Actually I'm not quite sure what "hale" means, but the dairy cattle look very healthy and happy. The Christmas tree selection was outstanding, the service prompt and friendly. This giant of a fellow, must have been 7 feet tall, expertly tied the chosen tree to the top of our vehicle after a fresh cut. Very popular place, a couple days after Thanksgiving they had already sold out of trees over 10 feet tall.

Most of the sunflowers were gone but I was able to cut a few for a vase at home. I can't imagine how pretty it was in full bloom. There were still raspberries to pick and beautiful wildflower fields to pick from. There is a corn maze, pumpkin patches and a fun enchanted garden to wanter through. You're not allowed into the orchard unless you have,and pay for a bag or two. Each person has to have their own bag which, I think is a little overkill. There are two different sizes, small and large. Maybe because it was late in the season the Orchards were pretty picked over. Especially the second Orchard Way in the back that you had to walk quite a ways to get to. There were no discernible good apples there. We were very disappointed. So we went back to the first fenced in Orchard. There are tables outside and two modern farmhouse type buildings where you can get snacks by donuts. They are both adorable. They have a beautiful little walkway up to the Orchard with a swing and a bench. We would go back. But I would probably go back earlier in the season. Nonetheless, the apples were absolutely delicious! Shadow to the employee who let us carry one small bag because of health issues. The first place that you go to to get the bags would not allow it. So, I just wanted to give him credit for being so kind.

They have acres of produce that they've been growing with an expertise that's impressive. Our group helped with weeding since it was too early in the year to do much else. It had rained the day before but most of the fields we worked in were dry. The last one was not. Definitely pack a spare pair of shoes for the drive home. They do offer bottled water if you don't bring your own and gloves/tools. The staff is super friendly and thanks the group profusely for our hard work. If you're here during the summer, you can stop at the Franklin beer garden down the road for refreshments afterwards.

It's about 75 acres of land that consists of planted plots, fruit bearing trees, fishery, somewhere there are goats and even a park area. They need people, volunteers, to help with the harvesting or gardening, etc. A nice sized group of people can really accomplish a lot for them and for those who need this food. I personally feel that no one should be hungry in this rich country of ours. And I love the fact they grow it - as you know many people on a limited income are cost conscious and the cheaper food is the stuff that comes in a tin can, box, or cellophane and is highly processed! From the ground?! Now this is how you feed the hungry. Our shift was about 3 hours and it's hard work. That may not seem long but the effort you put in - wow I just can't imagine the people who did this for a living all day for most of their lives. We are so dang lucky, y'all. Anyways, please check it out if looking for someplace to volunteer and if you are not averse to some outside work. It feels great having done it! Things to consider: - bringing an extra change of socks/shoes - towel if rainy/wet - baseball capping it - layers, layers, layers! You can always take off but it sucks if you can't add on - sunblock If looking for a spot to eat and/or get a drink after volunteering, The Hideaway is just south on 76th street, is casual and has great food and great staff!

We were several adults and were approached by four different employees with instructions on how to hold our bags, how to pick, where to pick even though rows have colored ribbons to direct you. It might have made sense if we would've had unruly kids in our party but that was not the case. Honestly, it was just odd and not worth the 40 min. drive. So sad because I love their apples. I think if they're that uncomfortable with people walking around picking apples, they should consider becoming a commercial orchard and not open it to the public. Maybe it's coming from a good place of trying to manage their property but again, we were simply walking down isles. FYI: The apple cider donuts are fantastic so you could just go in their store and get them and already-bagged apples and save yourself the lesson on to hold a bag.

The stand next to them had soup flights which I would have loved to try especially in the colder weather but they were not quite ready yet. The market was cute but very small. We bought a few things and ate there. We went into the biergarten when a band was playing and it was nice to sit and listen. If you are in the area I would stop by. Definitely less crowded than Chicago but I'm not sure I would drive all the way up there just for that.
