I am a Spanish native speaker and haven't flown on the right seat before I went to Hawaii. I was strugling with 'call outs' and handling the airplane before my checkride. Gene gave me about 10hrs of flight training and a few of ground, but I have to say that he went above and beyond with his efforts to help me pass my tests. Now I am living the dream in this paradise. You are absolutely only a number to this company, they do not care about their students or club members, just the money that they provide. The Monroe location is second in importance to the Concord location and such planes will be taken from Monroe and sent to Concord and reservations will be cancelled with no warning. The manager for the location is very inept and now does not even live in the country and because of this is very hard to get in contact with, but it appears that this is the point. There are very slow responses to complaints/questions and a total lack of care or sincerity from management when finally addressing issues. The planes are in OK shape (they are safe to fly, just old), but are down for maintenance issues very frequently. There are then large delays in getting the planes to the maintenance facilities which causes HUGE reservation/scheduling issues. 2 stars are given only because of the good quality of flight instruction that is given when you are actually able to get a reservation. However, instructors have been leaving due to the same issues (plane availability, inept management, etc). My suggestion is to go to Aerowood, which has a much better reputation and business model. I do not recommend FlyCarolina for anything other than casual flight instruction. If you are looking to become a professional pilot, stay away from here as you will be wasting a large amount of time sitting on the ground instead of flying.

FlyCarolina is still one of the best schools I have had the pleasure of interacting with. They are dedicated to maintaining their fleet, and put safety and quality maintenance above all else. And while this does lead to more maintenance delays than some schools, (all planes need maintenance), you can always trust that that you are flying safe, quality planes. Their greatest strength however, in my opinion, is how they are constantly looking to improve. Upgrading their fleet, their location, and their services. Truly a top-notch establishment.

Book a Discovery Flight and spend an hour or more FLYING a plane with the guide of a certified pilot (we had Jacob...he was so amazing) across the beautiful landscape of North and South Carolina. Imagine the fall colors from above or flying into a sunset. At only 2000 ft, you're high enough to where there's great visibility below. A great activity to bond with a child, a friend, or even for a first date. Maybe even take a few lessons if interested. I am not currently a gun owner, but I wanted to educate myself on proper usage and the laws regarding gun ownership. I didn't know what to expect but whatever my expectations were, they were greatly exceeded! They were novices such as myself in the class as well as current gun owners and prior military; this was a co-ed class. They had refreshments available, to include good coffee. This is a Black owned business, and I was happy to patronize. I also purchased a unit of pepper gel and a book during our break. We did not go to the range during this class but were told we could go on our own time. I tried to use the "contact us" section of the website to get info about scheduling my range practice. I did not get a response, but this review reminded me to look at pictures I'd taken during class. I have emails and telephone numbers for the instructors, so I'll be reaching out tomorrow. If you're considering taking a course or purchasing a fire arm, you won't be disappointed using Black Diamond.
