All this review really needs is the photo. If you zoom in you'll see a cockroach crawling on our room wall. I'm so repulsed I would never stay here again nor would I suggest anyone else stay here. Absolutely disgusting.

Centrally located in Harlem, close to 125th street metro station. Inside ok but did not get blown away. Extremely loud air conditioning. Missed old fashioned ironing board. Staff moderately interested in taking care of their guests.

Room Quality: 7/10 Amenities: 5/10 Service: 8/10 This is a solid 3-star hotel located in the heart of Harlem on one of the filthy but subway-accessible 125th street. It's clearly designed for short-term, no-frill business stays, so don't expect luxury, ambiance or anything beyond the essentials. There were many things I did NOT love: * Poor internet speed. Doubt you could have a video call or conference here. Couldn't even get through a single episode of Yellowjackets without buffering 10x. * Smells like an old man who drinks and smokes in the elevator and hallways * Our room has a terrible metal bed frame next to the metal AC. Those two pieces of metal next to each other = constantly stubbing my leg, ankle, and toes. Awful! * The gym has basic, essential equipment but is poorly maintained. And a few things I did appreciate: * Good service overall - The front desk attendants always greeted me (and one even gave me some free food). The cleaning staff were also very pleasant and diligent with their jobs. I also appreciated how the staff didn't charge extra for packages shipped to the hotel that arrived before I did. * The in-room steamer works like a dream! * The coffee and tea provided by the hotel in the lobby is free and not terrible.

Why 3 stars? Because why must the pillows be so small? --- --- --- I did not plan to stay in this hotel initially, but I ended up extending my stay in New York one night and this property made sense for me in terms of its location. I made the trek up from Midtown with my luggage and settled in for an impromptu second night in the city. When I walked into my room, I thought it smelled like maybe someone had smoked cigarettes in here at one point. Or maybe lit incense. Either way, it didn't bother me a ton, it was just a very obvious smell when I walked in. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were so bizarrely small. I don't really know anyone that would purposely choose pillows so tiny that simply rolling over might cause you to "fall off" of one. So I lined them all up in a row to create an army of pillows aka one normal-length pillow. I survived this first-world crisis. I sleep with a fan for white noise, so I did appreciate that the A/C unit in this room had a constant hum. Only, it sounded a bit more like construction noise than a fan humming. Not the end of the world, but a word for the maintenance crew of the Aloft Harlem: that A/C sounds like it's struggling to get through the night. The shower was nice, but the water pressure left a lot to be desired. All-in-all, this hotel was fine for my very brief stay, but it's not one I'd be dying to come back to for a second visit.

I've reviewed this hotel before. I travel for business and pleasure A LOT. I've stayed around 200 nights in Marriott hotels this year. I've stayed regularly at Aloft Harlem for the last (nearly) two years. As I've said, prices are reasonable for NYC. The Harlem neighborhood is bright and alive. Rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. Housekeeping is wonderful. Because I'm a regular, everyone here knows me. Recently a new employee started, who did not know me. I introduced myself, explained I was a regular, and went about my routine. Two weeks later, I return and she remembers my name and my face. The staff who have known me longer have clearly told her I prefer corner rooms and I like a certain kind of wine. She said, "they told me you like . . . (Insert multiple things here)." I am impressed by the new employee who went out of her way to remember me, as well as the longer established staff, who clearly updated her on my preferences. And again, for the record, the staff here have always been friendly, down to earth, and welcoming. One more time: I've been staying here nearly two years. And I come back again and again because they are fantastic people.

We came to this hotel for our daughter's graduation from Columbia University. Although it isn't that close to campus, it is the closest hotel to campus, and they were fully booked. Despite this, we consistently received efficient attentive service. Nasha at the the front desk was great and even remembered my name throughout our time there. We liked our stay so much that we extended it an extra night. I had read that the rooms facing the courtyard are quiet and that's what we requested and that's what we got! It was perfectly quiet.

The hotel is just a tiny walk from the 125th subway station, so we were able to get everywhere with ease!

This is a great hotel with quality staff - especially Paula and Vincent at the front desk! They made our trip so special!

Really great stay at Aloft Harlem on 10/29/22. We checked in at about 8:30pm and got a room on the 6th floor. The hotel was quaint but very clean and quiet. The reception at the front desk was pleasant and swift. Our room had a king size bed but was spacious enough for 3 people. We had a lovely stay with no qualms. There's also ample parking on the side of the hotel.

After a long day of travel from LA to NY with a sick 2 year old we arrived at @aloftHarlem. Due to filth we checked out a few hours after checking in for a 3 night stay. @aloftHarlem did NOTHING to accommodate my family.

For this Marriott the location is excellent if you are going to watch a show on Broadway. Very convenient for the play and also get a subway to anywhere else you have to go. The rooms are generally very nice and this hotel also has everything connected and controlled through a tablet which is very appealing to me. They also have a nice bar right in the hotel that is open till late. The only downside is the size. Now hotels in major cities like this like New York or Tokyo are small and pricey. Two things that can sort of negatively affect your opinion but considering they are all like that in the area, you have to compare accordingly. The only real downside for me is that the toilet is literally next to to the shower to the point that you could shower while using the toilet (I took a picture of my hand holding the shower handle on top of the toilet seat as a joke) and the sink is outside to wash your hands after using the restroom. I feel that they could have done a better design for this to avoid it. It didn't appeal to me and it's the only thing keeping me from giving this hotel 5 stars. I will probably stay here again when I go to watch another play.

The restaurant Jams on the first floor is also great, and nice to be able to have a delicious meal right at the hotel. Excellent food and coffee - we went for both breakfast and dinner here. We were celebrating a birthday, and the staff helped make the stay feel special. The front desk and door staff were consistently helpful and welcoming. Our rooms were excellent, with a great view, comfortable beds, and a lot of thoughtful sustainability features. I especially liked that all of the water in the hotel is filtered. You enter on the first floor, but the lobby is on the sixth floor. I was having flashbacks to Tokyo... There are four elevators, and when I checked in, the place was packed. Some event must have been going on because getting an elevator was an adventure (a sad one). It didn't help that everyone had to take an elevator just to reach the lobby, then another to get to their room. Fortunately, I was only on the ninth floor...so I got my steps in. The room itself was mostly ok. One thing I really didn't like was the air conditioning. It wouldn't cool below 68 degrees. I despise hotels that throttle the A/C. I'd get warm, the air would finally kick on, I'd be comfortable for about ten minutes...then the cycle would repeat all night. Another thing that caught me off guard was the ceiling. Maybe they're going for an industrial look, but it was basically unfinished concrete. Other than those complaints, everything else in the room was perfectly acceptable, and for a one night stay, it did the job.

Every interaction was warm, thoughtful, and genuinely welcoming. The themed rooms are such a fun touch (I loved seeing how each one was inspired by a different subject), but I also have to give a shout-out to the practical things. I took a few work video calls from my room on the 12th floor, and the Wi-Fi was ridiculously good - honestly stronger than the Wi-Fi in my own house when I'm sitting five feet from the modem.
