They make sure it's safe for you to donate with through screening process. will say a few things I would say that I think should be a bit better is the line for screening since at times there are huge lines at the start of the day with with only 2-3 screening booths open. I have allergies and was told that they were cleared by the study doctor and that I could participate in the study. I drove an hour to my screening visit fasting so I could have labs drawn and was then told after being there for 1.5 hours that my allergies were not approved by the Principal investigator. A note on my chart did say MI approved SS visit scheduled but ultimately I was turned away. I had two phone calls and was told on the first one that I would be waitlisted and that my allergies would have to be approved and then I was called a second told in which I did a telephone screening because I was told that my allergies had been cleared and that I was okay to participate so I was extremely disappointed to be made to leave after being told my allergies were cleared. I wish they had better communication and annotations amongst staff so that this could have been avoided. read more

Disappointing Decline at Alta Sciences, LA I used to really respect Alta Sciences LA, but things have changed drastically. Over my last five visits, I've been placed as a backup every single time, despite having perfectly fine labs, no drug use, and a solid screening history with other clinics who consistently select me. The wait times for screening are ridiculously long now, and the new staff are overly strict and seem to nitpick for reasons that don't make sense. I've seen volunteers denied over things like using alcohol-based toothpaste or mouthwash -- it's excessive and inconsistent. What's worse, it's clear there's favoritism at play. Some of the people who consistently get picked were my past roommates -- they were sneaking candy during studies or hiding salt to use later -- which violates study rules. Yet they keep getting in. This isn't about safety or protocol -- it's about a shift in attitude. The staff are not as friendly or professional as before, and it feels like fairness is no longer part of the process. Reading other negative reviews, I now realize I'm not alone in this experience. Not to mention that it's a requirement that you be put on a waitlist for the studies and the study passes and nobody ever calls. It's become a joke. I have a high BMI. I now know there are studies can qualify for. I thought weigh loss study was only one I could do. Timing worked out and I was approved. Great way to make money while working on line. Doing studies are great for people struggling with expensive rent. Have to be drug and alcohol free, better than rehab. Don't have to pay to go and leave with paycheck. The food and medical staff are five star rating. The accommodations and beds aren't the best. There are ping pong table, basketball, smart tvs and laundry facilities. The schedule is clock and efficient, even to time you take first bite of food. I have been going here off and on for about 12 years now. Everyone here on staff seem very caring and are very thorough on what to expect. During studies the catered food is really good! It's truly disappointing how careless and deceitful they are handling volunteers payments. Out of all the clinical trial centers in SoCal, these guys seem too close to missing their own deadlines for payment, and why, in the first place, can't they give us a check as soon as we check out of a study/ complete a follow up? Other centers do it. Many of us rely on this money to pay our bills and rent on time. Aside from this, the clinic staff seems young and enthusiastic for the most part. Not the admin staff though. I'd give them a zero if I could. Most of the staff here were professional. There were a few that were not. A few of the participants were uncouth and inconsiderate. One participant played loud, awful, music while another participant and I were sleeping. Three of us shared a room. I complained to the staff. The participant became hostile and belligerent towards me. The staff did nothing about that behavior. That participant made a racial slur about me to a staff member within hearing distance and the staff member laughed about it and dismissed it. Once again, that's unprofessional. Another participant took over the media room and hid the remote control to the T.V.. I reported it and the staff did nothing. That participant started to aim his phone at me like he was either recording or taking pictures of me. I attempted to escalate the reporting of all of this behavior and was not allowed to speak to whoever was in charge and as a result, Altasciences will not admit that they've 86'd me and won't admit it. read more

