I just received the Ruger Bisley grips in Blackwood Checkered Fleur-de-Lis for my Super Blackhawk Hunter. They installed without an issue. Now, these grips provide me with better control shooting this revolver. The original grips were smooth and did not allow for single handed control as these checkered ones do as the checkering stops the slipping because they "grip" the skin. Bought some Falconia stocks with rosewood inserts for my J frame to replace the original Falconias with walnut inserts. With the latter, after several years of EDC, the the soft plastic on one side separated from the insert. I glued it back, but I didn't get it completely even. So, I thought, what the heck, for the price, just order new ones. These are my favorite grips for a J frame. They provide very positive purchase for a small boot grip and they look great. If this one ever wears out, I'll buy another Falconia from Altamont. read more

Ordered a set of Ruger grip inserts in their super blackwood. Wow, very disappointing. I understand all of their customer service arguments .. natural materials, accept dye differently, can't grantee color, but when the difference is so great that it totally changes the appearance then its a defect. Instead of a gray and black alternate laminate I received a pair with one side totally black and the other you have to angle in the light just right to see a very small streak of gray. To my way of thinking they've misrepresented their product. So, they wanted me to fund the return and said they do their best to match my expectation, but again no grantees. Finally they agreed I could return, pay the postage and still end up with the same thing. Not, with I'd call good customer service. They've lost a customer. Buyer beware. read more

Absolutely the worst quality fit and finish I've ever experienced in over 25 years with Altamont grips. Emailed and called spoke with Heather in customer service she had an excuse for every concern I had, she even blamed the wood said they are having trouble sourcing the wood. The grips I received did not fit, the finish was horrible. They were suppose to be silverblack which use to be laminated color variations of exactly as the name says silvera and black. The ones they sent me after taking 3 weeks to ship were black finish looked like paint or very heavy stain. When I unboxed they looked to have been used or seconds the black had chips and defects under the chips it was orange I believe it was a type of filler. They were not smooth that I've come to know Altamont to be, rather they were rough and looked like they used 80 grit sandpaper. Bottom line they are not what Altamont has always put out in the past. Looked worst than the lowest grade import grips. Heather in customer service chose to not listen or even bother to help, other than make excuses and blame everything accept Altamont for producing and sending out this terrible product. Very sad and disappointing she represents them in customer service, might even be the problem. Nobody seems to care at Alatmont, I guess they have enough business with firearm manufacturers that they done care about the other sales. after many years of praising and purchasing over 50 sets of grips for my revolver collection I'm done. Thanks Altamont for tying up my $72 dollars for a couple of months and sending a garbage product. read more

I ordered 2 sets of grip for my Ruger new vaquero and broke one installing it. My fault because I didn't read the instructions first. ordered the second set and installed correctly but one side cracked because of burr on stud of frame. I ordered and received classic panel super rosewood Mexican eagle design checkered grips for my Ruger Blackhawk 357 magnum. They were reasonably priced, showed up in a timely manner, and fit like a glove. The checkered pattern really makes it easier to hold onto. I should also mention that they arrived with three different length screws to be sure of a good fit. These grips are beautiful, well made, and I couldn't be happier. read more

I wanted a sexy wooden grip for my S&W 686+ so much that I almost spent $900 to get the S&W 686+ Deluxe version. I even asked my local gun dealer to order one for me. But when it came in I decided not to buy it because the one pictured in their ad did not look like what they special-ordered for me. Fyi, as I understand it, S&W only sells the "Deluxe" version in the short barrel length. The rep at my local dealer was very professional though. He told me to look for after-market wooden grips and even put me on to a few online sites. I looked at all sorts of them. But the Grips I found were nearly twice the price of what Altamont sells ... and there was no comparison to their quality and selection. I ordered the "Combat" Rosewood Checkered Fleur-de-Lis Grip with the optional carved S&W Logo (only $10 more and SO classy). You can also get a custom metal S&W one but I thought the carved one was classier. The fit and finish of the Grip I got was beyond my wildest expectation. Installation was a snap, literally. I say this because their manufacturing techniques are so precise that the Grip nearly "snaps" together onto your gun. They include 2 seating pins and 3 screws (so that you can select the screw that gives the best fit for your gun). If I were to be overly picky, that screw is candidly the only thing I would ask them to change. I would prefer to have it less visible (even though it is very small and under your right hand when you hold the gun). While I understand that it is only visible to me, it IS visible to everyone I show my 686+. And trust that I will be showing this grip to everyone as it is so beautiful. But in the broad scheme of things this is totally a nit. I am beyond satisfied with my new grip: its quality, value, and Altamont's customer service. (My grip was out of stock when I ordered it but they immediately replied with several options. I chose to wait for the one I wanted ... and it was very much worth the wait ... and they even delivered it faster than the timeframe they quoted!) I like it when a business is so professional ... i.e. "Under Promise but Over Deliver".
