Picked up my dogs today after a 10 day stay in the care of Camilla and her crew. The first night one of my dogs experienced an unexpected health concern which I was promptly notified about and informed that the issue had been discussed with their on call veterinarians already. Despite the fact that the boarding arrangements were made for both dogs to share a kennel over the very busy holiday, they made certain to separate them so that the dog with the health concern could be monitored closely until it was clear that she was doing well again. During that time, I regularly received updates and videos on the condition of my dogs which was great peace of mind. They also managed to work both my dogs in for nail trims before I picked them up and I know that at least one of them can be quite difficult to trim. Please - be hesitant before you board at Alpine. My son and daughter-in-law left their 2 dogs there for 10 days - only to receive a call on day 9 that one of the dogs had passed. The negligence comes because they never called them to let them know that she stopped eating. Had they been contacted they would have had her taken to the vet to see what was going on. A necropsy showed that she had a blockage. The vet would have been able to see what was going on. PLEASE - if you are using ANY kennel - make sure they call you if your pet has stopped eating!!! That is a huge red flag!!!!! read more

Pet Parents Beware: We boarded our two healthy, happy dogs at a place that we thought we could trust. Little did we know the nightmare that this would turn into. On January 20th we received two phone calls (which we didn't answer because we were sleeping) and a text message shortly after telling us that our 1 year & 3 month old puppy was dead. We didn't even know there was anything wrong. We were told Tuna had stopped eating two days prior, and that they didn't call us because they "didn't want to bother us". Those of you that have dogs and love them like your children will understand how ridiculous of a comment this was. Nothing in this world is more important than the health of our dogs to us. Had we been called, they would have been instructed to take her to the Vet immediately and the blockage in her intestine could have been found. Instead they let her sit in her kennel for two days with blood filling up her abdomen, in excruciating pain. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone. They obviously think they know your dogs better than you do. Had we been called at the first sign of trouble this may have been a very different story. I would NOT EVER recommend this place nor will I ever use this place again. I could list so many complaints about how terrible this experience was, but it would be too lengthy. Con: He's not so great with people, he sometimes seems downright unfriendly. His facilities are dated to the point of retro not-so-chic, and the place stinks of frightened/sick animals. Overall: Ask anyone in the W'burg area, Dr. Means is the place to take your dog or cat, as long as you can deal with the fact that it's not some pretty, sterile, over-decorated veterinary that looks like a dentist's office. This is a hard-working vet that provides top-notch care & won't charge you an arm & a leg. I had to take off one star for the smell in the waiting area (it really is pretty bad) but other than that, top recommendation. read more

I'm not sure how I heard about Alpine Clinic, but I did and I'm so thankful! My cat, Wallie, has been going here for almost four years. I never have to worry that she will ever get anything less than the best care available. One of the big plusses is that the nurses spoke about how my cat is one of the prettiest cats they have ever seen. They might say this about all the cats they see, but as a proud papa, I loved that they saw how beautiful my little girl is. I humbly agree with that assessment!! I never had any problems with Dr. Means gruffness. He might not be a people person, but that's okay, because I'm not either and besides that, he's not a people doctor. My cat gets the best care imaginable and that's all I want from a vet. Since getting my cat, I moved to KC, but still take Wallie to Alpine for her shots. The prices are so low, it's almost ridiculous. The same shots at the local vet would cost 5 times more than they do at Alpine. I highly recommend this place, but don't expect to get warm fuzzies, because it's not about you, it's about your pet. If you can't handle stepping out of the spotlight for a minute, you should probably go someplace else. Animals are the stars here! read more

They helped me out in a bind with a short-notice 4-day boarding at a good price. That's why they get 2/5. The place stinks. I know it's a vet/kennel, but it's one of the more pungent vets I've experienced. Also, cash/check only? Is this 1975? Lastly, my dog wasn't bathed upon pick-up. He stank as well. MY wife and I have two Shelties (Missy and Bubs). Neither are very social and do not make up with people outside the family very easily, and there are a few within the family they are not especially fond of. Both were in desperate need of a good grooming so I decided to call Alpine and give it a try. I dropped Missy and Bubs off at 11, told the owner the dogs were not very friendly, and very nervous. He told me all dogs love him, just leave them with him and go home and everything would be fine. He call me at 2 pm to pick them up. I walked in to see Missy setting on his lap and Bubs snoozing on the floor at his feet. I asked him when he had done with my dogs??????? Obviously these were not mine - making up with a total stranger. I really like the owners, so do my dogs, and I was very pleased with the grooming. Alpine is not the most high end vet you will go to but the service they provide is outstanding. If you do a walk in visit be prepared to wait and hour or two, but the wait is worth it due to the significantly lower price than other vets around town. Dr. Means knows everything there is about cats and dogs and he will call you out if your not treating your animals correctly, to some people that can be off-putting but I admire that in a vet. He doesn't tells it like it is and gets the job done. The other staff members are also knowledgeable and friendly. There's a reason Alpines appointment list has about a month waiting list most of the time, and that's because they are the best in town. read more

