I visited this restaurant in January 2016 and it is now called "Sophia" and not aloonak.
I had a soltani (which they call 'Makhsos' on the menu) with a small bottle of doogh from Abali. If I could I would give the doogh 5 stars without any hesitation. However the food was average and tasted very different from what I'm used to normaly eat. Also the portion is small for the price I paid. The Barg was juicy. But the koobideh was smaller compared to other Persian restaurants abroad. Also the taste was unusual. There was a clear taste of oregano. I'm not a huge fan of oregano, especially in Persian cuisine. It doesn't mix well. But I guess it's different strokes for different folks. Needless to say that traditionally, oregano is not included in the original recipe.
The plate was also badly presented: the rice was thrown over the koobideh almost as if they intended to hide its small size. There were also slices of a tasteless discolored tomato, two low budget olives, three small slices of cucumber and some iceberg salad. And a tablespoon of funky tasting yoghurt.. It reminded me of the Indian Raita mixed with mastmoosir... You can imagine the rest!
But the staff was very friendly. The doogh also made my day. But seriously, they should hire another chef. read more
