It offends me, the lack of care or follow through. I've been with allstate in 3 different states. Hell, my mother even works for an agency in another state. Thesis office is inept, unempathetic, and simply does not listen. My coverage had holes in it, my entire policy is basically useless due to the agency. When you can't make a simple call a priority due to the "extra" work that was left over from the long weekend, well, you simply don't care. Get out of customer service. You give it a bad name. Your entire office. Time to jump offices. Thanks for nothing Timothy Carter; have some tact and hire people that execute the job you pay them for. Because I won't be paying your office my premium again. On the other hand the claims and roadside offices are impeccable. They are the only reason to have allstate. I've been on auto-pilot since since 2006 and to my detriment never really paid attention to the details of this particular office's business practices, because I really never found a reason to. As others have pointed out Tim, Allstate Agent, is a nice guy and has always been in the office if I popped in and needed to update my credit card or info. But I soon found out that aside from processing a payment, this place is useless and clueless. In 5/2012, I filed a claim on my auto policy amounting to around $3,000.00. When my policy renewed 6 months later I was shocked to see that my premium had more than doubled!!! I met with Tim so that he could explain to me why a spotless driving record and a one-time claim justified more than doubling my premium. My auto policy premium payment went from $130/month to $270! Dumb-founded he shrugged while staring at the computer and stated that it seemed excessive but there was nothing he could offer other than an increase in my deductible. I left the meeting frustrated and vowing to find another auto insurance carrier. The craziness of the holidays unfortunately placed my insurance-shopping on the back burner, but my dealings with this office over the past week put Tim and his staff back on my radar. I've had my credit card stolen twice in the last month, so that alone has sent my auto-pays into a tailspin. From not updating all of my policies with the new numbers, staff giving me conflicting information on additional premium increases, failing to update my auto policy resulting in an additional increase in my premium to one hand no knowing what the other is doing - this office is a complete mess! That has all happened within a one-month period! The one-star is actually well deserved for being so dysfunctional that it actually forced my hand to call Geico insurance and within less than 10 minutes I had new insurance policies with the even better coverage and I cut the cost of my auto policy by 50%! This place is the worst. Let me explain the nature of my relationship with this branch: each month, my payment was due. I would call in every month and ask to be billed the amount due. I would be billed accordingly. So how did my policy twice end up in cancellation status (without any warning from my friendly allstate agents, of course)? The first time, I had apparently not payed $70 or something which was due. I don't have time to fret over the details of my insurance, so I just called and asked to be billed whatever I owed every month. How was it my fault that they didn't bill me the full amount due? The second time, I guess I payed 10 days late. Now that's fine if you have a policy that 10 days late = cancellation status, but for god's sake you should warn people. If you don't, it looks like you are trying to trick me into defaulting on payment so you aren't liable in the event something goes wrong. In addition to this, they refunded my entire policy without telling me that they were going to do it. When I went to pay my next bill I was billed for the entire policy in addition to the next month's payment and I was financially screwed because I never realized that they had refunded the entire payment. In short, SEVERE communication issues here. I've been an allstate customer for four years, but the brilliant minds at Timothy Carter's office have inspired me to find a better-managed insurance provider. read more

Totally inept, completely unresponsive, rental policies were cancelled without my knowledge, and I just received a collections notice for an auto policy I had thought I cancelled. I have been with Allstate for many years and recently transferred my out of state auto policies to California ones when I moved here. I made the mistake of selecting Timothy Carter for this He and his agency provide an unacceptably poor level of service. There is little follow through, they don't get the answers they promise to get and don't seem to know much about the insurance products they sell. You know that insurance ad for Gieco that talks about how great they are because they have 97% satisfied customers? That stat actually seems pretty poor to me, because I can't believe that more than 3% of their customers have a claim in a given year, and you gotta think that's where the 3% comes from. Imagine a rephrasing - "all our customers satisfied except those who have a claim!" You see my point. This office has more like 50% approval, and I am sad to add my voice to the one-star crowd because Tim Carter seems a good enough guy. The problem is his company was completely underhanded and unethical in their dealings with me. This is the story: I tried to cancel a life insurance policy and went to the office of my agent, Tim Carter in Berkeley, to expedite this and so they couldn't (I thought) delay me into oblivion at my escalated and unreasonable renewal rate. I had this policy for 10 years, but when it expired, they upped the rate 400%! Fine, that was their right, so I had to shop for new coverage which took months, but then was very anxious to actually cancel and get it done. I wrote out a letter of cancelation as he told me to do, signed it and submitted it in person, and had him confirm by email he received it. About a month later they said they needed a form from me, which I then promptly filled out. Many more weeks passed, and I heard nothing. I once again contacted the agent, who told me they needed my name and my title on their form. He told me repeatedly throughout these delays that the original cancelation date would be honored and he would make sure of that. Even with all of this documentation, and despite the agent's assurances he would not let me get screwed on this, the national office in Northbrook, denied my request to honor the original date. I once before had Allstate for Auto insurance, and that was not very satisfactory, but nothing as bad as this outride shady practice I experienced. I would go to this insurance company literally if they were the only company left and I had to have coverage for legal reasons - based on my experience with them they seem about one cut above that corrupt company in that Matt Damon movie The Rainmaker, Great Benefit Life Insurance, where they are told "deny all claims" as their standard practice to fleece their insured clients out of ever being paid. Totally and completely unethical in my experience with them, never will we do business again. Can't imagine how they would act if I had a claim I was owed on! Well, in truth I can - I expect I wouldn't get a good hand up as they advertise, but probably just a finger, as I've gotten from them so far. This agent's a nice guy, but Allstate sucks, and he makes promises he doesn't seem to be empowered to keep. read more

I've been with Allstate for many years and switched to Tim because of one simple fact: he answers the phone. I don't ever plan on going to the office since I deal with everything either by email or by phone. The rates are great and customer service has always been good. I never did receive a call back about an earthquake insurance question I had, but I decided not to purchase that anyway. read more

I was going to get my car insured with this agency, but ended up going with another agency. In the process of getting a quote from them, signing the application papers and up until the down payment, there were several misunderstandings due to bad communication on the part of the agency. When I was trying to clear up the misunderstandings in order to get things finalized, I guess Timothy Carter got impatient and he became rude and disrespectful in his written communication and I immediately went to another agency due to the terrible customer service. read more
