My room cost before taxes was $139.49. Let me tell ya' - that dog was spoiled even more so than usual! The Furry Friend fee was $29. This humble little motel is located on the famous Route 66 Boulevard in Tucumcari, NM. I checked in right at 4PM. Received my old-fashioned room key by an extremely nice receptionist and parked right in front of our room. My canine was so excited by the fresh green grassy area equipped with doggy clean-up bags, watering station, and double gates. Right next to that area was the firepit with a few chairs. They also had a bowl in the room for her, a wash cloth that I could have bought, and a couple of treats. They also left two cans of RC Cola and two Moon Pies for me. Some mid-century style touches that added the vibes to our ground floor premium king bed room: + very comfortable and clean plush bed + two chairs and a small table were just outside the room + well-lit parking lot at night + window shade that was able to block out above-stated lights (I like it pitch dark when I sleep) + retro bathroom details + flamingo print shower curtain + Magic 8 Ball + and my personal favorite: a vintage radio tuned to the motel's own private, short-range radio station. They played commercials from the era and lots of fun tunes throughout the night. It's along Route 66 and with the Centennial celebration coming up soon, it was wonderful to be able to see this motel in its updated glory. The Roadrunner Lodge is considered mid-century modern. The room was nicely decorated and created the feel of going back in time. Very well kept with some nice updates, while staying true to the theme of a bygone era. Tucumcari was once considered a little Las Vegas because of all of its neon signs. A lot of the businesses have kept some of those neon signs alive, which makes it beautiful to drive through at night. The owner of the Roadrunner Lodge has a passion for keeping those neon signs lit and active in his community. There is not a coffee maker in the room, but there is a nice coffee station with breakfast treats in the front office in the morning. This was a fun and pleasant stay and I would recommend this motel, especially for anyone with nostalgia of Route 66.

We were in no hurry to unload, and the room could stand a bit of airing out. The owner showed up at our door and informed us he wanted us to keep our door shut because of bugs. He reaches into the room, grabbed the door handle, and slammed the door shut. With us standing right there!! A timeline of events: -My 3 year old pees the bed overnight. Womp womp. -We have breakfast, put the little door hanger that says, "Please make up the room!" and leave to visit family. -We get back, find the door hanger gone, and the room in exactly the state it was in when we left, pee blankets in all -I call the front desk to let them know we needed new bedding. The older lady who checked me in (who was terse and impatient with the non-English speaking father whose son needed to translate for him) told me she'd let housekeeping know. -Some hours later, I go to the front desk to inquire about the bedding. I plan on just getting the stuff and doing it myself, clearly they're understaffed (GM - that's on you!). I wait in line, my daughter grabs a cookie. All is right with the world. -Upon telling Alaska the situation and that we'd been waiting hours for new bedding, which I was happy to put on myself, she told me well, it's already been done; she heard the Older Frustrated Woman talking with the head of housekeeping who said they had gone to ask the guest if they needed new sheets, and gave them some towels (maybe, but not to us!) I assured her, I had been in the room all afternoon. No housekeeping. -She then tells me to sit and wait (longer) while she helps the woman in line after me because (paraphrase), "If you don't, I won't remember LOL!" I ask if she can just write it down so I can go back to the room. She then huffs, tells me I'm just going to have to follow her while she gets me the sheets. -She storms off to get the bedding. I wait near my room. When she gets nearby, she hands me a garbage bag. Says I'm going to have to strip the bedding and put it in there and then she'll give me the new sheets - "It's policy!" GM, if that's your policy, it sucks. -I come back out and realize she didn't get me a mattress pad. Let me reiterate, my daughter peed in the bed. Need a new one of those. She lies, saying, "Oh, well... I wouldn't even begin to know where to get one..." I ask if she could call housekeeping. She pauses. "Ugh, Jesus Christ..." and storms off again. When she gets back to me, I tell her I'm sorry if she's having a bad day. -We realize she didn't give us blankets. My mother goes to ask for one. Alaska escalates almost immediately. A shouting match begins, and the lady calls the cops (who have NOTHING better to do) to come and trespass us. -We leave peacefully, apologizing to the cops for this woman wasting their time. Anyway. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I've been to this hotel over a dozen times to visit family and for work. I hate giving it a one star; the facilities are always clean, the breakfast is always good (that chile sauce they have is GREAT), and until this visit the staff have always been extremely friendly and welcoming. Just don't ask for a blanket.

Water for my bottle in the fitness room and a yummy breakfast. The woman working the breakfast made me laugh down and was so helpful. The bearded man at the front desk was so nice and hooked me up with a toothbrush and some silverware I needed and doggie waste bag when the outside thing was out of them. The beds are nice and firm with fresh smelling linens, and rooms were super clean. They had little recycling wastebaskets next to the regular wastebasket. I also have to mention how fast the wifi was uploading some work videos. Great place and saw lots of dogs! I would definitely stay here again.

After hours on I-40, we pulled in hoping for a clean room and a good night's sleep. Instead, we found one of the cutest little Route 66 motels we've stayed in. The orange and teal colors, the retro vibe, the beautifully crafted property...it all has so much personality. You can tell this isn't just another motel. It's a place that people genuinely care about. The woman at check-in was incredibly friendly, and opening the door to a room that was already perfectly cool, with oldies playing and Turner Classic Movies tuned on the TV, honestly made us grin. It felt like stepping into a different era in the best possible way. Then there are the practical things: the room was unbelievably clean, the beds were cozy, the sheets were soft, the A/C worked perfectly, and OH MY GOODNESS...the water pressure! After a long day on the road, that shower was glorious. Being able to back the car right up to our door was convenient, the property was peaceful and quiet all night, and we felt completely comfortable and safe. There are plenty of places to stay in Tucumcari. This is one we'll actually remember. We left saying, "Yep...next time we're staying here again.

A most patient, kind and friendly man, he cheerfully answered my 101 questions. If you find yourself in the area, looking for a clean, vintage motel room or just a quick, refreshing stop from the road, please stop in. Don't wonder about the lack of cars in the lot or absence of traffic on this stretch of Route 66. You'll get stellar service and great drinks regardless.
