You're forced to call the general support line, waste their time, and then get transferred to the retirement department... who never pick up the phone. We eventually had to start including threats in our instructions just to get a response. It wasn't until we escalated to their ombudsman that they finally did what they were supposed to do in the first place. Most recently, a former employee tried to roll over their 401(k)--a straightforward process. Schwab screwed it up three separate times, mailing checks with the wrong name on them. This is after giving them written instructions, plus wasting an hour on the phone telling them exactly what to do. There were times when she would not return calls or emails, even though the CPA spoke with her and begged her to respond. It was such a dreadful experience that I hope anyone reading this will steer clear of Hicks Pension and Judy Kingma.
