I had a very bad experience getting my hair highlighted. It took way too long and they blamed me saying it's because I have a lot of hair - which I don't . No one has a problem. It's shoulder length and medium thickness. I'm thinking about trying them again- hoping they'll do something for me since my time was wasted / almost 4 hours and not done: I had to blow dry my own hair while I was there: highlights weren't even touching the root / told me that it's normal. Which it's not. But we'll see. May try someone else and I'll update my review accordingly. read more

This is long overdue, but I would be remiss if I didn't sing the praises of this salon, and Stephanie in particular. As someone with fine curly hair, it is a rare find to connect with a stylist that is skilled enough to give a cut that looks equally great with a wash and shake or a blow dry. I've been to top NYC salons like Oribe and Bumble and Bumble so the benchmark is pretty high. Since I prefer to support local businesses I've spent the last few years searching for a good stylist in the Hudson Valley. I've experienced mediocrity to the worst cut ever. One person gave a good cut but the color was awful, and vice versa. Stephanie excels at both cut and color. The previous stylist I saw was a bit highlight happy and created a chunky look. It was okay for the summer, but far from optimal. I came to Stephanie for a crown touch up and she immediately suggested we do some lowlights as well. Let me say that Stephanie did the best job of giving me natural looking highlights that blend beautifully with my grays. She really is a gifted stylist and I cannot recommend her highly enough. I've been going to Jen for years, and she always does a terrific job. I went gray in my late 20s-early 30s and had tried numerous stylists/colorists but always felt the color looked fake, and damaged my hair. The Aveda products used at Allure must be different because my hair always ends up looking healthier after it's colored! Jen has seen me through a number of styles, is always patient and really listens. When I decided to grow out the gray, she encouraged me and made the most of it with cuts that accented the pretty silver highlights. And when I decided to go back to brunette after a few years, she restored the previous color, no problem. Yes, it's a little pricey for the Hudson Valley but I'd never go anywhere else. read more

Jenn was incredible- she managed to fix my severely neglected pandemic hair and transform it into the perfectly colored red I was hoping for. My cut looks great and I love how much gentler Aveda's colors are on my hair. I asked for someone who cuts curly hair. Allure recommended Kayla. I generally don't post negative reviews, but she gave me one of the worst cuts I've ever gotten. Cut off curls (I asked for only a trim), left me with a ragged, unattractive (ok, ugly) head of hair. It's been about 6 weeks and it still hasn't grown in enough to hide the bad cut. I wrote an angry, private message to Kayla but she didn't respond in any way. Definitely won't ever use her again. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. I am a guy and went in to get my haircut and the "stylist" named `1 Kayla was assigned to me. This was my first vist with this salon. I went in and described in detail what I wanted and she proceeded to do everything I specifically told her not to do. She did not wash or even wet my hair and just started cutting without even thinking about what I asked. She butchered my hair, and it is without a doubt the WORST haircut I have ever received in 40 years. I asked her how long she had been cutting hair and she said 18 years, it seemed like 18 hours. I am LIVID. I should not have even paid for it but I did, b/c unlike Kayla I actually care about others. I have NOTHING but nice things to say about Guiliana (jules) the stylist who did my hair, the brides hair and our friends hair (which we thought would be complicated because it is normally quite curly) Jules was a pro and kept reassuring us that we had enough time (she also knew her stuff as far as reality tv programming etc but in short a pleasure to be around) I'm sorry to say I don't know the name of the lady who did the hair of 4 other people in our group but she did a good job-in one case took direction very well and was even willing to fix some stuff. I was quite happy with my wavy curls she did using a combination of flat iron (who knew?) and blowing out-we all received a lot of compliments on our hair. I do not have nice things to say about the salon owner who was openly disappointed verging on unprofessional when my friend did not want media to interview her about how she felt getting married on the same day as Chelsea Clinton. Lady we don't know Chelsea and we wish her the best but we made this appointment for my friends special day months ago we would have been your clients even if chelsea had gotten married in martha's vineyard. keep that in mind. read more

I've been using Allure since they were on Garden Street and love their new big, beautiful studio. Of course I let my hair become a mess and then rush to Allure if I have to go to the city for a meeting or video taping the next day. Allure has a deep bench of excellent stylists and I have always been able to get an excellent cut and style to feel confident for the city. The only downside is the beautiful display of jewelry and Aveda products which are very tempting to buy. Very, very lucky to have Allure in Rhinebeck. read more

