I went in and the staff was very helpful. No pressure, just asked if I'd like help. Once I did ask questions, I was given very friendly service and the guayaberas and other island shirts were of very good quality. I'm sorry I did not get the person's name that helped me, but he was probably in his 30s. They have other stuff their too (for example, I bought the "real" Puerto Rican flag with the sky blue background, it was an actual real flag with the rivets and quality stitching). Friendly staff, helpful in choosing my selection of guayaberas.. They sell men's clothing on one side and sister store next to it of women's clothing. The product of material was quality and the store was clean and well arranged. I would go back and I recommend this place for anyone looking for these specific shirts when you are in Old San Juan shopping. Puerto Rico. San Juan was a stop on the itenerary of my cruise ship. I wanted to purchase authentic guayaberas XXLG style shirts. Hard to find this size back home. I took the advise from comments made on this site to visit almacemes Fernandez shop located on San Francisco street, which was a short distance from the docks that the cruise ships dock at. Staff were very friendly and helpful.There were a nice small selection of different colors and styles. The only thing I was disappointed was that these shirts were made in China... I really wanted something that was made in PR. The sales lady assured me that the quality of these shirts were just as good. Since they had some XXLG Guyaberas...I ended up purchasing 5 shirts. The sales lady gave me a discount on the shirts and their sales card, telling me that they ship to the USA. read more

Let me break this down very simply: when I buy from a store, I want to know the owners will stand behind their products and provide great customer service. You'll get both of these in spades from Almanaces Fernandez. I bought a pair of Costa sunglasses from this store while on a business trip to San Juan. When I got home, they were a poor fit. So I contacted the store and they sent me a different style. It turns out the next pair wasn't right either. So the owners arranged to special order a pair from Costa and ship them to my house - all the way up to Portland, Maine. (They did this for me twice!!) So know this: Almanaces Fernandez (and Costa Azul Surf Shop) will go to the wall to earn a satisfied customer. Bueno!! read more

Made two stops here on my last trip to San Juan, and make it here every time I'm in town, a tradition my son is picking up on (he likes to buy the local soccer jersey when it changes and this time picked up a PR World Baseball Classic cap). Very friendly staff, owner. Beautiful stuff, and very reasonable for a tourist area, especially when it comes to guyaberas, pants, jackets. Recommended if you're looking for guyaberas, linen or light-colored suit separates, huaraches, sneakers. I really do enjoy dropping in, especially if I've just walked out of Cafeteria Mallorca and we're strolling down the Calle. It is a special place in a special part of town and worth a trip. Note: They're friendly guys and it's a clean shop... you probably won't be taking home any authentic homespun stuff made on the island, but rather a nice place to dress the part if you're looking for loungewear or want to embrace your inner Cheo Feliciano etc. read more

The two guys at this store were really nice and helpful! When you walked in, both of the guys greeted you and asked if their was anything in particular you wanted. They also talked sports with me, which is a plus. Some of the people that owned other stores in the area were rude or were out to make a quick buck. These two individuals were genuine and treated us as if we were their family. They also recommended us a restaurant called Café Manolín, which is a family restaurant that serves AMAZING food!
