Excessive charges and poor communication. I brought in my cats to have their ears checked for infection. They only examined one cat I had to call back to clarify. They charged for 2 ear exams ($107) and additionally for a complete exam of both ($200) They charged an urgent care fee ($70) for a situation that wasn't urgent , I could have waited a couple days for an appointment and it was nearly 4 hours before they were finished. I was correct about the ear infection and no other issues. They sold me 5 ml Ofloxacin Otic($80). Later I found a 10ml bottle available on chewy .com for only $14. I asked to have the $70 urgent care fee removed from my bill but they refused. If I had been able to purchased the ear drops without a prescription I could have dealt with the whole issue for $14. My final cost was $450. Apparently inflating the bill is their standard practice. read more

We have a horse that is over 30 yrs old and unfortunatly we will have to put him down because he just can't walk anymore. Him living to that age is a testment to the way my wife cares for her animals and this is not a choice easily made. she has been calling Vetrinarians near and far and no one will do it for every excuse imaginable. But alpine said they would for a rediculas fee of over $1000. It's pretty bad that you have to beg to do something you dont want to do but then be taken advantage of in you time of need is pathetic way to be as a business. the vetrinary business really is not about helping people and their animals, its purely about money. they should be embarassed. read more

What a dumpster fire this place is. Started taking our recently adopted dog to this place back in August of 2020. Since then we have seen 3 different vets because his usual vet is "unavailable". But today there's only one vets name on the door plaque..... weird..... Back story...... Our dog has a few health/allergy issues and is on a special diet BUT getting this office to write any type of perception for his food is like pulling teeth. Our first prescription was written by Michael Foss on 2/8/21 for "Hydrolyzed Diet, via royal canine". Now fast forward to today, the last straw... We had our food supplier reach out to the vet to get authorization for our dogs food and in return it was denied by Cassi. The supplier said Cassi said no because the prescription is for a Hills brand dog food and that he has never been on royal canine. Our dog has been on the same Royal Canine food for about 6 months now. We tried calling the vet's office to request a prescription 2 times. After being told "we don't write paper prescriptions" from Cassi (which is illegal) We made the drive to the office to see what was going on. We were not greeted by anyone but welcomed with a eye roll from Cassi and another unmasked receptionist by the name of Haley. When we let them know why we were there Cassi replied "I haven't even been able to get up, our doctor is in a surgery and I need approval. What spot number are you in? You can wait outside." After not liking her response We then requested our dogs full record and all previous prescriptions. She confirmed and We stepped outside. After waiting outside their office for about 10 minutes We heard the front deadbolt latch shut. WHILE WE WERE WAITING OUTSIDE!!! Finally after about 10 more minutes a tech named MaryJane came out with the prescription we requested and our dogs file. While looking over the prescription we found an error and asked for it to be changed. While MaryJane went inside to fix this we started looking over our dogs file. Things looked normal until we got to page 5. We had to go into the clinic and ask the two very rude receptionists who's signature was on this note. They confirmed it was their vet. Look what Michael Foss D.V.M wrote, "3/27/21 - very impatient for prescription". This is very comical to me. Because for a vet office who should actually care for pets and owners you sure do have a weird way of showing it. Your team sure is unprofessional, slow to respond and really a dumpster fire of a clinic. If there's any advice I could give anyone, it would be to steer clear of this office.. read more

It is dangerous to take your pet to this veterinarian clinic. They killed my dog by misdiagnosing them. They gave my dog medicine that lead to the disease spreading rapidly and didn't give them the medicine they needed to heal. The lab results clearly showed he had a specific disease and they still didn't treat him correctly. After having a few other veterinarians review this case they were shocked by the treatment plan my dog received & this clinic is currently under investigation by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining State Board. I truly believe any pet going to this facility is in danger due to their incompetence care. read more

Dr. Foss and his staff were great. I was visiting the area when my pup started having severe pain. We were camped in Stevenson; and it was a Saturday morning. I called before they opened and got their exchange service. They told me to call back in 10 minutes when the office opened. We decided not to wait to call and drove to the Hospital. When we arrived, we were able to see Dr. Foss right away. Dr. Foss was knowledgeable, personable and helpful, and his exam fee was reasonable. read more

Things have changed. I just moved back to town after 10 years away and went back to Alpine because I liked Dr. Foss. If you are lucky enough to see him, I assume he's still great. However... the office itself is dirty, the staff is about as excited to see you as a wet washcloth, and if by chance you are one of the wildly unfortunate few who get to see the new vet/sub vet Dr. Bob, just be aware that he's an anti-vaxxer who will charge you for the privilege of telling you he's not going to inoculate your dog. Not really sure why the office staff didn't tell us that when we made the appointment FOR THE VACCINATION. Also, when I called to complain about the bill, I was told that I was given a "discounted rate" of $50.84, even though they agreed that there had been no exam. There are so many great vets in this valley but Alpine is off my list. read more