I went into the salon for the first time today and asked how much it would cost for one highlight. I had a few strands of hair that were too warm of a tone. The woman at the register told me $5 which I paid and I gave the stylist a $5 tip. She dried the few strands to make sure the color matched the rest of my highlights. When I was leaving the owner told me I owed $25 dollars, which I said was not what I was told. I would have never paid $25 plus a $5 tip for one highlight. She told me to leave and never come back. She took me by the arm and pushed me out the door while she said if I didn't leave she would call the police. The stylist who did the highlight was lovely and others who were helping her could not have been nicer. I believe they do beautiful hair color and styles there but I wanted to share this horrible treatment with you if you are considering this salon. read more

I have been going to Allure for about five years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The amount of compliments I get on my hair daily is amazing. I started going when they were at their old location but their new salon right in the center of Rhinebeck is just spectacular. They offer a wide variety of services so it is a one stop hair and spa shop for me. I've gotten everything done from waxing, to hair cut/ color/ style, manicure and pedicure and now awesome spa treatment by Valerie! The salon has a fabulous atmosphere, everyone is friendly and just fun to be around, they make me feel at home! I appreciate how they are open and honest with me on what will look right on me and what they think will be best. I trust their judgment completely! I would say that I am one of the most difficult customers they have, and they are nothing but accommodating. I have gone from Black to Blond to Red, getting color blocking, color corrections, bleaching out, and drastically changing the color and color lines to my hair which most salons wouldn't even attempt to do. They hold consultations with me, let me know what can and can't be done and work with me even if it takes a few visits to get to where I want with my hair. After we reach the perfect color the stylists help me maintain the color and keep my hair healthy with suggesting the right Aveda Products for me. They are true specialists and professionals in the Aveda Product and Color Line and always know exactly what to do. In addition to sending all of my friends and family to Allure, I send all of my Bridal Clients to get their hair and makeup for their special day, and they always send me the biggest thanks. I got my hair cut and colored at Allure salon the day before i graduated from the Culinary Institute Of America. My cut was perfect and the girl did a great job HOWEVER after i left and went to my last night of class as a front of house server at American Bounty, and my professor and fellow classmates informed me that my hair was BLUE in the right light and even had a BLUE ting in dim light. I have class from 2:30 to 11:00 pm and had no time to remedy the situation before my graduation at 8 am this morning. I walked in my graduation with blue hair and a positive attitude then went back to Rhinebeck to have lunch and speak to the salon about my problem. I was overwhelmed by ladies touching my hair and insisting that they couldn't see the blue. Then they said that there was in fact a blue ting and that it would fade after i wash multiple times. After i said that i preferred that they not touch my hair anymore and i would rather just get my money for the color back I was told that i was a fraud that "just wanted a free hair do" that "the blue is better then my BOZO orange i had before" and that i was a "fraud". First off I can afford to get my hair done and am more then happy to pay for good work BUT WHEN YOU TURN MY HAIR BLUE IM NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY! insulting me!!! REALLY I would have gotten my hair done in Long Beach, where I am from, if the salon i usually go to wasn't destroyed by hurricane sandy. I WAS LIVID! NEVER GET YOUR HAIR DONE AT ALLURE! I've been using Allure for five years but left today because I just can't tolerate the mismanagement anymore. The veteran stylists, Jules, Leah, are brilliant and should be treated as such. Instead their hours are reduced to one day per week, making scheduling difficult. Their staff can't manage their booking system and I travel 45 minutes to be told "we double booked. Choose a junior stylist." Like another reviewer, I've had problems with the owner and asked her to stop screaming at her staff in front of me. Adiós Allure. While I admit that in the past I had been an infrequent client, I have actually always been attended to by the same tall well tattooed stylist. During my previous visits she never seemed particularly interested in simply cutting my hair, however during my most recent visit this stylist seemed to have gone out of her way to actively butcher my hair. As a woman of a certain age it's probably not appropriate to give me the same apparently trendy cut that you would give to a 20 year old, but that's exactly what she did. When I walked out of the shop I was left with a hairstyle that was worse than when I walked in, and the stylist spent so little time trying to define the natural wave in my hair that upon departure I needed to resume pulling out my barrettes and pinning my hair back - a move I had hoped a new haircut would to some extent eliminate. Three days later I need to make an appointment with a different stylist (fortunately at a salon just across the street) and have this careless haircut tidied up. While I know that it is convenient to blame Covid for every challenging event in our lives these days, the reality is that it was total incompetence and not Covid which was at fault for what has been notorious run of not stellar and now a downright awful haircut....which will never be repeated! read more

