One of the best casting directors in the business. She is kind and thoughtful. The people who work with her are smart efficient collaborative. The best. Alyson is a highly meticulous, and an organized casting director. She storyboards our callbacks as talent, I've never seen that previously. Also, it's a pleasure to work with Shannon when he's manning the camera. He's fun, cordial, and there's a super chill, ease abt him. And zero ego, like ever. That's as rare as a blood moon, in this business. Obvi, what I'm saying is you're a lucky girl if Shannon is working in the same room with you. It's a perpetual delight. Big hugs to you all. read more

I just finished the Introduction to Commercial's class with Reece Rios and I had so much fun! I've studied with both Reece and Jeff Gould at AHS, and they are top notch. Reece did a great job of breaking down the current trends in commercials -- from personality interviews to copy to improv. He made the class fun and educational. He gave everyone positive and specific feedback to help improve our audition skills. Jeff is also great with feedback and adjusted my on camera technique accordingly. I highly recommend taking classes here! read more

One of the premier commercial casting companies in LA! I've been lucky enough to be seen by them many times over the years and have always had a professional and pleasant experience. In a business that is not known for too many acts of kindness and patience with us actors, AHC casting respects talent and creates a space where you feel free to do your best. read more

I recently took 2 different commercial classes put on by Alyson Horn and Ross Lacy. I cannot say enough about the quality of the classes, and all that I learned. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to hone in on what will work best for them in auditions. Top notch instructors, too. Will jump into class again with them anytime! P.S. I'm Kat, not Joe. read more

SO MUCH FUN!! I just finished my second class at AHC (Booze & Burgers) and would be so happy to continue taking more. I had class with Rob Poynter and Reece Rios. Both instructors are incredible working actors and commercial session directors. Each week we were brought into such specific audition scenarios that allowed for challenge and growth. Getting to work in the actual AHC casting room with a supportive class environment was really helpful in play, which I know will allow me more freedom and less fear when I walk in for an actual audition. At the end of the month, Alyson and Ross also sit with the actors and give a thorough Q&A, allowing a further lift of the casting process veil. I highly recommend taking class here as Alyson and Ross are great casting directors who simply want to help actors book. It's a win for everyone. Thanks AHC! read more

Yall....this commercial class will get your commercial life ALL the way together! I finished taking the Commercial Audition technique class with Jeff Gould and I can't even begin to explain to you how helpful it was. I mean this is a yelp review so I'm going to have to explain something. lol Listen, Jeff breaks it down for you. This class is not just for those starting out, but its open to those who need a nice refresher like myself. Each week we covered a different topic and it NEVER got boring. Jeff is honest and I appreciate that. If you don't deliver what is asked of you, he will let you know, but not in a mean cruel way. You'd be surprised with the simple mistakes we actors make in the room and sometimes don't even realize it. It's a class, a friendly comfortable learning environment, to help you achieve commercial success and get you where you clearly need to be in these here commercial streets. THANKS AHC AND JEFF! read more

I just completed Advance Audition Technique A with Joy Lofton and it delivered on everything promised. Joy created a welcoming, supportive environment and worked with each of us to fine tune and identify areas where we could sharpen our skills. Joy is a true master at the commercial process and easily broke it down for us. She took the time to explain to us how it all works and what to expect. She provided us with a toolbox of things to pull from for all situations. After finishing the class, I feel confident that I can go in to any audition, prepared and able to showcase my talent and provide my unique self. I highly recommend this class for both the novice and the experienced as it is a wonderful space to play! read more

I just completed The Hispanic Commercial Class with Laura Arias. I have to say it completely shifted my perspective on commercial auditions. Immensely. Especially when it comes to double markets, and the shifts I need to make as an actor to suit each one. Laura is wonderful and if you're Latin, she will speak to you in ways you probably have been missing in this town, unless your family is here. She is blunt, and pushes you to grow because she sees in you what you see in yourself. It's awesome!!! I left this class feeling so inspired for all my work. Theatrical, commercial. I understood how to prep for commercials. I stopped thinking " commercial is a numbers game" ( It maybe) but I definitely feel I now have the tools to get those numbers in my favor. I would recommend it to anyone. The Alyson Horn facility is beautiful, and if you have been there to audition, you'll love seeing the backside of it all. I have taken a lot of classes in Los Angeles, and maybe because this was directed towards my market, and spoke my language, I felt this was fresh and new. Things, I had not heard before. read more

