But after sitting at the table for some time I tried to get a waiters attention so we could order drinks. The waiter even served the next table who's diners arrived after us. Each time I tried to get his attention he would look away smartly. Finally, after about 10 minutes I walked over to the cashier and asked if a waiter could be asked to come to our table. I received a strange response and decided at that moment to dine elsewhere. Upon departure the waiter came forward and I asked he if refused to serve us because we were American. His answer, in English was YES. This is a restaurant immediately across from the Holiday Inn where I would expect foreign travelers to be (me included). Foreigners stay away lest you be shamed by poor service providers.

5 stars for a Holiday Inn?! While I know this hotel chain to be a budget-friendly option stateside,…read morehere in Belo Horizonte, it's straight up boutique! Something about the live wall, with lush with plants growing out of it, the friendly bilingual receptionist who told me about her New York upbringing and the chic furniture and room decor within my standard lair, had me thoroughly impressed. Holiday Inn is kicking it up a notch and certainly winning in style points. But it's not just style, the wi-fi was fully functional and speedy from my room (I even had a nice desk to work from), and there's a fitness center and a pool. If my room was any indication, I'll bet both are just as new and freshly painted. I literally felt like I was the first person to sleep in the bed or use the shower. If a hotel room had a "new car" smell, this one sure would. I also loved how well located this hotel was. Nearby, there were tons of options where you could eat and drink, and the dog-friendly Patio mall within walking distance was a great perk. Next time I'm in BH, I won't hesitate to stay here again. In fact, I can't wait! PS: the room service menu looked legit!
