Beware - I recently moved several accounts from Edward Jones Advisory Services in New Bern, NC to a…read moredifferent brokerage firm and was very disappointed at the level of support I received. I understand that EJ never wants to lose a customer, but I expected some level of assistance as a professional courtesy after being a long-time customer who paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees over the years. After meeting and clearly documenting what I wanted to do, my financial rep Georgiana Bowman failed to assist with the tasks that needed to be done and wouldn't respond to my emails. I ended up working with corporate to find out how to proceed and the process dragged on for 6 weeks. The only thing they were really on top of was a triple-hit on fees, which was somewhat hidden since they took away access to the online website before the transition was complete. Part of the difficulty was that the Advisory Group invested in EJ proprietary funds that can't be transferred to another firm. These investments had to be liquidated, creating taxable gains. It appears to be set up to keep people (and their children who may inherit the funds) locked in to EJ if they don't want to take the tax hit. They may earn a higher commission by putting money into their own funds.
