The rooms were ok, although the smell of glade was beyond intense, the lack of restrooms or water in the rooms was tolerable, the guest restrooms outback were a little gross and made my eyes burn, but I wasn't expecting much.. The owners however were super unprofessional. From double charging me, to making it my problem to fix, to complaining to me about everything in their life under the sun, to badmouthing hotels.com, other guests etc. etc. I just didn't need any of that on our stay there, and should have been a sign to go somewhere else, but I knuckled through it. The icing on the cake however, was being Attacked by her dog outside my room while using the guest restrooms... Yes, attacked. As in, I'm a fully grown man, dog owner/lover myself, and ended up having to drive to urgent care to stem the blood flowing from open wounds on my leg deep enough to stick your fingers in. Hey, stuff happens right...I'm a big boy. You try to put yourself in other people's shoes and do the right thing, but its also all about the people you're dealing with.. What was the owners response? Denial, even though it happened feet from their door, and I'm bleeding all over their floor. The dog evidently was also super aggressive to another person who was staying there that we spoke with, and then I found out it bit someone else. Did they comp any part of my stay? No. In fact, I was double charged. Have they made good on their promise to get me some shot records on the dog? Nope. Have they bothered to call me back a single time to check on me? No. It's a week and a half later folks, and I'm done trying. My wife and I have left messages until their machine was full, have left a message with their front desk / family member who runs the store, have facebook messaged them, and they haven't called me back once. Great customer service. An apology would have gone a long way here. Not only did I find out that she lied to me when she said the dog has never bitten anyone before, but they're completely ghosting me? The customer? I'm not a tourist, I'm in Eureka A LOT and so are lots of my snowmachine friends. I am pursuing this now that they've decided to do nothing, and I am recommending anyone who knows me boycott this place. Gunsight Mountain Lodge is TRASH. Stay at the Eureka Lodge or Sheep Mountain Lodge, or anywhere else but here. This place is owned by people who lack any semblance of character, or decency, and as much as I like to root for local business owners; they deserve to lose their business.

The hostess/owner of the business was on site and assisted greatly with some basic needs I forgot back at home, such as plates and utensils for the grill. They have two gas grills on site as well as a charcoal grill next to each cabin. They have a covered pavilion with an indoor firepit. Wood is for sale for $8. Each cabin is equipped with a coffee maker, a very small TV, and the lodge also offers complimentary K-cups and DVDs for rent. I cannot speak for the RV experience, but this is a great place to stay if you're on your way to or from Anchorage, or if you just want to get away for the weekend. Highly recommended.

Our travel agent from Homer booked us Matsukana Lodge because we needed a stop between the long drive from Valdez to Seward. I looked at the website and was impressed by the best site of any B&B we looked at for the whole state (after complimenting Brenda on her website she said her niece who is a Web designer helped her). When we pulled in right after the 100 mile marker we were greeted by the majestic lodge. We were welcomed in by all their dogs which were super friendly and shown to the Glacier Room. The pictures don't do the place justice, the room was huge and beautifully decorated and appointed. We were given complimentary reusable aluminum bottles as well as luggage tags. The private bathroom was huge with a whirlpool bath and a separate shower. It was easily nicer than a $300+ boutique hotel you would get back in California. Not only was our room spectacular, we were told there was a mini gym and pool table in the garage. As we were on vacation I chose not to partake in the gym but the pool table was in an awesome game room above the garage. I absolutely loved the nice touch of Monopoly cards painted into the walls. The tour didn't end their, we were also shown the hot tub with majestic views of the private lake and surrounding mountains. Additionally there was a pool house with a kayak you could use on the lake. Basically I will close by saying Matsukana Lodge is a mini 5-star resort in the middle of rural Alaska. It will blow your mind and make you disappointed at any other B&B you ever go to again. I don't think I'll ever be able to top my one night stay here and look forward to coming back again to stay longer! Pro tip: the 2 downstairs rooms have more privacy but we loved the layout of the Glacier Room. You can't go wrong with any room.

Quantity- HUGE ROOMS. Atmosphere- very cute. Also three dogs running around provides additional love. I also saw a moose in the backyard. Staff- The ladies are great. They are very warm and did anything they could to accommodate. For instance, I got in super late and they kept the light on for me to make everything easy for when I arrived. If you want to be outdoors in Alaska, but not camp, this is the place. Note: the lodge is located between mile marker 100 and 101.

