Simply amazing. This is the second time I've used A. Vargas Body Shop on Magazine Street in New…read moreOrleans, and the experience has been outstanding both times. In a perfect world, none of us would ever deal with car accidents. But in a city like New Orleans, they're often an unavoidable reality. When it happened to me, Alex and his talented team made my vehicle look good as new--maybe even better. The service was exactly what was promised. Pricing was more than fair, with no hidden fees or surprise add-ons--just honest work at a fair cost. And the timing was spot-on. My car was ready exactly when they said it would be, just like when they repaired our Jeep Renegade three years ago. The quality of workmanship speaks for itself. Alex never judged me for wanting to repair my 2019 Ford Fiesta rather than let insurance total it. I love that car--it has barely 50,000 miles and gets 42 mpg on the interstate--and Alex understood that connection. To top it all off, they returned the car cleaned from top to bottom. While I certainly hope I never need a body shop again, it's reassuring to know A. Vargas Body Shop is just a phone call away if I do!

I called my dealership and they directed me to a place with horrible reviews. So I decided to go it alone and chose A Vargas. I pull in and ask for an estimate. Instead Alex says the bumper is just loose (no damage) and everything looks fine. He then snaps it back it place. Problem solved. Alex wouldn't accept a payment! He said "it was easy" and I told him it was his expertise and availability to quickly help me that was worth money. Finally I just put some cash in his shirt pocket, waved goodbye and walked away with both of us smiling. I can't image a more trustworthy, professional, and knowledgeable body shop. Don't let the location or the cluttered appearance of the shop stop you. This is a great business.

I recently contacted Ken's about getting an estimate for my car. I was told by the dealership that…read morethe cost to repaint the car would be over $8,000, and I wanted to shop local and hopefully get a more reasonable quote. The receptionist was extremely sweet and professional when I explained the situation to her over the phone, and she was just as pleasant in person. She called over someone to check out my car (it was covered by overspray from a boat that was being repainted), and the guy says that the car doesn't need to be repainted and that it could be fixed another way. He says it would cost around $700, ballpark. Great. He then tells me that I would need to get the vehicle cleaned, and that the cleaner it is the better job he can do with repairs. Hmm. So his work is subject to how clean I can get the car before he does the work. Okay. I tell him that I would like to get a quote for repainting also, along with the repair quote. I tell him that I am considering filing the claim with my insurance company, but my deductible is $1,500. He says it wouldn't be worth filing it because the insurance company wouldn't pay for the paint job and that the cost for the repair would be "around" that price "give or take." I asked if that included detailing/cleaning, and he said that they would detail it because of the mess the job would entail. I then asked him if he would be able to clean the car (so I don't have to do this prior to bringing it in and not wanting to run the risk of my cleaning job not being good enough to result in a satisfactory repair job as he made clear from the beginning to be a factor), and he said that they would be able to do it for the $1,500 amount. I asked for written estimates 3 times throughout the conversation with him. I made a phone call from the parking lot to discuss the conversation I had just had with this guy, and as a result I needed the quote he had just verbally provided. I told him that I would try to get the company that caused the damage to consider remedying the issue (instead of paying out of my own pocket or trying to file an insurance claim) and that I needed a written quote. He said, "That's not how we do business here." I was slightly taken aback and confused, so I asked him to elaborate. He said that his verbal estimate was based on not having the vehicle cleaned when he quoted the amount initially, and it was also based on who would be paying for it. He proceeds to tell me that he wants to speak to the person I had called to discuss the situation with (my mom, who is familiar with this body shop), and walked away. He made it a point to state that if my insurance were paying, he had no issues "maximizing the estimate." He also, clearly, had no issue subtly adjusting his verbal estimate from $700 to $1,500 when he concluded that I'd be paying out of pocket. But after the fourth request for a written estimate that would be reviewed by another party, for obvious reasons he felt uncomfortable with everything we had just discussed, because he knew that he was attempting to inflate the numbers to either an insurance company or someone (me) not very familiar with car repairs and work such as this. I left, and said that I'd find someone else to help me with my car. It's absolutely astounding to me how people can do business like this. I 100% believe that it's not always the case of 'the customer's always right," because no, they aren't. But when it comes down to it, this person is a poor representation of what I've heard to be a business that does good work. There's a big difference between doing good work, though, and conducting good business. I can't speak from personal experience about their work, but from the business conduct standpoint, my experience here was, practically, the poster child handbook of "Everything You Should Avoid Doing When Running a Business."
