Very upsetting experience. See pictures of Alpine's "repair" of two leaning fence panels. I hired them even though they were the most expensive bid because of some of their reviews, their pole in post technique, and because I believed Ron Clayton and his representation that they could do the repair properly. The pictures show the repairs needed and the shockingly bad repairs. I am particularly concerned about the notching of the new support posts, two of which had a depth of about 25% while a third was reduced by what looks like about 50%. I cannot see how the strength of the posts are not severely undermined. The posts are at different heights, the panels appear crooked, and I do not think that the pole in post method promised was used. The fence looks ugly. read more

Ron Clayton came to our house and developed a very concise quote and drawings of exactly where the fence would be on the property. Their crew showed up on the scheduled day and got right to work. We made some changes to the plan mid project and the crew took it in stride. They were efficient and left the site clean at the end of each day. I needed an 80 foot fence removed and replaced and contacted a number of companies in the area. A fair number never returned my call or returned it after a long delay. Of the four companies that came out, Alpine was head and shoulders above the others. Their price was about the middle of the highest and the lowest bid, but the estimator, Art, was very good and took into account the idiosyncrasies of my property and fence line and suggested solutions. First of all, I highly recommend this company to everyone who needs their project done professionally. It's Dec 23rd & I'm trying to get pipes to make a tether ball pole for a grandson. Their office guy is out with the flu, so I was told to come in early so the fencing crews would be at the office to help me. They cut the pipe and a larger one for a sleeve, and then drilled a hole for an eye bolt. When I was leaving, they realized I would have problems hauling that length in my car. They determined that they were putting up a fence near me, so put the pipes on their truck, followed me home, and then even carried the pipe into my garage for me!! What a positive experience to start my day!! They saw my needs and volunteered their my help - I didn't even ask!! So nice in a season of the shopping frenzy! Thanks so much! read more

They replaced a fence for us last spring. We called them back because we had wanted it higher off the ground, due to a misunderstanding. Just had a walnut color vinyl fence installed in Julian. The work was completed just as requested. The job was not a standard perimeter fence, there where existing retaining walls to drill into and several gates. The crew removed the old fence hauled it away as if it never existed! They completed per the scheduled two days and cleaned up the yard as if they were never here. Very impressed and I am very happy with the end results. read more

Alpine just replaced the two gate systems on my very hilly property. The look and workmanship are excellent and it was done quickly. Also a shout out to Bill Budd, the estimator. We had some tricky design issues and he made recommendations but also listened to our needs. The design materials, and hardware looks like something that will hold up for many years. They may not always be the cheapest bid you get, but it is reasonable. Get bids, shop around and take the time to find out who you're dealing with and what their customer service reputation is like. (Sister is submitting the review for her brother as my brother did all the arrangements to get the new fence. I agree with all of his comments.) This unsolicited recommendation for Alpine Fence Company is being submitted because of a recent cedar fence installation that was completed on August 17, 2018. The initial estimate provided by Ron Clayton was higher than what my sister and I had budgeted for and so we asked Ron if he could provide us with a second estimate. Ron provided us with a second estimate which took into account a lower price for the total job with an upgrade in the quality of cedar used in the fence construction. Though Alpine Fence Company was not the lowest bid we received, my sister and I selected Alpine Fence Company because of their willingness to negotiate with us in a fair and honest way and because of the reviews we came across from other customers on internet. The fence crew was comprised of two brothers named Bounsy and Thongdy. These two young men were professional, accommodating and on time. They removed the old fence and took great care in protecting our shrubs along the fence line. They were very conscientious about cleaning up the work area when they finished for the day. Though our fence was of the basic "estate" style, you can readily see the high quality of cedar used in the construction of our fence along with the professional craftsmanship that went into the construction. (It should also be noted that when Ron Clayton was shown a "spire" missing from a rod iron fence that we had previously installed over 20 years ago, Ron provided us with two "spires" for the rod iron fence at no additional cost.) For the reasons stated above, my sister and I would highly recommend Alpine Fence Company to anyone considering installing a fence. read more

I had a simple job, just a straight fence 65 feet long to replace an old damaged concrete wall that had become unsafe. Art wrote a fair quote, Eddie and Enrique put up the fence faster and straighter than I could have imagined and I'm very happy with the results. Art was especially patient with me since we had to coordinate the fence work with the removal of the old wall. He stopped by my site the day before the fence install to ensure the site would be ready and that there wouldn't be any surprises. Comprehensive, professional, patient and skilled. My neighbor was replacing her entire fence including the line that separated our properties. She decided to stop her fence 4 feet short of where our current gate was and because we have a large dog, we needed to complete 4' and add an 8 ft section with a gate to close off our yard. We were going out of town a few days after the fence was supposed to be finished and needed a functioning fence for our house sitters so we were limited in options. First issue with this company was that Bill initially quoted me for 12 feet of fence at almost $1900. For reference, previously this year with a different company I paid $2200 for an entire 65' of fence on the back of my property. I told Bill that this seemed high and asked for a rebid with a change in the gate type, and he said, oh that won't change the price much. He came back with a bid of $1000. Still absurd but almost half the price! During this entire process I had to call him over and over to get any information from him and his attitude made it seem like I was inconveniencing him. The other issue was the 12' of fence we had installed, we asked for 8' of it to be a height of 5'. Of course that section was placed the very last day on a Saturday and we could not be present for the install. When we got home, the entire section was 5'6". It's one thing to be off by an inch, but 6" is considerable. The section is not what we asked for (and repeated to him and the workers multiple times), and for how much we paid, it is very unfortunate. So a company that is overpriced, unfriendly, difficult to get in touch with, and produces work inconsistent with what you asked for, is not a company I would ever use again and would not recommend them to others. read more