It's been weeks since screening and STILL no $. 3-12 BUSINESS WEEKS they say. What is that? Their electronics take weekends off I guess. Transistors hanging out by the pool....go elsewhere unless you have endless funds. Why they are the ONLY ones who refuse to push a button to pay you is a mystery. Stressing out the subjects seems counterproductive. Good reviews are obviously planted by Alta. Good evening, On July the 2nd at or about 5:30 p.m. I was called by the charge nurse Kathy and director Sammy Armando to leave the premises due to false complaints from staff. I asked Kathy what was the reason for dismissal from the clinical study, and Sammy interjected and stated, " staff members said I use profanity in lieu of harassment." In addition to that, they had the Cypress police outside waiting on me when I never even committed any kind of crime.. I'm personally stating that I've never harassed, or used profanity, or any sort of foul language or anything threatening to staff or participants in any kind of way. I would love to speak with upper management in regards to this malfeasance that has occurred within the company of Alta Sciences in the Cypress location. I also was ejected from the study without pay. I had to leave the premises without any kind of compensation. I'm very appalled by how staff handle the situation and accused me of false allegations of harassing staff. I would like for this matter to be handled with the utmost importance, just as I contributed to the study with the utmost importance. I complied with all rules and regulations that were required of the study, with additional effort helping staff and giving compliments on how good they perform their duties. I wanted to volunteer for these studies and unfortunately management won't allow me to do any study now. It was going to be my first study, I was asked multiple questions and the manager couldn't assist me and literally because of my questions, I was denied access to all future trials. Out of all the studies I've done throughout SOCAL, WCCT is the most disorganized, unprofessional and hires the rudest staff. Sure, they pay decently, but the living quarters are akin to a prison. Oh, and btw, if you complain about any of their staff, they will retaliate against you and ban you indefinitely. SO if you have a problem, and you want to continue as a test subject, don't even think about voicing your concerns! WCCT is also bias against certain types of groups. This place is great. It had good food except the oatmeal! Yuk! Rooms are decent. You have a game room which is cool. Staff is awesome! I always like when Nesrin does my catheter and does my draws. No pain whatsoever and it flowed really well. She was the best and also actually talked to us which was nice. Prepare yourself for a long, descriptive review. I'm sharing my experience without sharing too much of the specific study itself because it will be different for everyone. I saw an ad from them on social media (Facebook/Instagram) and was very skeptical. Still, I applied knowing I could always opt-out. They called back and gave me a few options that I qualified for. I chose one that had the least testing and didn't require me to like sell a kidney. They emailed back some basic info about the study and we set up an appointment date for a prescreening. This was my first-ever clinical trial. Because of COVID, they follow more strict guidelines. This ensures that one infected patient doesn't infect the whole building. You must first get tested for COVID antibodies in order to just enter the building (not the most accurate test, but it's still something). This consists of a finger poke. Once you're clear, you can enter the facility. The wait time for this test varies from 10 mins to an hour, depending on how many people are in front of you. You have to do this EVERY TIME you visit them. It is not a one-time thing as of right now during the COVID pandemic. My prescreening experience: After entering the building, they give you some paperwork to fill out and things to read. This consists of basic information about yourself, a W9 tax form, and a more descriptive report of your specific study. After reading and signing all that, a nurse verifies to you that you understand what you're getting yourself in to and asks you some basic questions about your overall health. Next, you pee in a cup to make sure you're not taking any drugs. Then they hooked me up to an EKG where they measured my heart vitals, blood pressure, and all that good stuff. Next, I met with the doctor who oversees that study. He does a physical checkup on you. Lastly, they withdraw 3 vials of blood from me. So, on my first day of visiting, I got poked twice. Be prepared. This was all done just to see if you're physically qualified and healthy. If you don't qualify because you fail a test or something, they let you know and you cannot move forward. My inpatient experience: Now you pack some of your stuff for a sleepover. I suggest you bring a laptop or something to keep you busy because you'll have a lot of free time. How long you stay depends on your study. Mine was only for two nights. My routine tests were: (1) pee in a cup, (2) get weighed, (3) get vital signs (blood pressure and temperature check), and (4) blood withdrawal. I did this basically every single day. After the routine test, they gave me breakfast. All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are at a fixed schedule for consistency and has the same quality as public school cafeteria food in my opinion. After that, they showed me my room and you basically sit there just watching movies until your next meal or until they ask for you. You MAY or MAY NOT have roommates. Everything is really routine and at a fixed schedule. Around dinner time, I got introduced to my cohort, meeting all the people who would be going through the same experience as me. You can choose to socialize or just do your own thing. The first day was the most intense for my study because that was when all the testing was done. The other two days was just a chill rest day where I literally just got paid to sleep and watch movies. After being experimented on like Captain America, I finally went home. My outpatient experience: You do the COVID finger poke test to enter the facility. I did my routine test (1) pee in a cup, (2) get weighed, (3) get vital signs (blood pressure and temperature check), and (4) blood withdrawal. Maximum 2 hours and you are done. Summary: *BLOOD DRAWS. Each phlebotomist will be different. Some are good and some spin the needle around your arm like a compass looking for the New World. If you participate long enough, you'll recognize who is good or not. You can request to have a certain phlebotomist draw your blood if you don't feel comfortable with others and if they're available. I only had one bad experience which led to a noticeable bruise. *FOOD. The food is different every day. All food is "fresh" in that it didn't come frozen like something you'd buy at Costco. Some days had food like brown rice, salmon, and veggies, or enchiladas. *CLEANLINESS. What I found worrisome was that masks inside the facility was NOT mandatory. Some patients wore masks and some did not. All WCCT staff, however, did wear masks. The facility, bathroom, and showers were clean. *ORGANIZATION. Everything is a set schedule. Some staff members were new so you can expect some disorganization and long wait times. *PAY. ~$2600 check for my one month study. In reality, I only went to that facility 8 times. You can have it mailed to your address or you can physically pick it up. Your pay will vary depending most likely on the severity of your tests and the length of the study. read more

