishment having my fly down. Now just the other day. I googled liqueur that I needed for a specific cocktail. And Flannery's came up. So I called and acquired about that specific item when I did this. His comment was well. I'm a liquor store and it's a liquor. That's why it came up. I don't carry it. So I guess I snapped back and said well there's another liquor store down the street and their name didn't come up and then he replied that's because I pay $160 a month that would be for search engine optimization those are not his words those are mine. In return, I responded, whoa spin the wheel, big spender. Then I thought he was going to hang up on me, but he didn't. He just responded. Good luck in your quest. All I have to say is reputation, goes a long ways as does word-of-mouth. You need to work on your customer skills because if I were an alcoholic which I'm not, and you were the last liquor store on the planet I would never drink again!

The owner definitely has a passion for beer and makes it a point to stock any and all limited/hard to find beers he can. Another great thing about the place is that any time you go there the employees are friendly, knowledgeable, and will just "shoot the shit" with you about beer, whiskey, sports, music, or whatever you feel like chatting about. They have reasonable prices, and a nice little cigar selection also.

The owner is a standout--incredibly friendly, interesting to talk to, and he brings a personal touch that's rare to find these days. He remembers his regular customers and has fascinating stories from his time living in Asia. It's the kind of place where you feel like more than just another transaction. The store offers a large variety of liquors and beers, with something for just about every taste. There's also a fair selection of non-alcoholic beers--a thoughtful inclusion we really appreciate, though we'd love to see even more variety in that category as demand continues to grow. The wine selection isn't exotic, but it's clearly curated with the local customer in mind. You'll find quality bottles at fair prices--perfect for everyday sipping or easy gifting. Geneva Liquors is a great example of what a neighborhood liquor store should be: clean, welcoming, well-stocked, and run by someone who truly cares about the community. We're glad to support it--and we'll definitely be back.