Do It! Do it NOW! This workshop took my commercial life up a level! And by level I mean, booking the job! I took the workshop in June and and in July my number of call backs increased and in August I booked a national automobile commercial! I'm not new to the game so I already had a good Idea of what to expect when auditioning for commercials. However taking this course, taught by the wonderful Joy Lofton, it unlocked so many small details on what you should and shouldn't do during commercial castings. I mean, we were provided with such invaluable information and techniques that you can use to leave an impression on casting. This class separates the boys from the men! The girls from the women. I highly recommend this course for anyone serious about doing commercial work. Cause baby, It's worth it! Thanks AHC! read more

I recently took the advanced commercial class at AHC lead by Shannon H.The instruction was fun, interesting, and well planned. Each week you cover a different lesson/topic. Lots of insider tips and debunking of common casting myths. My classmates were supportive and of a high caliber of talent. I genuinely looked forward to going each week. As actors we have lots of options of where to train/spend our money. I found this class to be well worth it. A game changer for how I now prepare for every commercial audition. Huge thanks to Shannon and the rest of the gang at AHC. read more

Just took the Commercial Audition Technique class with Jeff Gould as it was absolutely amazing! I felt AHC to be truly relevant in that the techniques taught adhere directly to the trends of modern auditioning. In a fully camera equipped classroom, there's nothing else that can give you the feel of auditioning better than this! Jeff was a fantastic teacher. Direct and constructively kind, he gave his experienced insights into what works and what doesn't in the audition room. From pointing out all the common mistakes or cliched actor"isms" made from day to day to the subtleties/subconscious things that either help or hurt an audition, he empowered us with the tips and tools to either fix them, or make our choices and instincts even stronger. I will say that among the many, many commercial classes in LA, AHC truly challenged what I've been taught over the years. Most classes focus on drilling copy and the "delivery" of lines, but here, Jeff focused on audition technique in various scenarios, our uniqueness as individuals, confidence building and even gave an insightful critique on how we're currently presenting ourselves to casting directors. This class teaches actors how auditions work from both in front of and behind the camera, and then shows us how we can work to make our auditions stand out from the crowd! Thank you all at AHC for taking the time to offer such effectively educational classes! read more

I took the Advanced Commercial class in January with Jonathan and it was great. This class helps to shift your way and approach of auditioning. I now go in rooms more confident than ever because I've been given the tools to succeed in a multitude of audition situations. If you're the actor that is getting call backs, but never booking or making it to avail- this class is for you. It takes you to the next level. Highly recommend taking this class at AHC. read more

I just completed the Commercial Audition Technique class with Jeff Gould and it was excellent! The class is designed for actors who are new to the world of commercial auditioning but I honestly felt it was super helpful for those who've been auditioning for a while too. It helps you get comfortable with slating and being in front of the camera. You get to watch not only your auditions but your classmates as well. Jeff gives you great constructive feedback and is very kind throughout the whole process. Along with the on-camera work, he helps you hone in on your "type" and reviews your headshots. It was all extremely valuable! I learned a lot and yet I didn't feel overwhelmed or intimidated. Plus, Jeff is a session director who helps run actual auditions for the office. He knows what works and what doesn't work for auditioning. You'll be learning from the people who are actively casting. I'm not sure you can get more current than that. I highly recommend! read more

I would highly recommend if you are new to commercials or want to brush up on your skills. Viva la JEFf! Hopefully he Teaches the advanced class because yas yas yasssss read more