I was at mt Adams with my family and dog .sassy well she decided to jump out of the car window. And I called alpine veterinary clinic . They called us wright back and we took sassy there because she was bleeding bad .and they were the closest to us . Well when we got there everything was going good .then we were told a thousand dollars . But there was no way to come up with that money .so they agreeed to $600 dollars. And we went to get something to eat. When we got back a half hour later. It was like he didn't do nothing but stop the bleeding and it was like her wounds didn't even get cleaned.and looking at them today there is gravel still stuck in her wounds .so I am going to take her to a vet for a second opinion today . So please don't let your feelings are love for your animal get in the way of your better judgement!! Like we did we should of brought her home . And saved 300 dollars . So I would not recommend this place to anyone .. read more

I'm incredibly impressed by and grateful for this veterinary clinic! Everyone who works here is happy to be there and extremely kind and helpful, both with the pets and their humans. I took my pets here for a routine check up, which was great, and which I would recommend to anyone. But I was even more impressed when I called recently saying that my pet wasn't feeling herself; Alpine Vet immediately said they'd work me into the schedule, and took care of my sick pet like she was their own. I have had similar experiences as Casey B with Lisa behind the desk. She has always been impersonal and rude every time I have made visits. I once asked a friend who knows the staff and was told they keep her because she gets people to pay their bill. Not the type of business I want to go to. On a side note, the docs are great...wish they would revamp front office. So happy that Casey B. has a happy ending after her experience. read more

Been going to alpine many years, but no more. Brought dog in for simple rabies shot. Cost $68!!! They hit me with a hidden $45 fee for a 3 minute 'exam'. No warning that was coming.Checked other vets in area, all considerably less. Some threw in exam for free. Found one for $16 total!!! Went back twice expressing my dissatisfaction, but all I got was 'sorry'. Apparently they are not concerned about customer happiness like their web page states. I hate to trash a local business, but I recommend going to another vet. Customers need to know. read more

Up until today I have never reviewed a single business on Yelp or any other site. However, I feel obligated to share with others my experience at Alpine Veterinary Hospital on the morning of 9/30/15. On the way to work I came across a severely neglected, shivering newfoundland (emaciated, mangy, infected nails and front teeth worn thin from chewing at a kennel) without a collar holding up traffic. Being the owner of a nearly identical (although much heavier and healthier) newfoundland I naturally stopped and picked her up. She collapsed in my lap as I drove the remaining two minutes to my job, where my coworker and I agreed she definitely needed medical attention. Wherever the dog came from, her owners had failed to provide necessary care. That much was certain. Having used Alpine a couple times in the past for general checkups of our newf I figured I'd take her in and ask if they could look her over, scan for a chip......HELP in any way you might expect from a compassionate vet. So.....we drove down to the clinic where I explained to a very unwelcoming woman named Lisa that I had found a dog in rough shape and I wanted to help. Before I had even finished the sentence "I found a neglected dog in the road on the way to work," she threw up her hands and said to "take it to the shelter--you can't just take somebody's dog" as she began WALKING AWAY. Needless to say this was not the response I would expect from someone entrusted to "caring" for animals. Even if the only option was to indeed take the dog to the shelter, I would have expected her to at least waddle out to my truck to look the poor dog over, or offer the shelter's number, or offer to scan for a microchip, or who knows what- maybe at least offer a pouty face and pretend like she gave a shit. But no. Rather, she decided that rudely implying I had abducted the dog would be the best route to take (never mind the dog was over a half mile from its "home," dodging trucks in the road and had no tags). Wasting no more breath on this woman, I went back out to the truck where my friend recommended Tucker Road Animal Hospital based on their treatment of his dog. We were welcomed there as if the newf had been a long time patient. The lovely employees gave the dog treats as they looked her over, determined she was indeed very neglected, scanned and found a microchip, and promptly called the owner and the sheriff. I had mentioned that I was willing to adopt the dog versus having to give her up to the shelter, to which they informed me they were required by law to notify the owner because of the chip. If the sheriff visited and found the home conditions to be unfit the dog would be sent to the shelter if another arrangement couldn't be reached. Long story short, a vet at Tucker Road Animal Hospital persuaded the owner to give up the dog to a loving home. After numerous phone calls, she connected me with the owner to whom I spoke for a few minutes and promptly went and picked up the dog on the way home from work. She got a bath, clipped nails and a warm bed inside the house where she's snoring right next to our other newf as I write this. Thanks to the compassionate people at Tucker Road Animal Hospital, we have another sweetheart of a dog in the family my wife and two little boys will love until the day she dies. Thanks to the cold-hearted woman at Alpine, they lost our business. I'm sure losing the meager amount we pay them every year won't matter to them at all in the grand scheme of things, but I will also tell every one of my friends to take their animals elsewhere to avoid dealing with their bullshit. A newf is the most kind, gentle dog in the world and this woman turned her back on the one sitting in my truck who actually could have used her help. We're a young family and I'm thankful I found which vet NOT to take my pets to early on. Good riddance. read more
