On our honeymoon, we had an overnight stay in Obernberg am Brenner. Our accomodations were through AirBnb, our host worked at Almi's and it just so happened to be the main restaurant in town. We decided to stop by for dinner and wifi and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel/lodge part looks very nice and typical for a ski-town in Austria. The restaurant itself looks out into the beautiful valley and mountains- definitely one of the best views I've ever had while dining!
There is no English menu, at least on the day we were there... Thankfully, our Airbnb host/server could translate the menu and I ordered the garlic soup. I love garlic, but I wasn't quite sure how a garlic soup would be. It was one of the highlights of the trip, if I'm being honest! It came out so warm and creamy with a dollop of butter on top that melted before my eyes. I swear it was liquid gold. I highly recommend the garlic soup, but my husband also tried the knödelsuppe. The knödels are like American dumplings, and he got one with cheese and one with bacon. The cheese knödel was better by far- it was fresh and the bacon wasn't. Our waiter told us to try the cheese in particular because it was fresh, so I'm glad we did. Both the knödelsuppe and garlic soup were great, but the garlic soup won my heart. I also had amaretto to drink, which was actually a nice finish to the dinner.
The atmosphere was a little foreign for us, waiters don't come around to check on you as much as in America. It was very relaxed and peaceful, though. The view was incredible and, with the food, it really proved to be a nice stop and chance to breathe for us during our fast paced trip. The rest of the city didn't seem to have much to offer other than a hike to a lake (also recommend), so if you happen to be in OaB, this is a great place to come for a bite to eat, a nice view, and some wifi! read more