I thought I knew what I was doing. I'm a rather seasoned actor with a ton of class history, studied commercial technique with the late Carolyn Barry, made it through unscathed with the really tough love guy and his workshop, even have several national commercials under my belt. Well, I stepped away from the biz, got married, made a beautiful human, and spent three years away from the camera. Boy, the landscape sure has changed. I thought I'd get right back in line where I left, and that wasn't the case. It was tough to get an agent and it's tough to get into offices. Of the few opportunities I had this past year, whatever I was doing in the past wasn't working. Did I need to take another class?? Yes, I did, because it became quite clear to me why I wasn't coming off as a pro. I just finished Advanced A with Joy. Let's just talk about her for a moment. Besides being a working actor, which is always a benefit when taking class, Joy gave us so much more than just copy and critique. She gave us references for books, shared personal stories and philosophies related to the biz, and her unique perspective as a session runner in this town. I felt my confidence grow every week. Even if I wasn't hitting homers in class, I was stumbling, learning, bringing my size down, tapping back into my gifts..taking a breath. This isn't a class where you will sit and watch tape of everyone after performance. You'll watch on the monitor as others are auditioning. She'll stop and start, sharing do's and don'ts as they happen. You'll get copy every week that will be tailored to your type, each week has a different focus, with the sides sent through LA Casting the night before. My favorite class was the last one..the callback. Designed to be just as intimidating as callbacks are, I felt the old me, the booker in me, the new me come out. I am very grateful to be back in the game, full of confidence. Thank you AHC! read more

I just completed Jeff Gould's Commercial Audition Technique Class with Jeff Gould. I highly recommend the class. Jeff is honest, but also very encouraging. I felt he genuinely wanted actors to do better. Even though some of my classmates didn't have any acting experience or training they all improved so much. His specific adjustments to individual students on camera are excellent. I have a lot of improv training, but he said people who have improv training need to know how to apply the skills for a camera. It was so true. He also stayed and answered all our questions - even after class read more

Just finished the 4 week Hispanic/English market class with Laura at AHC and it was amazing!! We all left with a better understanding and some good insight on what we need to do personally to be better and rise to the top. Thank you for offering an amazing course w an amazing instructor. I can't wait to get out there on my next audition. I recommend this class to anyone curious about both markets or even anyone that needs to understand what goes on in both. Thanks again. LA is stuffed with numerous schools/classes/workshops. It's really hard to know which ones to take. AHC's commercial class came recommended to me and I'm so glad I took it! Shannon H. ran the session I was in. Because of his experience as an actor and session director, he knows exactly which techniques work. Shannon also gives personalized constructive feedback on how you can present your best self to the clients. As an added benefit of taking classes here, they occasionally pull people from class to audition for projects they are currently casting for. Everyone I've met in the office is super nice and seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. I feel this place should be on the radar of any actor looking to build their career, and even those mid-career. read more

Great casting office. as far as casting offices go, this place really has it together. in and out very quickly, timely (this is a huge factor for actors). easy parking on n. sycamore. lastly... they cast most of the BIG ones. you get called in here, you know you have a good agent ;) read more

I JUST booked an amazing job from taking the classes that Shannon H. taught at AHC! This casting office is so great, all the ladies that work here, including the lobby girl, are sooooooo sweet. One of my favorite casting offices in LA!! Really professional and well run. Thanks guys!!

I took The Hispanic Commercial Class with Laura Arias. It was definitely the most amazing, helpful, informational class I've taken! Laura taught me so many things about my craft and how to perfect it. Laura definitely pushes you to be the best version of yourself possible, she points out your mistakes and helps you grow and correct them. I would always go home super inspired after class and ready to give the best of me at my next audition! Ever since I took her class, I have already booked two commercials! Thank you Laura for all of your tips and knowledge! Eternally grateful :) read more

Not only was Shannon great at pushing us to get to Callback/Booking Status, but it's help in the same rooms they have auditions, so bonus for being comfortable when this office does call you in! Alyson's dog is the sweetest, I got to meet the pretty puppy when she came down to let us know that it's car season, and gave us tips on how to be bookable this time of year. Excellent classes! I plan on returning if I ever feel I need a brush up! read more

I took the Advanced Audition Technique A with Joy Lofton. Wow! This class was exceptional. From Day 1, Joy set up a really supportive/safe environment for everyone to learn & take risks. I watched the growth of not only myself but others in my class. It was such an intimate experience which is rare with only 4 classes. Joy is a direct, straight forward teacher that will give you the feedback you need to really move to the next level. She is a working actor with years of valuable experience to share from the waiting room, first audition, callback, check avail, booking & then being on set. She also very kindly made herself available through email outside of class with questions about the current auditions we were going on. The most valuable thing I took away from the class was my confidence in the audition process. I can wholeheartedly say that I now look forward to my commercial auditions! read more

