Take the chair lift to the top of the mountainwhich in itself is good fun and provides spectacular views of the beautiful Bavarian countryside and surrounding mountain scenery. Don't get too relaxed though, you may hear the excited screams from those travelling down the coaster through the trees to your left. The coaster (self driven) is almost 3000ft from the start to finish. If you're up for a fast ride and your nerves can handle it, take your hands off the brakes and you'll reach speeds of 40 k/per hour. A fast ride may take you approx 5 minutes or 10 minutes if you go at a more leisurely pace. We went at the height of the summer school holidays. It was busy, but the queues for the chair lift kept moving and it didn't spoil our fun. If you want to go at your own steam to the top and the start of the coaster, then there's a beautiful walk along a single lane, winding road. It's just the rather steep incline you'll have to tackle, rather than the terrain. When you're at the top, there's a welcome Bavarian tavern for those in need of refreshments and a play area for smaller children, including trampolines. To be honest, we just wanted to ride the coaster a lot! The Alpsee coaster runs throughout the year too, so no excuse not to try come sun or snow. We can't wait to go back.

Amazing! We drove nearly an hour out of our way for the Alpsee Coaster, and it was well worth it…read more The drive here and the views alone made it worth it... it was so so beautiful and green and charming and picturesque, and when we finally made it to the coaster, parked the car and got out to admire the nature around us, I caught myself thinking that this was possibly the most beautiful place I've ever seen in person. Going in late September, we walked right up to the ticket counter where there was zero line - I don't know if they get busier during the summer months (judging by some of the photos on here, I'd say it does), but there was only a handful of other people around when we came. We grabbed our tickets for one ride on the coaster which if I remember correctly was like 12 USD or so, and made our way to the ski lift that brings you up to the top of the mountain. It took a good 7+ minutes to make it up to the top, but the ride was gorgeous. You get an awesome view of the Alps and the water and the sheep grazing below you. Once you've arrived at the peak, there is a cute little restaurant there where you can grab a snack or drink, and there was a trampoline pit and a park. We made our way straight to the coaster though, where the man operating it took our ticket and briefly explained how to go faster or put on the breaks... and with that, we were on our way! The coaster takes a good 3-5 minutes to go through, which is awesome since I was expecting much shorter than that. You control your own speed, but I recommend going as fast as you can the whole way down because it was a blast and I think going slow would definitely take away from the experience. There was one point where I put on the breaks a little so I could enjoy the beautiful scenery I was rolling through, but for the most part, it was game on. I was a little iffy before we got there on how safe this thing was and remember reading somewhere about flying out if you go too fast or something like that, but it was definitely safe and there were even toddlers riding with their parents. And I'd even say that people who don't really enjoy roller coasters would probably like the Alpasee coaster since you don't do flips or have big drops or anything. Definitely recommend checking out the Alpasee coaster if you are in the general area, and I wish we had gone through a second time! So fun!