Alpine is not your "bells and whistle" type of clinic and Dr. Means is known for being "not a people person", but I don't take issue with either of those. He is not rude or mean, just very straightforward, down-to-business and it's apparent that his clinic's focus is about the animals, not charming the owners. Given the insanely affordable prices offered by Alpine, especially in comparison with the high quality of care the animals receive, I'm perfectly okay with Dr. Means not being a schmoozer. He's great with the animals and isn't trying to price people out of seeking proper medical care for them. I believe he is in veterinary care for the right reasons. I've watched he & his staff work on my, and many other, animals and have always been comfortable with how they handle them. I also know several other people who use Alpine who have equally great experiences. I also appreciate that they offer walk-in services. Yes, they are busy and you have to wait, but I have waited just as long in other vet offices...and that was WITH an appointment. The only con, in my opinion, is that they are extremely difficult to reach by phone so if you don't live locally, therefore can't just stop in at a convenient time, be prepared to spend ample time trying to contact them. read more

I love Alpine. To be fair it is kinda smelly and unless you have an appointment you will wait a long time. I've heard from a lot of people that Doc Means is rude and hard to get along with, but I haven't run into this issue as bad as many make it sound. The trick is that Doc Means is a no nonsense man, don't try to make small talk with him he's not interested in it. His staff more than makes up for any of the Doc's unfriendliness, they are some of the nicest people around. He will however answer any and all questions that you may have in regards to your pets with valuable and factual information, so have an idea about what you want to know about your pets health. Doc Means is very focused on adequate care outside of his clinic and will treat owners that he feels are interested in providing this for their pets rather nicely, though still very matter of factly. I take all my pets to him because I know they will get the best care in the area with the best prices. An example of this is a couple years back my family dog, a large German Rottweiler, was hit by a car and we were not familiar with Alpine so we took him to Lifetime Animal Clinic on the South end of Warrensburg. They saved our dog, and provided quality care. BUT it also cost $800+ and they sent him home with a laundry list of medications. Now, compare this to last year when my dearest Beagle/Blue Heeler mix was hit by a car and we rushed him to Alpine. When we got him in we placed a $40 deposit for the surgery that was sure to come and I left a nervous wreck that it would be the last time I saw my best friend. At 11pm that night I received a call from Doc Means himself saying he had just finished surgery on my dog, that he was stable but the outlook was unclear and he was hurt pretty badly. As much I hated it, it was almost 2 weeks before the Doc would let me see my dog but it was because moving him around and letting him get too excited would worsen his condition. A little over a month later my little buddy came home to finish his healing and I paid my vet bill of $140. The boarding alone should have been more than that, Doc Means performed multiple surgeries, and watched over my dog day and night (I don't know when that man sleeps, no wonder people think he's grumpy lol). So please remember that despite how it may smell or look in his clinic, you are paying for the services of the vet not the decor and this is apparent in his pricing. Also note, the last time I was there they were a cash or check only facility so plan ahead for that. read more

We have had two cats spayed at Alpine and they did very well and it was very reasonable. Just called to check prices on an xray and possible set for a little kitten who may have a broken leg. All other vets are quoting me $160 plus,,,Alpine is $20 to $40 everything included. If you can sit and wait and handle some aroma, it is totally worth it to go here. Alpine has come highly recommended to me. Yesterday I took my kitty in with a bad upper respiratory infection. It was 12pm they closed at 12:30, and I was a dirt time customer. I called ahead and let them know the situation, and asked if there was anyway that they could get me in. I arrived at 12:25, I waited a very short wait, with prompt service. In 30 minutes my kitty had the best and thorough care, that he could have gotten. Within 30 minutes of leaving, he showed major improvement. Yes, Dr. Means isn't a people person, but he was very nice, very informative, and he helped my sick kitty. His staff was fast, and they all had a great dynamic. He runs a good ship. I was very impressed with the care, and I got out of there spending $31. Anywhere else, that's the office visit charge. I got more then my money's worth. I think that it's amazing that Dr.Means is only out to help Animals, not for himself. I will be back! read more

My daughter lives in Warrensburg, MO. Our 25 lb beagle/dachshund mix who now lives with my daughter. He had been sick for a couple of days and my vet recommended that due to his age, 10 years old, and his symptoms that we should have him looked at within the next day or so. My daughter called and they told her she could bring him in at 5 p.m. for a walk in. The first thing she noticed was that the place was dirty. The next thing she noticed was a sign that said We will not tolerate complaints about the wait. REALLY are you kidding me? Who puts up a sign like that? Once my dog was taken in by the techs, she lifted him on the table; keep in mind this dog is the most submissive dog ever. He is literally afraid of his shadow. He tried to get off the table so the tech muzzled him then she put a towel over his head. My daughter said that it sounded like he couldn't breath. They then very harshly flipped him on his side and took a skin sample. For heaven's sake, he is in there for throwing up, being lathargic and not eating. Then four techs and the vet proceeded to put him on his back and hold him down. He then peed and pooped on himself. During the 10 years that we have had and taken him to the vet, which has been many times, he has never peed and pooped on himself. This man should not be a vet. All the reviews say he truly cares about his patients and is extremely good with the animals as well. Well, I am sorry, but I have been to several vets and our animals have never been treated this way. This is absolutely appauling. I don't want any other animal to be treated this way. read more
