It's been hard for my wife and I to keep up! The Hamburger Dom Sommerdom capped off our summer festing all proper like. The area they allot for the Dom is massive and has a lot of "B's": beer gardens, beer bars, bratwurst, and booze as carnival prizes (YES, you read that right!). There are also a ton of standard carnival rides and rollercoasters; they even have funhouses like the ones in the Grease movie (which I've never seen anywhere else). Beide bier und bratwurst were consumed aplenty during our visit to the Hamburger Dom. We also went on a Friday night and were lucky enough to hop on the ferris wheel just as the weekly fireworks display began! Perfect timing! We had only recently heard about Hamburger Dom, but apparently it happens three times a year and runs for about a month each time during the spring, summer, and winter. Without a doubt, my wife and I will be regulars from here on out. And we'll be recommending people from home (SF, CA) to visit when it's around.

The football can be quite entertaining, but it isn't of the highest quality. One thing I can say is that you'll almost certainly see some goals. I've watched games from all over the stadium now, standing, seating, VIP seating. I think overall I prefer to stand, you get the best atmosphere that way - however if you do get standing tickets, be sure to get there in plenty of time to grab a good spot. The one time I arrived as the game was starting, I ended up having to stand right at the front, which means behind the fence, which blocks quite a lot of your view. Recently I got to experience the opposite way of watching a game from the VIP area in the new stand. I've got to say that the hospitality is pretty nice. Free beer served by (mostly) attractive young ladies, who deliver beer to your seats throughout the game. There is also an all-you-can-eat buffet and needless to say you get a great view. The atmosphere is a bit stale though. I got the feeling that me and my friends were the only ones singing... After each goal the stadium bounces to Blur's Song 2 (Woo! The ship is brimming with interesting things about itself, the original merchants who commissioned her, how the crew lived, lots of artefacts plus all the lower decks and cabins left how they would have been in days gone by. There is also a nice looking restaurant deep in the heart of the ship. We really enjoyed our 90 minutes on there and regard it as one of the highlights of my family's week in Hamburg
