They have a very good selection of most typical Asian groceries, without the crowds and even better prices. The service is what has constantly kept me coming back. True, Fairtown is not as large or as extensive as some of the mega super markets, but the people working there will always do their best to help you find something, be it a rare food item or out of stock medicine. They also have a mean selection of various Chinese stlye noodles. This is where I go to get my Yee Fu noodle fix, where a block that is good enough to feed 2 people, and costs only $1.99. I've been able to find lots of random items for cheaper than most of the nearby grocery stores which is enough to get people coming back often.

The temptation was there to have a closer look at this odd trifecta, but it was not to be on this day. Today I walked into Nagilah Market to stroll the aisles and see what was offered behind the large glass paynes of the stores front which looked like a hybrid of Odd Lot meets Wholesale Liquidators with the window dressing of someone on a bit too much peyote. The inside of the store was disheveled and if you could make out any methodology of rows, your wiser than mouse than I as it felt like some experimental maze for humans. Items everywhere, pricing labels were few and far between and no logic to placement of anything. But after getting my bearings I began to fill my basket with many extraordinarily well priced Middle Eastern products. Cans of sardines, grape leaves, teas, spices, oils and more. Upon check out I was asked by the man behind the counter what were my intentions with a particular spice I selected. The other four men who were at the counter, seemingly all buddy buddy with the owner stopped talking to listen to my response. "Purely experimental" I stated as was the case. "Oh" he stated, "I thought you were a chef". Whatever the answer, he proceeded to take the plastic container from me, walk to a large area of loose spices and grounded me up a fresh batch. How cool is that? A full basket of cooking goodies ran me a Jackson and I once again have the coolest contents in my fridge of all my cooking buddies, for now.

The samsa are massive, flaky, and come stuffed with pumpkin, beef, lamb, or chicken. The manti and bilyash are also fantastic. You really can't go wrong with any of the prepared foods. They also carry a wide variety of Central Asian and Eastern European groceries, including seasonings, teas, sweets, pickled vegetables, honey, and more. The bread selection is another highlight, with fresh Uzbek non or lepeshka. The space itself is pretty small and cramped, so it feels more like a quick "grab what you need and go" kind of store rather than a place to casually browse. A line of only a few people can stretch to the back, but the cashiers do a great job keeping things moving. Tashkent also recently opened a location in Manhattan that I checked out, and it's a larger space with even more selection.

In coolers, there are multiple types of tofu, raw noodles, fish balls, etc. The American aisle (cereal, bread, cookies, jam... just carbs + preservatives) is just there for kicks. - $1 bags of older produce outside at the end of the day. Often you can find a good deal. - They fixed the excruciating urine smell in the back of the supermarket. And hopefully smacked all the urinators across the face with the same rag they used to clean it up. The bad: - $10 credit card minimum is a huge deterrent. - You always smell faintly like fish after you visit here. Your clothes, your hair. It was all caught on video, but I cannot find it anymore, I can only find the article that was written up. Two (2) guys walked in & announced "THIS IS A ROBBERY", then proceeded to put two (2) customers on the floor & told them not to move. The guy with the gun walked up to the guy behind the counter (Danny / no longer works there) & put a gun to his head. Danny didn't like the idea & pushed the gun to the side away from his face. The robber wasn't too smart because he did it again. This time Danny grabbed the gun & started to fight with him. He hit Danny in the face & his accomplice broke a bottle over Danny's face & then it was a few for all. All the customers both standing & laying down started to pound the gunman & they took away his gun but not before he could fire it into the wall during the struggle. All in all, given their size they really do carry the essentials that you might need at reasonable prices. I think they're a great neighborhood grocery and people should know about them so here we are. I was having some family members over for dinner in honor of my cousin's last day in the city and I needed olive oil, italian bread, and stuffing. This place had all three plus I noticed they carried Boar's head deli meat, different types of soups and cereals, dinner meats like chicken and pork chops, and cleaning supplies plus *some* fresh produce. If you live in the area this should be your go-to place if you need a little something to make yourself dinner and can't be bothered to go out to the main drag by Broadway. Give the place a tray! It worked really well for my needs.
