We understand that their restaurant is no longer operation except for breakfast. But, if you are able to reserve breakfast, it's well worth it. We loved the breakfast on the outdoor patio of the main historic house. It is a peaceful setting and the food was excellent. Kudos to the chef/server Kim for her work. We will certainly stay at Mountain Magnolia again and recommend their facilities to anyone visiting Hot Springs.

We booked a 2-night stay at Mountain Magnolia bed & breakfast for June 11-13th. This was our second stay here as our first time was three years prior. We even booked the same upstairs corner room with a huge deck and balcony. The weather during our stay was humid and rainy. Upon checking in on an early Friday evening, the room appeared clean and welcoming. We immediately took showers to wash off the sweat and rain from our afternoon clay shooting. There is a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, however we didn't use it because of the stains on the tub floor. Even though it was most likely clean and sanitary, it wasn't screaming "come soak in me" the least bit. After a terrible dinner in town, we visited the hot springs hot tubs before coming back to our room for the night. It's unfortunate that the Inn did away with the restaurant they use to have down stairs. I loved that restaurant; it was incredibly convenient and they offered an amazing menu. Really bummed because the restaurant was half the appeal. Day 2, we woke up later than usual, but the keeper had our breakfast waiting for us on a tray downstairs. Yogurt and granola, blueberry bran muffin, mixed fruit bowl, coffee, and a hard boiled egg. Yummy. I had booked a massage with a gal that came to the inn around 11 am, and she did an amazing job. Then we traveled down the road to the rafting place and rafted the river. By the time we returned to the Inn, the keeper was gone for the night. Which was fine, except we were in desperate need of fresh towels. The bath towels they provided us with the room were soaking wet and dirty. We searched the entire Inn looking for a linen closet with no luck. So we finally made the decision to "borrow" the towels from the downstairs room that was clean and had no residents. At least, we think it had no residents. Ugh. I really hope we didn't take some poor couple's towels who had a super late arrival. Whoever thought that 2 towels for 2 adults for 2 nights was enough, was so wrong. I need 2 towels just for myself for 1 night. Lol. Anyway, after stealing towels from another room (don't worry, we left a note), we showered and headed to bed. Breakfast was available to us the second morning, but we were only interested in the coffee before hitting the road home. Here's a list of the positives: Parking is easy. The rooms are big, clean and welcoming. They provide WiFi. Checking in and out is easy, smooth and hassle-free. The balconies provide a beautiful view. The corner balcony is huge. The bed is super comfortable. There's air conditioning, a ceiling fan and extra fan in the wardrobe. There's a fireplace and extra blankets (also in the wardrobe). There's hangers in the wardrobe, in case you forgot to bring some. They also put the hair dryer in the wardrobe. They gave you a built-in treasure hunt game called "where is everything?" You have access to power outlets to charge your electronic devices. Breakfast is awesome. The inn keeper is nice and welcoming. They provide you with shampoo, conditioner and body wash in a wall dispenser. And the bathrooms have a jacuzzi tub. Here's a list of the negatives: Cell service is inconsistent (which isn't really their fault, it's just a spotty location). They only allow smoking in one area on the premises, and that area doesn't include your private balcony. You can only use the fireplace in the winter. They only provide you with 2 towels, which isn't enough for an extended stay. You could probably get more towels by asking the inn keeper, but make sure you do it in the morning when she's around and not evening when she's gone. The tubs could be cleaner. There is no tv in the rooms. The wardrobe in the room has no handles, making the opening of the doors quite a hassle. The drawers in the bottom of the wardrobe are broken, making them unusable. You can't turn the ceiling fan on high without it shaking uncontrollably, giving you the feeling of being in a deadly earth quake. The bathroom is small with no counter, leaving little room to place your makeup or toiletries. And the balcony is very unpleasant in the rain (they need to provide a table umbrella, or small gazebo of sorts). Normally, one would look at the negatives and think "well that's not so bad." However, when you see the price tag for a night's stay? That little stuff becomes a much bigger deal. We paid a little over $250 per night. The price tag was WAY too high for what they offer, in my personal opinion. With all that being said, I still heavily recommend this inn. We were told that the place is getting new owners soon, so hopefully they address the issues and maybe lower the price. We will definitely be back.

