I almost took her to an emergency room over the weekend but waited till Monday morning to call Tucker when they opened at 8. By 9 am she was getting her exam and 3 days later they were able to do the diagnostic surgery. Really appreciated how Dr. Caldwell and the other vets communicated with me both before, during and after the surgery. They provided me with informational articles and spent lots of time on the phone with me answering my questions while I figured out a course of action. It was a cancer scare but turned out to be just stomatitis and she is now doing well with a daily dose of prednisone after an initial course of antibiotics.

She tried to charge me over almost 2 times the amount I was quoted when making the appointment and then was extremely nasty about it. The blond at this reception desk on 6-12-26 @ 4:20 was rude, disrespectful. immature, unprofessional and was completely void of any customer service skills and business ethics. I finally told her to stop getting smart with me and she said. "You did it first!" She believed because they gave me wrong information this was just miscommunication and I should be responsible for paying 3 times the amount quoted for the visit. She reminded me of a 12 year old without any common sense, who was just caught in a lie that she figured she could bully her way out of. I suspect she could have been the one that gave me the wrong information on the phone. I won't be subjected myself to that type of bratty behavior when there are other options. Before booking this appointment I called around and they were a little cheaper, but obviously it was just a bait and switch situation to get you in the door. I usually give my own vaccines but after being quoted a lower price for the exams that included getting the vaccinations during the visit, I went with the lower price that included vaccines despite having vaccines in my refrigerator. when I booked the appointment I confirmed with the person that I was understanding it correctly no less than 2 times because it did not make sense to me. Well, it turns out it's because she had it wrong and then they want the customer to pay for their mistake, If I get a full and sincere apology and this is made right, I am happy to remove this review. What I would really like to see is the employees take a course on business ethics. I'm just shocked that they didn't not care about customer service.

Things changed when they built a fancy new building of their own on the river, and now it seems to be mostly a monetary focus. My friend is furious that they "let her dog die" and I had my own bad experience when I brought my own dog in for evaluation on a suspected airway obstruction. Instead of looking at the airway obstruction, they ran over $400 in various blood tests-including pancreas for some damn reason! When it came time to address the airway obstruction, they said they don't have the specialized equipment- which is the whole reason I brought her in. We live in the Columbia River Gorge, and this is a semi-rural vet hospital, and they don't have the expensive equipment to diagnose a simple grass seed (which can be deadly). When I asked why they don't have the equipment I was told they just can't afford it, and nobody there is trained to operate it anyway. I told them I thought it would be a good idea to get this because grass seed problems are very very common around here. Apparently the nurse didn't like my audacity to suggest what I would like to see in a vet, and had the owner call me back and tell me off for 10 minutes, then tell me to come and pick up my sick dog - that they would not treat it. Wow. Just kicked a sick animal to the street. They were very careful to hold my pet back until I paid. Imagine, kicking someone out of your practice and expecting payment! But it showed me their priorities and that they do this OFTEN. I understand owners are upset when their pets become sick, and I wish they would also, and show a little compassion. Nope- out the door with you! Update: She was taken to another vet, who quickly noticed a swollen neck, so they put her under anesthesia and checked out her airways- what I wanted Columbia to do! They found no obstruction, but he as a type at inflammatory laryngitis cats get, and an experienced vet would know about. Treating with cortisol. I really feel like Columbia run all those vague tests to run up bills, and they started doing that when they moved into their new fancy building. It's so transparent. The young vets just starting out have no idea.

On September 14th of this year we were camping at Cottonwood Canyon. We live near Portland & had…read morejust arrived at the campsite. My dog Walter was involved in a nasty little altercation with a friend's dog and he was slashed on the side of his ribcage by one of her nails. I could tell right away that while there was no blood, a stitch or two or three would be the optimal treatment. Unfortunately it was after hours and while it was an ugly wound, we didn't consider this an emergency enough to cause delays in life-or-limb saving treatment for other animals, so we waited until the following day. My husband took Walter to My Family's Pet Doctor. Conveniently for us, they had a cancellation that morning and were able to get him in right away. We're not doctors, and we are especially not veterinary doctors. But we stupidly assumed he would be getting a few stitches under local anesthesia. Welp, as it turns out, we were dumb, this wasn't how it was done. It was done using general anesthesia. Walter received 8 stitches along with a thorough cleaning & inspection of the wound. We were sent home with pain meds & antibiotics. I removed Walter's stitches 12 days later and the would looks beautiful. There were no complications & we had no concern about infection at any time. The entire process was just under $500. And while this is a lot of money I feel it was more than fair & was honestly expecting it to cost more. In general, veterinarians & veterinary staff are woefully underpaid for their level of education and the amount of emotional & mental stress they are subjected to on a daily basis. We don't have pet insurance but hopefully at some point it becomes mainstream so that the people that care for our animals can be compensated more appropriately without it feeling like a "racket" to pet parents. Anyways, we appreciate Dr. Katie Sowell and her team so much for getting our dumb pooch stitched back up. He's back to his handsome old self.

I thought it was just a terrible stomach flu. Dr. Maichel immediately recommended an X-ray and sure enough my dog had chewed up and swallowed a toy . Having my dog undergo two surgeries was so tough but Dr.Maichel and her awesome staff assured me they would do everything they could to save my dog . It's been about a week post surgery and my dog is doing amazing . I am forever grateful that they saved my dogs life . They were knowledgeable, caring , and friendly all throughout the way . Not only did they let me pet him and tell him how much I loved him as he drew his final breaths, but they were genuinely caring and even sent me a sympathy card a few days later. I'll always appreciate that, as my cat meant the world to me. I've taken my dog there once, too, just for an exam, and they were equally nice at that time. I highly suggest The Dalles Veterinary Hospital if you're looking for a vet in the area.

Two weeks later, I take her to a different vet because she's not getting any better and she has advanced bone cancer and had to be euthanized. This office was filthy, i.e. blood droplets in the exam room and just general dirt and hair. I could have saved my dog two weeks of unnecessary suffering.
