The Alma is what I would call a "traditional" back street sort of pub, circa 1960's/70's.
The left hand side of the pub has a dart board, where the locals not only play darts, but also practice and try to improve their mathematical abilities. There are also the traditional "knock knock" tables in this side of the pub - tables that are "crafted" to host domino boards; these adorn the walls, as if some prized trophies.
The right hand side of the pub could be seen as the "lounge", basic but clean and tidy - which pretty much describes the pub.
I sampled a pint of Theakstons Mild, which was the only real ale they were selling; it was ok, nothing special, but nothing to moan about either.
Maybe the locals of Queen Street and surrounding streets see The Alma as their "Rovers Return?" - It sort of had that feeling to it, a bit like being caught in a time warp. read more
