Katie Stein has been the main specialist who has worked with me in the organization, and she has been so incredibly accommodating. From the very beginning, she was very detailed and patient in answering the questions I posed. From encouraging me to try out different versions of the hearing aids before I bought them, to sculpting molds, to sourcing some of the problems I was having after I bought them (eg: battery issue), then cleaning them without my asking, her customer service has just been out of this world. They do not care if you can hear with the instrument they get for you. They pocket your money and send you on your way. Orlando Hearing Center goes above and beyond to ensure you walk out with properly fitting hearing aids, ones that are made for your hearing loss, and with a satisfactory hearing test. Although I have lived in MA and SC, I continue to travel to FL to see this audiologist. No one compares. My grandma (who is italian) asked me to find a specialist in the US to help with her hearing loss. She had spent thousands on hearing aids back home and they did not help. I found this place, called and Laura was extremely kind and scheduled an appt for us. My grandmother is 86, cannot hear and doesn't speak english. We arrived on time and patiently waited for over an hour for Dr. Taylor. When we were finally called in, immediately I explained to him she didn't speak english, and so I'd have to translate everything. I won't go into details, but he was one of the rudest, most obnoxious, least patient people I've ever met. His tone and attitude indicated either extreme bad mood or simply an issue with his temperament. He was rushing us, wouldn't allow me to explain to my grandmother what was happening. He became especially rude when we told him she wasn't dropping $4000 for a hearing aid until we made sure it was working and she could hear. He wasn't having it... After he yelled at grandma for the 3rd time because she wasn't following his instructions, I had had enough, so we got up and walked out. It was beyond upsetting to see how he was treating my grandma. Unacceptable. To make a long story short(er), we eventually went back in a few days later after Laura (who is a sweetheart) reached out to us and apologized profoundly. Since this was about helping my grandma, I put my frustration with his behavior behind. He apologized immensely when we arrived, but quickly his temper and rude behavior came back; it's astonishing that someone who works with elders could be so short-tempered and rude. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. They have other "branches", choose another one. In the end though, my grandma purchased hearing aids, and has been living happy, able to hear again. I was skeptical at first, but after several sessions with the professional therapists, and doing the homework exercises, I was doing better and not having the daily imbalance episodes. They were definitely getting less and less frequent. Now after two months going through the sessions with these very knowledgeable therapists, I am not having these episodes at all. What a relief it is. The therapy really does work! Everyone of the staff who I had the privilege of working with through my problems was wonderful. They were personable and would explain every step of the sessions to me. I cannot thank these folks enough for giving me back my stability and confidence. Renee had called offering this free hearing test. So off we went (they request the presence with your better half). We met Mike, who's a very nice fella that knows what he's talking about. We went through the test. And here I am - I thought I did very well! But of course, it's quite 'clear' that I, need, aid! Mike hooked me up to what a hearing aid would feel/sound like, and how I would hear sounds differently. It was a little strange, but I think I might be able to get used to it. But aid comes at a very steep cost - yes there are options, but if you know me, I'm seldom going to go bottom-rung. As well, the technology seems to advancing more for iPhone users than us Androidians. I haven't bitten yet, and will be unlikely to do so until I've checked out the alternatives, including Costco. But a copy of that 'ear' self-portrait by Van Gogh (or as the case might be, "earless") hanging in the waiting room - that was a laugh and a half!