Nestled in the trees, you turn off the road into a little slice of Eden. The lodge is a spectacular log cabin style building with a huge deck overlooking the valley below - one that houses a spectacular river flowing from the Matanuska glacier. The days included sleeping in very comfortable beds, first in a solo cabin and then in one of the rooms within one of the larger lodges which have a few room inside. The lodge was nicer, but we liked the solo cabin a bit better. The common area in the lodge was nicer however. Very potato/potahto. They have a dining area and a full service restaurant/bar in the main building and it's a delight! Many meals are buffet style, and they have single to order items available as well. The Cioppino one evening was spectacular! In addition to the comfortable beds, they have a massive hot tub available for adults to use, a huge deck off the back of the main building and a rec room type building with a large TV and a big table for meeting up. The small refrigerators are located in the rec building and the lodges. It's enough room for snacks and a night of leftovers. One evening we were all sitting outside of the deck chatting around 10:30/11:00 and because the sun never sets, we saw a lovely rainbow just before heading to bed. Staff are great, there are tons of hiking/walking trails in the area and the place is even graced a couple dogs who love to keep you company! We'll be here again! To the person reading this review, if you get Cassidy, you can be rest assured you will be super well taken care of. My little one is a talker and tends to get distracted a bit but Cassidy always had her eye on kiddo all the time! She is also so knowledgeable and was able to answer all our queries. Tour: Bus takes you to the point where you need to put on your spikes and helmet. You walk a little on the mud flats, the floating bridges before you land on ice. Once on the ice, it's a wonder trip!! We went through ups and downs of the ice, the bends, black ice, blue ice and we crossed several crevices. Cassidy was so fun helping us with some glacier water and ice pieces, my kids were stoked!! The trail we did is like a loop trail before we head back to the check in and gear hut. Facilities & equipments: Very well kept facility and very good and reliable equipments. They are quality ones! Wanted to do some sort of glacier activity in Alaska, and hiking Matanuska Glacier was highly…read moresuggested online, so we decided to try it out. Definitely recommend booking well in advance because most spots were filled up about two weeks out in June. We chose MICA Guides because of the small group size of 6 and the high reviews. We booked the 3.5 hour Ice Fall Trek for the 2:30pm slot on a Tuesday. The activity itself was about $146, and there was an additional $55 glacier access fee upon arrival. Our guides were Jack and Augie and there were 5 people in the group. We started with a small safety talk, and gear like helmets, jackets, shoes, and microspikes were provided. The guides were friendly, helped us put everything on, and they made us feel very safe throughout the hike. After that, there was a 15- 20 minute ride to the start of the glacier, which goes through an unpaved bumpy road. While walking on the glacier, Jack and Augie pointed out different features, like crevasses, and answered questions we had. It was interesting learning about glaciers, but I did feel like there could have been more explanation throughout the tour. On top of that, it was also a bit difficult hearing the guides sometimes because they would talk while we were walking in a single-file line and we were in the back, so I had to ask them to repeat themselves at times. The hike itself is only about 2-2.5 hours, and even with that, I felt like we mostly saw similar things throughout the activity, mainly different crevasses. For the price of the tour, it would have been nice to have professional photos included. Our guides took a few pictures on their phones, but most pictures we took ourselves and/or asked them to take for us. After the activity, we received a link to a photo album, but the pictures were not from our tour and I didn't think they were worth paying $15 for since they were just smartphone photos. Overall, it was a cool experience, and I'm glad I can check hiking on a glacier off my bucket list. The guides were kind and made us feel safe, but I was a bit underwhelmed, especially considering the price point. I'm glad I did it once, but personally I wouldn't consider it a must-do activity in Alaska. I would maybe recommend it if this is something you have always wanted to do and it fits well into your itinerary + budget.

We had a group of 4 adults plus a 14 month old. Booking was super easy, you just texted the phone number and pay on site. I see now that they have an online book system. I think when we did the tour last year it was $150/adult and $30/child. Make sure you program your GPS properly as the signal out there is not reliable. You drive down a drink road and check in at one building, then continue to drive to another building for the hike. There are bathrooms at both building for you to use. Our guide was super chill and easy to talk to. Just dress properly and they provide the gear needed. You are given helmets and crampons to walk in the snow/ice. Also, if you have a baby, they are SUPER child friendly!! We were a bit concerned as we did not bring our hiking backpack for our little guy as we already brought so much for the trip. We decided to just gamble with this hike. They had hiking backpacks galore for the little ones!!! There were so many!! And they were completely free to use during the hike also!! There were different sizes, different colors, different weights!! It would be our little guys first time in one so we did not know how he would like it. He started off hating being put in it... then when my husband stood up with him in it and started walking, he loved it!! It was a lifesaver for this hike!! At 14 months old, our little guy didn't understand how to walk in the ice and all, although they did have kids crampons, he was just too small to fit them at that time, but our guide tried to help us fit it on his show as much as he could. The hike was gorgeous!! Hiking on a glacier was definitely on my bucket list! Some people complain about having a guide and paying them and all, but me personally as someone not used to that type of environment; I felt much more safe on the hike with a guide. I do not know anything about this type of environment and the hidden dangers in the ice and snow! There were many highlights on our trip and this was definitely one of them. Would I do this again? I definitely would!! This activity was pretty affordable as far as Alaska activities are concerned. The hike was so beautiful!! The water is soooo blue. Also, now that my boy is getting older and with how much he loves the outdoors, this is something my husband and I will have to do again if we find ourselves out back in Alaska.
