It is generally the stop right before Altrincham, depending on which way you're travelling, as far as I'm aware all services going via here also call via Altrincham. Pretty old school station, with the barriers stopping cars from passing outside when a train is due, due to the nature of the trains tracks and roads around the station. Basic facilities but a pretty average station overall, there was some shelter, at least in the Metrolink part at least, it could have been lit slightly better, but with trams, every ten minutes going, either way, it isn't too bad. I also like how it is one of the few stations outside of the city centre where you don't have to go through any lifts/stairs/corridors, you just get straight onto the Platform to make your service. It's much simpler, especially when you're running late and don't want to wait in the cold for the next service! 3*

The…read moreChorlton Street Bus Station is in the centre of Manchester, has an indoor waiting area with a coffee shop and hosts National Express and Eurolines buses. Chorlton Bus Station is a mere series of bus stops in Chorlton. The other day my bus stopped at Chorlton Bus Station. A middle-aged man with reams of toilet paper sticking out of his nose and all over his face got onto my bus. In an attempt to avoid eye contact I stared out of the window. There was another middle-aged man with a white bear glove puppet carrying a flowing roll of toilet paper. Apart from as a point for such (for want of a better word) unique Chorltonites to congregate, I've never really understood the point of Chorlton Bus Station. It's just a series of bus stops from which you can catch the 85 and 86 into the city centre, the 23 to Didsbury and the Trafford Centre, and numerous other buses, most of which you can also catch further down the road in the centre of Chorlton. On a positive note, if you have a long time to wait for your bus, the bus station is opposite some excellent little bars such as Escape, or if you have even longer to wait, Japanese restaurant Yakisoba is also just opposite.

This place, within a play park, is perfect for adults and kids alike. Yes there are mini steam…read moretrains that take on cupfuls of water, and they whistle, hiss, chug, smell and burn coal, delivered into tiny hoppers by the train driver using mini forceps. These tiny engines create enough steam and enough oomph to tug a train driver and four or six adults and children at a decent speed. The miniature railway, which runs on a Sunday, is about 1/4 mile long accommodating locomotives of 5 inch and 3 1/2 inch gauge. This special service is provided, run and maintained by members of the Sale Area Model Engineering Society. The railway is operated on Sundays, weather and availability of engines permitting. The society currently charges 30p per ride for both children and adults. The park also has swings, slides, rope bridges and so on. There are beautiful rose bushes and other trees and shrubs. All in all a pretty ok place. One downside though, the public toilets were closed. Perhaps, because it's a Sunday, but I don't know why what I do know is it's not good enough particularly given the crowds I saw there.

Chorlton Metrolink Station originally opened all the way back in 1880 as a Railway Station, now it…read moreserves a totally different purpose, reopening after being converted to a Metrolink Station in 2011 (It originally closed to rail services in 1967) It is in a decent location within Chorlton town centre right by Morrisons. There is reasonable lighting and shelter for the station, it could be better, but this is common for many non-terminus, non-city centre locations. The lift can be spooky so be warned, the lights are on a sensor and only come on when you're in the lift, they have ended up coming on late for me before, meaning I had to ride up in a dark lift! It's on a decent number of lines, so you can get to Manchester Airport, East Didsbury, Rochdale and Victoria. 3*

I actually like Timperley Metrolink Station. It is on the Altrincham Line on the Manchester…read moreMetrolink and is located in Travel Zone 4. It was originally opened as a Railway Station back in 1849, before opening as a converted Metrolink station in 1992, some parts of the old station remain including the old railway bridge, from around this point, it switches to a multi-direction track into Altrincham, which is pretty cool but can often mean having to wait a couple of minutes for a signal. (Instead of having tracks for each direction, one is a Railway track, and one has been converted for Metrolink trams) I think the station looks good too, the platform is spacious, there is more than one area providing good shelter, it's a pretty typical Metrolink station but it looks pleasant, which is a bonus. It's a short walk into Timperley town centre, there is also a Waitrose supermarket nearby, interestingly Waitrose's "Altrincham" branch is actually a little closer to this Metrolink station than Altrincham town centre. Due to it being a Zone 4 station outside of the city centre, it is often unstaffed and it is only on one line, meaning you might have a little wait for a tram sometimes, but it isn't too bad as services going into Altrincham or Manchester city centre depart every 10-15 minutes. 4*

Brooklands is a Metrolink station on the Altrincham line of the Metrolink, which is a Grade II…read morelisted building (pretty common for Metrolink stations along this route) It's the stop in-between Sale and Timperley. It's pretty much an average Metrolink in most regards, it does have Park and Ride which is handy if you want to ditch your car outside and then spend the day travelling on the Metrolink. The station is pretty clean, it isn't too comfortable with a lack of seating, again this is typical of Metrolink stations, considering the majority of the time services are every 10 minutes in each direction, it doesn't matter too much. The Altrincham bound platform has a bus stop style shelter, compared to the Manchester bound platform which has a taller shelter which covers more of a platform, it's a shame they couldn't ensure the latter was on both sides. It is in fare zone 3/4, this is useful as it means if you only want to travel one stop you won't be paid for travelling into a different zone and can think of the station being in whatever zone would save you the most money. 3* - Pretty much your typical Metrolink station, nothing too exciting but does the job, the park and ride is handy.