However, we were unsuccessful at…read morereaching them, and we found this new place on Bridge Street, so we figured what the hey, let's give them a shot. We stayed a Friday night in late January. I will start with the pros, as there aren't very many. For starters, the price was affordable and reasonable. The management was great with communication. The room was very clean and kept. They provided snacks, a mini fridge, coffee and toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body wash, towels and toilet paper). There's also a tv in room, but no Wi-Fi. Now that the pros have been covered, let's touch on the cons, because it basically goes downhill from here. On the night we stayed, it was 27 degrees outside. Upon entering the room around 4:00 pm, the heater was on and the room was FREEZING. We thought maybe they just turned it on and it would heat up with time? Nope. We huddled under the covers until it was time to go to dinner. By the way, they do NOT provide additional blankets in the room. The floors are concrete with tile overlay. The toilet seat is porcelain. Imagine all of that in 27 degree weather. Yeah. My husband said that the heater was the the equivalent of someone blowing over a light bulb and expecting it to heat a room. After being away for dinner, and an hour long hot tub, we returned around 10:00 pm and the room was still freezing. So we turned the shower on full blast hot and opened the door so the steam could fill the room. That appeared to bring the temperature up a couple degrees, but the bathroom had no ventilation so there was major precipitation dripping down the walls. The shower was TINY! If you need to shave your legs, you best forget that idea. Nowhere to prop your leg except the shower floor, where the water will run down your body and rinse any shaving cream you might've had. And if you try to use the wall as a prop, the shower curtain will assault you in many violating ways. Also, the water initially flooded the bathroom floor as there was nothing but a curtain to stop it. Just an awful design flaw on so many levels. They definitely do not have tankless water heaters as we did run out of hot water before finishing our showers. I should also mention that the bathroom sink has zero counter space for any supplies you may have (makeup, toiletries, etc). When we laid down to finally get some sleep, we noticed a huge gap (with light shining through) all the way around the door. Absolutely zero insulation keeping the cold outside. After freezing our asses off all night, and making several trips to the car to warm up, we woke up stiff and in severe pain. The heater ran constantly, yet it was warmer outside than in the room the next morning. Long story short, this 'might' be a great stay in the summer time. But I HEAVILY recommend you avoid this place at all cost in the winter time. Unless of course you're an Eskimo who prefers the cold. We might be back in the summer to give it a second chance, but even that is debatable.

Upon entering you're greeted by a warm fire, which instantly puts you at ease. There are gorgeous views of the river and downtown Marshall from each of the rooms, but room 3 definitely has the largest vista. The bathrooms are updated, and well stocked with towels, which is awesome because I typically ask for extra towels when staying in a hotel. After you have a delightful nice of rest on an ultra comfy mattress throw on something to make yourself presentable and treat yourself to a delightful bit of breakfast. Each time we've stayed here they were serving an absolutely delicious sausage quiche. I don't know if this is a specialty, or if we've just gotten extremely lucky with our timing! The owners, John and Kerstin are delightful folks who are happy to share their home. They rebuilt the old inn to the modern delight it is today, and their pride and love is clearly evident. Whether you're a WNC local looking for a quick get away, or travelling to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a chance to visit Asheville and its surrounding towns, you owe it to yourself to stay here at least one night!

We would have loved to have stayed longer but we considered ourselves lucky to get a room at all during the peak Fall season. We stayed in Room 9 which is on the third floor loft with an interesting pitched ceiling but no windows. The room was great for afternoon napping and it was just footsteps away from the rooftop deck. For a longer stay we would have probably preferred a room on the second floor with windows. I love American history, architecture and Americana so staying in this old circa 1904 bank was fabulous. We even took a peak at the old bank vault that is now used as a wine cellar and pantry inside the restaurant. The hotel staff here is top notch. Everyone was so welcoming and I appreciate that the hotel called before our stay to see if we wanted to make a reservation in The Bistro. The Bistro is a small, quaint, refined restaurant that books full for its dinner service so it's nice that they make sure hotel guests have an opportunity to book first. Our dinner in the Bistro was fabulous - I had the filet while my husband had the Ettouffee. We also had breakfast at The Bistro the following morning which was also very good. In addition to the five-star staff and cozy room, we loved the location of The Everett Hotel. It was walking distance to everything in town including shops, restaurants and the train station. It was also a short drive to Smoky Mountain National Park. As an added bonus, it is right next door to the Swain County Heritage Museum. We were conveniently able to park behind the hotel. Other conveniences we appreciated were the filtered water and coffee in the hallway. A special shoutout to Daniel who made us feel so welcomed.

It did seem quite dated (ie 90s era brass, carpet, old phone, etc.) with the interior finish. That's probably the biggest issue here. But, it seemed very clean (perfect health score) and is still nice. The only thing that would improve the hotel is to update the interior finish in the rooms. Otherwise, it's good and you'll be comfortable here. I really liked that they give you a $8 voucher for the nearby coffee shop. That's a nice perk since the coffee is better than what you'd find in a regular hotel. Also, they have 3 free Tesla chargers. That's a big benefit if you have a Tesla and want to charge on the road. Overall: Great hotel with a lot of charm. Worth a stay.
