Alapaca Connection is one of two stores by the same name, owned by the same couple. The other is in Boulder, Colorado on the Pearl Street Mall -- a few doors down from where I was last week, Ironic or coincidental, I dunno.
So -- here I am in Frigid but Gorgeous Homer, Alaska without a hat - freezing my ears off, and planning to go out on a boat on Thursday, where I KNOW it's going to be 20 degrees colder. And there on the boardwalk in front of me is the Alpaca Connection, with a plethora of sweaters, capes, jackets, blankets and -- HATS! Even at $25, I had to have one.
The hat I settled on actually was on sale for $18 and wasn't made in Peru of Alpaca wool, but rather came from Ecuador, which is still okay. It will keep me warm.
After leaving the store, I strolled into a souvenir shop a few doors away and found an acrylic knitted cap bearing the logo "HOMER, AK" for less than half the price. However it didn't have the panache of mine! read more