Just completed the Advanced Audition Workshop. One of the best classes I've taken in awhile! I was referred by my agent and I'm grateful! (It's pretty hard to get excited to drive all over the world for some of the classes I've been a part of lately. THIS ONE didn't make me dread driving at all. That's huge for me.) Really loved Jonathan. I trusted him completely. He's patient, funny, and most importantly, is excellent at giving direction and explaining the business of commercials. Everything he says makes total sense. Thank you so much, AHC! read more

I recently completed the AHC, Commercial Acting Technique class facilitated by Jeff Gould and I was thoroughly impressed, it exceeded my expectations! Jeff's instructional techniques created an environment that allowed me to connect with the art of acting through different lenses. This was an amazing 4 weeks of beginning commercial classes. I learned SO much. Jeff is a great teacher who genuinely cares that you are learning and growing from your mistakes. He also tells you how it is when it comes to the commercial industry and what you would most likely get called in for. The beginning class teaches you the basics in commercial auditioning, things you wouldn't even think about. A very positive environment, a good use of money for your acting career! read more

So it was recommended by my agent to, ahem, brush up on my commercial acting technique, as it's been a while. I'll admit: I had a bit of trepidation because although I love acting, commercials happen so fast it can seem rushed and hurried. So I just completed the Commercial Acting class A with JOY LOFTON. Can I just say this class is amazing. Joy was nothing short of awesome. She didn't coddle in any way; in fact, she was to the point and direct. BUT, she wasn't mean or hurtful about it. Not only was she (and the class) super informative, but I learned a LOT BY DOING. Practicing "as if" and in the type of room you would walk into when you go to a commercial audition was VERY HELPFUL. Not to mention, the folks at Alyson Horn Casting are among the top in commercial casting...so familiarizing yourself with the place/room was icing on the cake in my opinion. I won't lie, it would have been nice to have met or worked with some of the casting directors directly..but I'll admit, since Joy has a lot of experience with them, their method and how they work, I can't say nicer things about her. She gave a lot of just "list of things" that were helpful. Depending on whether it was in general auditioning, or specifically in group or driving a car or doing spokesperson...she had a LOT of insight! And her trusty "notebook of advice" from which she spent years compiling with some good tidbits was something that made it that much more! Knowing that the CD's were behind what material we got and what was next for us, made it a great experience. I actually can't wait to get into this office and rock the audition! They gave me THAT much more confidence in knowing what to expect and how to do the best I can for a shorter period of time. THANK YOU AHC and JOY!! john read more

There are simply not enough positive things I can say about my awesome instructor Tom Musgrave & Alyson Horn Casting. I auditioned a few times at AHC and was blown away by the professionalism and quality of the experience. When I heard they were offering an audition technique class I jumped at the opportunity. It was perhaps one of the best acting classes I've taken in Los Angeles and that's all thanks to the enthusiasm of Tom Musgrave. He genuinely cares about what he does and his fun personality makes class inviting not intimidating. In addition he gives smart/helpful critiques. Classes are on camera and scripts are tailored to each student. I learned so much from this class and my callbacks have improved tremendously. highly recommend! read more

I took Advanced Callback class A with Joy Lofton. I would recommend this class to almost any actor, but specifically one who has an agent, is going out on auditions, and is ready to work. I feel like I really got expert advice from Joy - she's a working actor AND a session director who has been in countless audition/callback rooms and knows what she is talking about. She is very straightforward, no nonsense. But also very caring and open to any questions you have during and after class. Tons of extremely helpful tips - I took pages of notes. Plus, you work in front of the camera and lights multiple times every class, which is great practice. I want to particularly mention that this is a great class for WOMEN. There are many male teachers out there in the commercial world, but I found Joy's class extra helpful because she spoke about issues pertaining to female actors - like hair, clothing, makeup, type, along with character viewpoints, dealing with partners, working with clients, etc. and not taking anything away from the male actors. It was very refreshing - like a bonus. In conclusion, I feel like I got a lot of specific feedback that I immediately was able to use in my next auditions. Got two callbacks and a new agent while I took her class! read more
