When we…read morefirst arrived, we were charmed by the historic feel of the place and also pleased with the amenities. Nice bathroom and furnishings. The owners added hospitality by having a full coffee service, snacks, and some cereal for a light breakfast. The house is also right on the central circle in Bardstown, so walking to restaurants was very convenient. However, this house is right on the main thoroughfare in Bardstown, and less than 50 ft from the road. The constant traffic noise made it very difficult to sleep, as the bed is located right next to the window facing the street. On Saturday, the noise was constant until after 2:30 am and on Sunday the noise did not abate until after 12:30 am. Each morning the noise started again about 6 am. This was a constant barrage of loud mufflers, pickups and diesel trucks. There is also a traffic light out on the street so we heard these noisy vehicles accelerating from the light. If you have an issue with noise at night I recommend that you investigate other properties. This room, with taxes and fees, was over $200 per night and I don't feel we got that type of value

I called a few months in advance and was trying to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday. I wasn't sure which tour he'd want so I called quite a few times trying to get as much information as I could, and every time I called everyone was extremely nice and helpful. We had Dan as our tour guide during the tours and he was fabulous, he made the long trip fun and entertaining.

Then Mary made us two outstanding bourbon cocktails! She made a mean Old Fashion that my husband loved with cherries and oranges. Mary made our visit a very pleasant experience!

Unfortunately, they only accept FedEx packages that already has a label affixed. However, the lady at the counter was kind enough to tell us about Horizon that provides service for all the major shipping companies (FedEx, UPS, USPS). She directed us and it was easy to find and even more helpful that they had a flag out front. Upon entry, the employee helped us determine the shipping costs for an international letter. I especially liked that he was able to tell us the cost that each service would cost. We did not end up using the service (FedEx) since it was too expensive - $119 for mailing an envelope with 2 pieces of documents internationally. ‍ Although we did not use the service, it is good to know that they are able to provide service for all the major shipping companies. I will definitely keep that in mind if I need to mail domestic FedEx items.

This downtown Bardstown tour/trek is more of a ghost hunt than all of the ones that I've attended…read morein our cities and states. The guide is Patty Starr, who I've heard about in the past. At times during the tour, I felt like I was in a seance, as she called out to "sweet spirits" and asked that they turn off the lights and such. I consider myself pretty open, but this was not what I was expecting. Patty and one teenage girl along on the tour too, brought ghost meters, which "picked up" several during the tour. The teenage girl and her parents were into it, but it just wasn't my thing. Reservation is done via phone. I tried several days to book the tour, the voice mail was full, but finally was able to get an answer the day before the trek. She said that sometimes there are large parties that show up and completely fill up the tour. So I went ahead and pre-booked our spots, which were $15 each. The tour started at Old Talbot Tavern at 8pm. I was surprised to walk up and see maybe 40ish people already there to take the trek too, so it's popular. It didn't appear that anyone was turned down though. We started outside and Patty talked a bit about her past and how she used to manage Old Talbot Tavern. Then we went in the tavern, and the upstairs Jesse James room. I had already been in there, and it's spooky up there, even in the daylight. That's where she started talking and trying to get the ghosts to respond. The amount of people on the tour was so large, that a few people were out in the hallway area. From there, we went into an upstairs room/conference like are where we were able to sit down while she dimmed the lights and summoned the ghost to turn out the light and communicate. The next stop was out in front of Jailers Inn and by that time, even though there was one more stop, we had enough and cut out early.