I've been trying to call every day for the last 5 business days that were not holiday or holiday substitute, but none of the 3 coordinators have picked up, nor answer my voice mail. If you screen for a study here screen, also screen somewhere else as well for a back up. This is the most unorganized Clinical Trial company in the country. The chances of the study that you're screening for to be cancelled or postponed are MUCH MUCH higher than other Clinical Trial company and that's probably because they post, and screen subjects for studies before the Sponsor finalizes it with these ridiculous waiting list. I've been doing trials here off and on for 11 years and usually opt to go to Celerion in Arizona or Paraxel in Glendale or elsewhere in the country before I give AltaScience consideration I'm somewhat of a local living 30 miles away. The payment system can be hit or miss as well as far as being on time. You used to get a check when you walked out the door no matter how short the study was. Those days are over. I will say that they have improved the facility with the addition of a Game Room and additional laundry facility. The food has become worse over the years with new caterers. read more

I'm dinging them a couple stars for their lack of professionalism in communicating with me. Prior to scheduling the screening appointment I asked if it was required of me to have a second Covid shot and if yes I could go take it. The person on the other line assured me it wasn't necessary. I take the day off from work to undergo the screening process, which is 3-5 hours long. You go in on a fasted state. They collect several vials of blood, check your blood pressure, collect your DNA, weigh you, and send you to another location for a chest XRay. After the screening I await a week for their call to see if I qualified for the group study. They never called me and the date for the in person stay was fast approaching. I needed to know if I qualified so I can let my employer know two weeks in advance since I would be gone for two weeks to participate in the study. Two weeks pass since the screening. By this time if I ask for two weeks off it would be too short of a notice for my employer. Nevertheless, I call Altasciences a second time. They have the results of my blood work and tests. I didn't qualify. Their reason was because I don't have the second Covid shot. Again, they are very unprofessional in their communication. The studies offer good monetary compensation at the expense of your time. Out of respect for my employer I need to know under a reasonable amount of time if I qualify. As soon as they receive my test results they should have let me know. I don't think I'll apply to any of their studies anytime soon. There's not enough time given to plan ahead to participate. If you are unemployed or are at liberty of taking several days from your schedule then go for it. read more

About a 2 month back I did a study , during my visit the coordinator Anthony Nyguen gave me a sheet for pay periods i has asked if the pay periods were exact or hypothetical, Anthony replied exact. With that being said I was fine. I've gone there several times before during those occasions I always got paid on time. However this study with Anthony it seems as though he can't keep up with his studies and pay participants on time after he gave paperwork he created with exact pay periods the staff whose there don't know or can't find the checks and Anthony acts like he's not aware that he needs to have checks printed prior to the next following visits. He told me my check would be mailed out Friday, it wasn't there's mail picked up on Saturdays yet it wasn't sent out. I called today June 20 I spoke to Anthony he had told me my check was mailed today and there's no mail in observance of the holiday Anthony lied to me about the check being sent out Friday and today. It seems to me Anthony needs a write up for his actions. So Mercedes or Melissa if you read this I will gladly take his position as a coordinator and do his job efficiently and effectively I know time points and vitals and everything that I've done as a patient for years. I will raise the bar on standards for the lazy misleading coordinators you have currently on your roster. If he is the face for your company his not doing the company justice by his poor performance and deserve a 2.00 decrease in his pay as message to treat your customers better. read more

This company is incredibly unreliable when providing payment. If they say it will take 7-10 business days for your check to arrive it'll usually take much longer. They'll tell you what you want to hear to get you in the study but once you've dosed they have a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to compensating you, in a timely manner. I qualified for the healthy females study so I went in. I was supposed to be there for a week. They confiscated tons of toiletries and my dairy digestives and made me throw it away since my friend had dropped me off! They wouldn't even allow me to get it when I was done with the study! Very rude staff here. They are really strict during meal times and serve horrible food that isn't healthy at all! They wouldn't let me leave to walk outside and get fresh air! Bed time is at 9 pm and super early. With 6 people in bunk beds in one room, it was pretty difficult to get any sleep. The 2nd night and day, they restricted our water intake. It was really difficult and we were all super thirsty. Then they told us they were going to get a blood sample every half hour! How horrible is that?! The nurse poked me 4 times but was unable to get a blood sample. Then the doctor poked me 4 more times and still couldn't get enough! They said my veins kept collapsing. Both my arms were bruised and sore. Then they told me I was out of the study! I took time off from work to do this study and was really mad when they took me out of the study and told me I wouldn't be paid at all! Worst staff, very rude, and inconsiderate people.