I went in a week ago to book a massage with two gift certificates family bought me for Christmas. When I booked the appointment I explained that I would be paying with gift certificates to make sure there would be no problem, and even asked if they needed to see them...receptionist said no. After my massage I went to pay with my gift certificates. The receptionist called the owner because she did not know how to process the gift certificates. The owner said I could only use one at a time. I explained that I had said I would be paying with the gift certificates and there was no problem before the service. In mid-sentence, the owner hung up on me! The receptionist and massage therapist were very apologetic...but I will not pay money to support someone in a service industry so terrible with providing service. Newsflash Allure owner....people talk! And write! And gift certificates are NOT coupons! LImiting them to one per transaction is sketchy, but making the terms clear after-the-fact and hanging up on unhappy but polite customers is a bad business plan! Do yourself a favor and go to a place where they take care of you. It's supposed to be relaxing. read more

I had my hair done here for my wedding last October. They had just moved to their new location and it was beautiful. The stylists also let us drink champagne while we had our hair and makeup done, a wedding day bonus. I loved the way I looked - my stylist appreciated that I wanted to look natural and did a great job with my hair and makeup. In fact, one of my bridesmaids said it was her "favorite wedding hair ever." I am giving this a 4 instead of a 5 star review only because it was a bit disorganized. All of my bridesmaids who had appointments at specific times had them shifted when they arrived, which made it challenging for running out to buy last-minute things. It also took longer than our allotted time, and we had to rush back and dress very quickly. Nevertheless, I love how I looked, and would definitely recommend this studio. read more

Jules did my hair and make up for my wedding and I was thrilled with how it came out. My hair is very fine, and in my opinion hard to work with or get much body out of, so I expected something nice but modest. Jules absolutely blew me away with what she was able to do with my hair. I showed her some pictures and she came up with a composite hairdo that was nothing short of stunning. Her friendliness and good humor also kept me calm on the morning of my wedding. She also did the hair of several members of the bridal party, and they all loved their hair. I'm afraid I cannot remember the name of the woman who did my mom's hair and the other bridesmaids' hair, but she did a great job also. Also, they use Aveda products, which don't leave your hair feeling gross and helmet-like when it's done - a major plus for me. I definitely recommend Allure for wedding parties! read more

I went here last year before moving out of state, and got a wonderful haircut as well as highlights from Kristen. She was very patient with me since I have never gotten highlights before, and I did not want them to look unnatural. She really took her time, considering how the sun might naturally highlight someone's hair, and afterward I was more than impressed by her technique and I LOVED the way my hair looked. The cut she gave me was perfect for my type of hair--I have thick wavy/curly hair and, like an true hair artist, she took the way my hair grows into consideration while trimming it. When she was done, I had no unwanted frizz--I looked great! I could tell it was important to Kristen that I not only look great, but feel great too. You can tell that she really loves the work she does. While I was there she also waxed my eyebrows, which I was also very nervous about since I usually pluck them myself. I have thick eyebrows and I don't want them to be waxed too thin--it would make my face look weird. But, she shaped them perfectly. Kayla cut and colored my hair several times by now. EVERY TIME I am just thrilled with the results. I am 46 and honestly this is the first stylist that seems to have the knowledge, the skill and the right attitude. VERY professional. As far as the salon - very clean, pleasant environment. My previous experiences at numerous other places always turned sour, mostly because the stylist would not listen. Everybody's hair is different and I hate being given a cut with a mountain of styling that I can't follow at home! I started coming here about a year ago and have been wowed since. I love the ambience, the staff is terrific from the front desk which cheerfully makes appointments to almost everyone who does hair--my usual Kayla who is fab, Jules, Jen and Nancy; I'm happy when any color or style my hair. I've rarely not been taken on time. And the prices are very fair. This is my weekly stop to look perked up. The funny thing is most people in town I know come here so it's also the local gathering spot of sorts, besides Bread Alone coffee and bread store below! Think Steel Magnolias up North. The only suggestion I have is to offer better coffee and tea, have better cookies periodically or other snacks, or even offer wine at times in the late afternoon! I LOVE THIS PLACE. read more

I have had my hair done there for a few years. Jules is my girl, though I have had the owner, Jenn, and a few others who colored/cut/styled my hair when I had an emergency and Jules could not do it. I have always been pleased. The color has been great...and I am a redhead and and artist and am very critical about getting the red right. However...I was also there when Alayna came in with a young man (boyfriend?) making a big fuss over her blue hair. (didn't look blue to me, but I wasn't getting near that situation) It got so bad that the police had to be called due to the harassment and phone that were coming in from her mother after she left. . It was crazy..... and disruptive for sure. The salon is beautiful, the service professional, I trust my hair to only them. I don't know if this review will be put in , but I have been going there for a LONG time, and it has always been wonderful getting pampered there...and I look forward to trying a facial this winter. read more
